It is with great sadness that we announce that Hal passed away on Saturday, June 28, 2008. Hal was predeceased by his much loved son David Edwin and by his parents Leah and Saul ROSENTHAL. He will be sorely missed by his loving wife Priscilla PLATT, his brother Don (Carolyn), niece Julie (Greg), nephews Gary (Chantal) and Ken (Leslie), their children and his life long friend Audrey. Suddenly at Grey Bruce Health Services, Owen Sound on Thursday, February 7, 2008. Gloria HOGAN (née PETERSON) of Owen Sound at the age of 46 years. Beloved wife of Jeff HOGAN. Dear mother of Nicholas HOGAN, Larissa HOGAN and Corey WOOD and Lundi HOGAN all of Owen Sound. Daughter of Arnold PETERSON of New Brunswick and the late Brenda PETERSON. Granddaughter of Hazel KERR of New Brunswick. Also survived by three sisters Cyndi PETERSON and Laurie HERSEY both of New Brunswick and Wendy PETERSON and Dave BLACKWOOD of Scarborough. HERSOM, Doctor Naomi
Naomi went peacefully into the presence of her Lord on Friday, June 27th leaving behind to lovingly remember her, her brother Harvey (Jean), niece Margaret MERCER (Les), nephew Douglas HERSOM (Kelly), grandnieces and nephews, Timothy, Eric, Matthew, Brianna and Caeley, cousins, dear friend, Shirley MERCER and many special Friends. Naomi was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on February 4, 1927, only daughter of the late Frederick and Anna HERSOM. She graduated in Arts and Education from the University of Manitoba and began her teaching and administrative career with the Winnipeg School Division. She received her PhD (educ) at the University of Alberta in 1969. Honorary degrees from no less than seven Universities recognized the diverse contributions she made to education in Canada, particularly women's issues. She mentored many young women paving the way for them to advance in their chosen fields. She was assistant Dean of Education at University of British Columbia, Dean of Education at University of Saskatchewan and President of Mount St. Vincent University in Halifax. Naomi's first love and interest was working with Intervarsity Christian Fellowship and International Fellowship of Evangelical Students, contributing both as a staff member and board member. She also served on the boards of Regent College and Carey Theological College. She was always active in her local church wherever she resided, currently serving First Baptist Church, Victoria as moderator. She lived daily the words of Micah 6: 8 'to act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with her God.' A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 8th, 2: 00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 877 North Park Street, Victoria, British Columbia. Officiating will be Rev. Dr, Axel Schoeber and Rev. Dr, Roy Bell. Those wishing to make a contribution in her memory may do so to British Columbia Cancer Society, Victoria Hospice, Inter Varsity Christian Fellowship, First Baptist Church, or to the charity of your choice.

LEDDY, Rita Theresa
On June 18th Rita passed from this life after a brave and graceful two and a half year struggle with cancer. She died at Saint Michael's Hospital in Toronto, the place where she had trained as a nurse, worked as a nursing supervisor and where she met her husband, Dr. John Edward LEDDY. Soon after their marriage in 1940 Rita and Jack each offered their medical services in the war effort in Europe. Rita worked in England as part of the British Civil Nursing Services. After the war they settled in Saskatoon and raised their three children: Mary Jo, Jennifer and Michael (Eileen). In Saskatoon, Rita became the elegant hostess of many parties and a hard-working member of several civic organizations. She was particularly committed to the Catholic Women's League and the Saint Paul's Hospital Auxiliary. After the death of her husband in 1991, Rita returned to Toronto where she had 'troops of Friends' and continued her many interests while finding new ways of ser ving the community, especially with Meals on Wheels and the Ecumenical Day of Prayer. She was a true renaissance woman and was known as something of an expert on the Bloomsbury Group. She was always open to new adventures. For many, she became a luminous example of how to age gracefully with wit and humour. Rita is survived by her three children and four grandchildren: Shannon, Connor, Brendan and James LEDDY. She will be greatly missed by her cousins Kitty HIGGINS and Mary Agnes McINTYRE as well as by her Friends of all ages and backgrounds. Rita was predeceased by her father Jeremiah WILKINSON, her mother Mary Jane CARR, her step-father François Regis HERVIEUX, her sister and four brothers and her uncle, Rev. Henry CARR, CSB, whom she spoke of with great affection as a 'best friend.' Rita had a great devotion to Blessed John Henry Newman, and the prayer below, composed by him, was one she knew by heart.
May He support us all the day long till the shades lengthen and the evening comes and the busy world is hushed and the fever of life is over and our work is done. Then, in His mercy, may he give us a safe lodging and a holy rest and peace at the last.
The family is grateful to the doctors and nurses at the Princess Margaret, Saint_Joseph's and Saint Michael's hospitals who accompanied and served her these last 2½ years. Visitation at Rosar-Morrison Funeral Home, 467 Sherbourne St at Wellesley, on Sunday, June 22 between 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. (prayers and memories at 8: 00 p.m.). Her funeral Mass of the Resurrection will take place at St. Basil's Roman Catholic Church (Bay and Saint_Joseph Streets) at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 23. Age 79, of London passed away suddenly on Thursday, February 14, 2008. He was born in Velddrel, The Netherlands on May 5, 1928 and was the son of the late Henricus and Allgonda (VANHEEL) VAN HERWYNEN. Harry had been employed with the University of Western Ontario for many years, prior to his retirement. He was an avid gardener and received immense satisfaction in growing vegetables and flowers in his garden. Beloved husband of Bernice Georgina (WELLS) VAN HERWYNEN. Also survived by a brother Tony (Coby) VAN HERWYNEN of Hampton, Ontario, two sisters and two brothers in Holland, brothers-in-law William SOMARS of Saint Marys, Elmer DENCH and Richard (June) WELLS all of Stratford and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Relatives and Friends may call at the Heinbuck Funeral Home, 156 Albert Street, Stratford on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at 1 p.m. Father Dominic BORG of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish in London will officiate. Sister Agnes died peacefully at Saint_Joseph's Convent, Toronto, on Tuesday, January 1, 2008 after a short illness. She is the daughter of the late Peter HERZOG and Agnes KRUEGER. Her sisters Cecilia EMSLIE, Mary SCHROFFEL, Eleanora RUNGE, Martha McCORMICK and Kate EMSLIE predeceased her as well as her brothers Bernard and Frederick. She is survived by many nieces and nephews and many Friends across the country, all of whom loved her dearly. Throughout her long life, Sister Agnes served in the ministry of education and catechetics.
Her wake will be at Saint_Joseph's Convent, 3377 Bayview Avenue, Willowdale, from 3 p.m. on Thursday, January 3rd, with a prayer vigil at 7: 30 p.m. Mass of Christian burial is on Friday, January 4th, at 10: 30 a.m. followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.
