Missing woman drowned
Body found in bathtub of Sutton home on same day as murder suspect
killed himself, police say
By John GODDARD, Dale Anne
FREED, Staff Reporters, March 12,
A missing 27-year-old woman whose body was found in the bathtub
of a sedate country home was drowned, an autopsy has determined.
The body of Brenda
HEALEY was found Saturday in a latticed Sutton
house on High St.
Police believe the Newmarket woman was murdered by a man who
killed himself the same day.
On Saturday, Stephen
DANIEL, 43, was struck by a train 50 kilometres
east of Sutton, near Thorah, in Durham Region.
HEALEY and
DANIEL were once co-workers at Have Bus Will Travel,
a private transportation company serving the disabled and based
in Pefferlaw, also east of Sutton,
DANIEL's hometown.
HEALEY worked as a driver,
DANIEL as a dispatcher.
DANIEL had lived at the home of his employers, Lois and Doug
ANDREWS of Pefferlaw, for the past nine years. They never saw
anything amiss, a shocked Lois
ANDREWS had told the Star earlier.
But other residents said
DANIEL had served time behind bars after
he was convicted of stabbing a woman a decade ago.
DANIEL's car was found outside the Sutton home where
HEALEY's
body was found.
A car linked to
HEALEY was found at the train tracks where
DANIEL's
body was found, police said.
Police said his death was deliberate.
"Durham police are investigating a suicide and we're investigating
a homicide," said Duty Inspector John
BURNESS of York Region
police.
Currently,
DANIEL is considered a suspect in
HEALEY's murder.
"There's no other outstanding suspects," said Burness.
"However York Region homicide officers are continuing their investigation,"
said BURNESS.
"They want to make sure every avenue of the investigation is
looked at before they come up with their conclusions."
DANIEL once lived next door to the Sutton home where
HEALEY's
body was found.
The owner of the home, John
LEAROYD, had been recuperating in
Newmarket hospital for the last month after injuring himself
in a fall.
DANIEL had remained Friends with his former neighbour, a man
in his 70s, acquaintances have said.
A funeral mass is to be said for
HEALEY at Saint_John Chrysostom
Roman Catholic Church in Newmarket at 10 a.m. Friday.
HEALEY's family was too distraught last night to talk about their
loss.
"We're still grieving. Please give us our privacy,"
HEALEY's
brother-in-law, Brian
BAXTER, said from the dead woman's family
home in Newmarket.
BAXTER said the family would be issuing their public message
at the funeral.
Friends mourning the loss of Brenda
HEALEY wrote of their loss
on a Facebook page.
"She will always be remembered as a wonderful human being," wrote
one friend.
"May you rest in peace, dear Brenda."

That God was going to call your names,
In life we loved you dearly
In Death we do the same,
It broke our hearts to lose you two
You did not go alone
For part of us went with you
The day God called you home.
Tonight the stars are gleaming
On two lonely, silent graves
Where sleeps in dreamless slumber
Two we loved but could not save.
No one knows the silent heartaches
Only those who have lost can tell
Of the grief that we bear in silence
For the two we loved so well.
May the winds of love blow softly
And whisper so you can hear
We will always miss you and love you
And wish that you were here.

Leigh
Died June 5-08 at the age of 44 at 5: 44 a.m. It's quiet now.
Everyone has gone home. My every conscious thought is about you.
I learned too late what I needed to know. But I want to thank
you for coming home. For allowing me to hold your hand Sit by
you. Stroke your hair. Whisper in your ear all of the unspoken
words I should have said when you were awake Can you hear me
now I said that you were not alone. That you are loved. That
you would be ok I look for you everywhere and realize that you
are within me. You are in my heart and what I know nowNo matter
what happened between us in life, in the end there is always
love Let this be my lesson, to love consciously, without fear,
and with no borders. When the sunrises I think of you. When the
sun sets I look for you. When I close my eyes, I see you. I love
you sweet sister of mine May your spirit run like wild fire through
the universe. Rona~ "rough island" ~ "song" 1963-2008

STEWARD/STEWART/STUART,
Ian
Robert
(November 8, 1947-February 11, 2008)
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Ian
STEWARD/STEWART/STUART
at the age of 60. Ian passed away peacefully at Penticton Regional
Hospital in Penticton, British Columbia with his family at his
side, after a brief battle with Leukemia. Ian is survived by
his loving wife, Doctor Jacqueline
STEWARD/STEWART/STUART, his two sons Trevor
STEWARD/STEWART/STUART (daughter-in-law Kelly
FREEMAN) of Toronto, Ontario,
and Andrew
STEWARD/STEWART/STUART of Penticton, and brother Geoffrey
MURRAY
of Etobicoke, Ontario, and sister-in-law Arlene
WOITKIW of Thunder
Bay,
Ontario.
Ian was predeceased by his Mother, Catherine
STEWARD/STEWART/STUART
and Father Harold R.
STEWARD/STEWART/STUART.
Ian was born in Fort William (Thunder
Bay), Ontario and attended Selkirk Collegiate and Lakehead University.
Ian and Jackie married in Thunder Bay then went to Exeter, England
to attend Exeter University for post graduate studies. Ian and
Jackie moved to Toronto where Jackie attended medical school
and lived in Toronto for 26 years and was a long time resident
of Fallingbrook Drive in the beaches. The family moved to Penticton,
British Columbia in 2004 and Ian loved the spectacular Okanagan
Valley. Ian taught courses at Lakehead University before the
family moved to Toronto where his wife attended Medical School.
He worked several years at Miracle Food Mart while Jackie studied
medicine. He also worked for the Federal Government in the Passport
Office in Scarborough, Ontario. Subsequently, Ian found what
became his passion in life - the Stock Market. He worked independently
for a number of years trading stocks. This was the second most
important aspect of Ian's life after his family. Ian was very
passionate about politics. He ran in a Federal Election for member
of Parliament in Thunder Bay at the age of 25. Although he was
not successful, he avidly followed everything in politics all
of his life. Ian was also very active. He started jogging in
his 20's, later got his wife hooked on running and in the last
year loved running with his labradoodle, Jack on the KVR
trail in Penticton. Ian's favourite sport was baseball and was
an avid fan of the Toronto Blue Jays. Not too many games were
missed and his favourite thing to do was go to the games at the
Skydome in Toronto. Ian also loved his pets and was very attached
to his dog Jack, Tommy the parrot and the late Pigwidgeon the
cockatiel. Ian will be profoundly missed by his wife of 36 years,
Jackie, sons Trevor (Kelly) and Andrew. Prayers and visitation
will be held at Parkview Funeral Home, 1258 Main Street, Penticton,
British Columbia on Thursday February 14, 2008 at 7: 00 p.m. Funeral
services for Ian
STEWARD/STEWART/STUART will be held on Friday February 15,
2008 at 11: 00 a.m. from the Chapel of Parkview Funeral Home with
Reverend Catherine Loynd officiating. Internment will follow
in Lakeview Cemetery, Penticton. In lieu of flowers Donations
in Ian's Memory can be made to the South Okanagan Similkameen
