KEHOE,

Patrick
It is with great sadness the family of Michael Patrick
KEHOE
announces his passing, Thursday May 15, 2008 at the Red Lake
Hospital after a brief illness (brain tumour). Michael was born
and raised in Chatham, Ontario. At the young age of 19 he joined
the Ontario Provincial Police and was first posted to Petrolia,
Ontario In January 1974. Several years after arriving in Petrolia
Mike met Kimberly
TROMBLEY and they were married in Sarnia in
October of 1978. Soon after (1981) Mike and Kim transferred to
Northern Ontario (Ear Falls) where he spent most of his career,
retiring from the Red Lake Detachment in January 2004. Mike was

fishing, trapping prospecting, or looking for some obscure lake
he had seen on a map. He was a devout family man, helping to
raise his two children Matthew (1985) and Gina (1987) both born
in Red Lake, Ontario. Michael put the needs of his children and
family before anything else, and was quite content to sit with
a child on each knee watching cartoons. Michael leaves to mourn
his passing his wife and best friend Kimberly, his two children,
Matthew (Janelle) and Gina (Brian) his brothers and sisters Patrick

Amy GRIEVE never needed a computer: She had a built-in one. In
a brain that kept ticking almost to the end, she stored, among
other things, the birthdays and wedding anniversaries of every
member of her extended family. Hallmark must have fattened its
bottom line on her bulk card purchases. And each card contained
a gift of money.
Unusually tiny when born, Amy never did top five feet. But she
confounded the prediction of the doctor who delivered her that
she wouldn't live more than a year.
A sheaf of yellowing certificates unearthed after her death attests
to her abilities - honours at everything from the Royal Conservatory
of Music to business and teachers' colleges.
Amy started teaching elementary school in Trout Lake, near Bancroft,
Ontario, but a few years later switched schools to Northern Ontario.
Stepping off the train in Tomiko, north of North Bay, she was
spotted by Elliott
GRIEVE, a railway telegrapher. He subsequently
wooed and wed her.
They lived up and down the Ontario Northland railway line. One
stop was Cobalt, where, during the Second World War, Amy founded
a Finnish Red Cross chapter. This was testimony to her organizational
abilities, as she hadn't a drop of Finnish blood. It became the
highest-producing branch in town.
Widowed at 50, with a car and a small insurance policy as her
only assets, Amy made enough money buying and selling houses
and investing in mortgages to help put two daughters through
university and send a third to private school.
While one daughter attended college, Amy and a three-year-old
grand_son lived and travelled in Mexico and the United States,
satisfying one of Amy's great loves - travel.
She often wintered alone in Guadalajara, Mexico, and had no qualms
about borrowing from the bank if need be to finance trips to
Europe, including the last transatlantic crossing of the Polish
liner Stefan Batory.
When macular degeneration put an end to bridge and euchre games,
Amy joined the London Public Library's talking books program
and taught herself to knit afghans by touch alone.
At 99, she was still doing her own cooking and household chores
in a home she shared with a daughter and son-in-law. By then,
hearing problems prevented her from using talking books, but
she exercised her prodigious memory and computer-like brain by
trying to recall the names of all the pupils in her Grade 4 class
and calculating the compound interest on a five-year Guaranteed
Investment Certificate in her head.
Doug ENGLISH is Amy's son-in-law.

'No evidence' alarms worked in burnt home
The death of another child raises to five the number who died
in the Hamilton fire.
By Canadian Press, Mon., March 3, 2008
Hamilton -- As the death toll following a devastating blaze inside
a single family west Hamilton home early Saturday climbed to
five, new information has surfaced that suggests the human tragedy
may have been averted had there been working smoke detectors
inside.
A day after the blaze that claimed the lives of a 22-year-old
mother, her three young daughters and a 19-year-old male resident,
fire investigators say they've found "no evidence" to show there
were functioning fire alarms or smoke detectors inside.
Noting this is the fourth fatal fire in Ontario this weekend
alone and that eight people have died, Pierre
YELLE of the Ontario
Fire Marshal's Office said it's time people get the hint.
"The Ontario Fire Marshal's Office urges everyone to have smoke
alarms properly installed inside their homes and ensure they
are in proper working order," he said.
"Smoke alarms are obviously very valuable because they create
an opportunity for you to escape."
YELLE said families also need to devise an escape plan so they
know what to do in the event of a fire emergency.
Investigators have identified the victims of Saturday's blaze
as 22-year-old Melissa
DENHOLLANDER and her daughters Emma
DENHOLLANDER-
HANIGAN,
4, Ella, 2, and Alana, 1.
YELLE said Ella had been evacuated and placed on life support
in hospital immediately after the blaze but later succumbed to
her injuries.
The body of a 19-year-old male, whose name is being withheld
pending notification of next of kin, was discovered in the living
room after firefighters brought the blaze under control.
DENHOLLANDER's 28-year-old boyfriend, Richard
GRIFFIN, remains
at the Hamilton General where he's recovering from burns and
smoke inhalation, while a 20-year-old female has been released
from hospital after treatment.
YELLE said investigators are still trying to determine the origin,
cause and circumstances of the blaze.

DANYLKIW,
Mary
Ann (née
NOLAN)
Suddenly in Oakville, on July 1, 2008, after a fall in her 82nd
year.
Mary was pre-deceased by her beloved husband of 55 years, Mike,
and two of her sons, Christopher and Michael and all of her brothers
and sisters, May, Patricia, Paddy and John
NOLAN and Nora
GRIFFIN.
She is dearly missed by her sons John (Brenda) and Brian
DANYLKIW,
her daughter Anne-Marie
WILSON and her grandchildren: Victoria,
Michelle, Lauren, Katherine, Caitlin and Esme. She is survived
as well by her many nieces and nephews.
Mary grew up in Outremont, Quebec, the last child of Philip and
Mary Teresa
NOLAN, and moved to St. Laurent with her husband.
Their incredible journey of love together took them around the
world, but they lived in Rosemere, Quebec, Toronto and then Brampton,
Ontario after which they retired to the Saanich peninsula on
Vancouver Island in British Columbia where they were both devoted
to their Friends and neighbours and deeply involved with the
parish of St. Elizabeth's Church in Sidney. When Mike passed
away in 2003, Mary's health became more fragile and she eventually
joined the Sunrise community in Victoria, British Columbia and
later came to the Sunrise residence in Oakville in October 2006.
While Mary's health continued a slow decline, she was still very
active in the Sunrise community, making many Friends and keeping
everyone on their toes. Mary will be missed by all.
The family wants to thank the many dedicated, compassionate caregivers
and staff at Sunrise, all of whom worked as a team to provide
Mom with the closest thing to home, particularly Alma, Sara,
Sabah, Henrietta, Makeba and Vanda, who went above and beyond
to make Mom's last two years as comfortable and as energizing
as possible. As well, the family also wishes to express their
deepest thanks to Doctor Helen Pyle for her constant care, assistance
and patience.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 18th at 11: 00 a.m.
at Saint Michael's Roman Catholic Church, 181 Sewell Drive (905-844-7971)
in Oakville. Memories can be shared at amjwilson@sympatico.ca
and bdanylkiw@rogers.com. Donations to the Canadian Heart and
Stroke Foundation would be gratefully accepted. A private family
interment will take place later this summer.
