Doris was a dedicated nursing teacher and professional, initially
of Hamilton General Hospital and subsequently Mohawk College
School of Nursing. Over the course of Doris' life and career
she inspired many others through her cheerful dedication and
deep generosity. She worked tirelessly for many years at First-Pilgrim
United Church, where she also developed lifelong Friendships
which were very important to her. Doris was also an award-winning
gardener, and deeply loved and cared for birds and all of nature.
A loving daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, Doris' sweet smile
and quick wit remained to the end, and will be missed by many.
Doris was born January 7th, 1924, and died March 3rd, 2008, aged

joy with his stories, his humour and his piano-playing right
till the very end. There will be a memorial gathering to honour
his gregarious and fun-loving nature at his beloved Lake of Bays.

passed away on July 24, 2008 at South Muskoka Memorial Hospital,
Bracebridge. In his 94th year, he was summering in Muskoka at

Lorne graduated from
the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Toronto in 1940
where he was the leading member of the University of Toronto
Gymnastics Team. As the Canadian All Round Gymnastics (Werry
Cup) Champion, he earned a spot on the 1940 Canadian Olympic
Team which was cancelled with World War 2. (He was thrilled to
watch his granddaughter, Rosannagh, earn her berth for the Beijing
2008 Olympics for Trampoline.) As War broke out, his thesis on
fuel injection was sent to Massachusetts Institute of Technology
where he was to do his Masters but as a mechanical engineer,
he was positioned in Guelph at Federal Wire. In Guelph, he became
a Commanding Officer in the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets Corps Ajax
where he prepared many men for positions in the navy and was
still involved until he was 80. He resided in Guelph in the home
he built on Forest Street for 65 years. During his retirement
years, he summered in Muskoka and wintered in Venice, Florida.
He will always be remembered for his engineering projects, his
outward focus on Friends, his wise counsel and active lifestyle.
He was the oldest driver featured in the video at the Grace and
Speed Museum, Gravenhurst, where he was photographed doing what
he loved most. Friends may call at the Turner and Porter Butler
Chapel, 4933 Dundas St. W., Etobicoke (between Kipling and Islington

College, University of Toronto, in French and classics. After
graduation, she taught secondary school in Paris, Ontario, until
her marriage in 1941. She worked for the Bank of Montreal in
Toronto after her marriage and through the war years. Subsequently,
she and her husband Peter, an accountant with the Bank of Montreal,
enjoyed his various postings with the Bank throughout southwestern
Ontario. During her life, Dorothy pursued her interests in painting
(founding member of the Lambeth Art Society), travel, gardening,
music and watching golf. She will be remembered for her great
love of family and her passion for reading and crossword puzzles.
On behalf of Dorothy, the family would like to thank the staff
at the Ashwood Retirement Residence, Lambeth and the Longworth
Nursing Home, London, for their wonderful care and support. Cremation
has taken place. A celebration of Dorothy's life will be held

at Huronview Home for the Aged in Clinton, Ontario. She was 88.
Loving wife of the late James
GARRIOCK.
She is survived by her
three sons David (Roberta), Ian, Philip (Mary), her sister Brenda
WILLIAMSON and seven grandchildren. She was born March 5, 1920
at Cape Farm near Terrington, Yorkshire, England. She was educated
locally and attended boarding school in Belgium prior to entering
nursing training in York, England. After becoming a registered
nurse in May, 1943 she enlisted with the Royal Air Force and
became an Royal Air Force Nursing Sister. She was posted to a
nursing station near Bombay, India where she cared for air force
personnel involved with the Burma campaign. Whilst in India she
met James GARRIOCK and they were married post war on October 24,
1946 in England. On February 7, 1947 she landed in Halifax and
joined James on a farm near Pine Grove, Ontario. She obtained
her Registered Nurse certification in Ontario and helped support
James through medical school. Following James' graduation she
assisted him in his medical practice for many years as well as
caring for a young family. She was an avid gardener, traveller
and had a strong love for animals. She will be greatly missed
by her family, Friends and the surrounding community. A memorial
service will be held on April 25, 2008 at the Doctor's House
Chapel in Kleinburg, Ontario at 11: 00 a.m. with a reception to
follow at the Doctor's House. Donations can be made in remembrance
of Sheila to the Canadian Red Cross and the Ontario Veterinary
College Pet Trust.

of the women's section of the Grey Granite Curling Club, Honourary
Member of the Owen Sound Kiwanis Club and a server for Meals
on Wheels until she realized that most of her clients were younger

passed away with her family by her side at the Royal Jubilee
Hospital in Victoria. A Capricorn, she was born January 15, 1922
in Toronto, Ontario. Beloved wife of Lorne, her everlovin' husband
and best friend for 63 wonderful years. Dear mother of her adoring
daughter Lisa and her husband Jim

Lorne returned from the war, he and his cherished
Betty were married and raised their family in Toronto, Chatham
and Burlington. When the children were grown, Betty both worked
and volunteered at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto. She approached
her endeavors enthusiastically whether it was her work, socializing
with Friends and family, bridge, cooking or tending her garden.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Betty's life was
held at the Interfaith Chapel, Finnerty Gardens, University of
Victoria on Friday July 11, 2008 at 3: 30 p.m. with Rev. Ormand
Lavenne officiating. Interment in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Toronto
will take place in September 2008, and a memorial service will

of the Simcoe Little Theatre, a 25 year volunteer for the Port
Dover Lighthouse Theatre, former employee of the Long Point Region
Conservation Authority and the Ministry of Agriculture and Foods.
She had a great interest in conservation and the protection and
prevention of cruelty to animals and wildlife. Friends are invited
