McDONALD, William Leonard (1919-2008)
On June 15, 2008, Len McDONALD died at Columbia Forest Long Term Care Centre in Waterloo, peacefully, with his wife Isabel present. Len seemed destined to be an Anglican clergyman, like many in his family. But after he flew Spitfires for the Royal Canadian Air Force in World War 2, he chose to be a professional engineer, working first on the Avro Arrow project. He later worked at the Chalk River Nuclear Labs, then as a bush pilot, and finally at a paper mill in Kapuskasing. In 1943, he married Barbara SCOTT of Toronto; after the War, they raised four children: Bill, Peter (deceased), Mary, and Patrick. Through them, Len has seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. In 1976, he married Isabel (POOLTON) DONNAN, acquiring four more children, Tim, Derek, Wendy, and David, and eventually six more grandchildren. In 1984, they retired to Waterloo to be nearer to their children. Len was a man of high standards, a calculated risk-taker, a music-lover, and a handyman. He had 32 wonderful years with Isabel, enjoying their children and grandchildren and their many Friends, summering at Parry Sound, square dancing, playing bridge, and travelling. He will be especially missed by Isabel, who loved him deeply. The family sincerely thanks Columbia Forest, whose skilled staff gave Len so much kind care. Friends and family will be welcomed to a visitation 7: 00-9:00 p.m. on Friday June 20, at Erb and Good Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo. A memorial service and reception will be held at 2: 00 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, at Holy Saviour Anglican Church, 33 Allen St. E., Waterloo, which Len and Isabel attended for many years. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Len's memory to the Memorial Fund at Holy Saviour Church, or your favourite charity.

At Marshall Gowland Manor on Saturday, June 21, 2008. Beloved husband of Barbara (nee: DONOHUE.) Loving father of Michael and his wife Jane, Marianne GANTER and her husband Ralph, Dianne BURNS and her husband Peter and Christopher and his wife Theresa. Proud grandfather of Laura and Emma RUPAR, Steven, Katherine and Andrew GANTER, Matthew, Carolyn and Kathleen BURNS and Nicholas, Erika and Allison RUPAR. Predeceased by parents Pauline and Anthony RUPAR and brother Charles RUPAR. Lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Walter served with the Royal Canadian Navy during World War 2. Walter was a graduate of the University of Western Ontario in Chemistry and a life member of the Chemical Institute of Canada and long time parishioner of St. Benedict's Church. Visitation will be held at the McKenzie and Blundy Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 431 Christina St. N., Sarnia, on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. where prayers will offered at 8: 30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Matthew BEDARD at St. Benedict's Church at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 25, 2008. Interment at Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery. Devoted grandma to Matthew, Mark, Rose and Joe DAVIDSON, Abigale and Emmett PARDO and Grace, Ryeland and Ava DONOHUE. DONOVAN, William Thomas Patrick " Tom"
The family of the late William Thomas Patrick Donovan born July 26, 1910 in Cork, County Cork. Ireland, died May 28, 2008. Immigrated to Canada at the age of 15 to work on a farm in Montreal. Settled in Saint Mary's where he met his bride Cecilia LOVE (deceased.) Had two daughters, Irene Cecilia and Marilyn Margaret. Saw infantry duty in Germany during World War 2 with the H.L.I., served as a Merchant Seaman in the years after the war visiting ports all over the world. Longtime member of the Royal Canadian Legion and worked at Westminster Hospital in London for 16 years. Survived by daughters Irene GILCHRIST (Max, deceased) and Marilyn PHILLIPS (Bruce), grandchildren Linda BOYLAN (Bob), Jim GILCHRIST (Marie). Rick GILCHRIST (Debbie), Shawn GILCHRIST, Cherie HERMAN (David), great-grandchildren Nicole (deceased), Caroline, Paula, Dorothy-Anne, Jamie, Garrick, and Craig. Thanks to the staff of the Royal Bank, Main Branch London; Victoria Hospital, London; and McMaster Medical Centre, 3X, Hamilton; and Doctor Dennis WALSH and Val. After a courageous battle with cancer, Kym, in her 56th year, died peacefully on Wednesday, July 23, 2008, at Saint Thomas-Elgin General Hospital. Beloved wife and best friend to Joseph Longpre and admired step-mom to Darcy, Roni (Rick), Betti and Ashley devoted daughter to Doreen and Dave PUGSLEY (deceased;) dear sister to Linda, Lee (Chris) DONOVAN, Shauna and Kenan (Chris) PUGSLEY; cherished aunt to Kristin, Lindsay, Dayna, Stephanie, Jennifer, Hudson, Merrill, Kyle, Mark and Erika. LLOYD, Graham Andrew
Died peacefully at home on Saint_Joseph Island, on April 4, 2008, after a valiant struggle with a brain tumour. He was in his 61st year. Graham was a happy, honest man who found joy in nearly everyone and everything around him. Holding his memory close are his wife, Suzanne (Burke;) children Mandy WHELAN (Jared) of Winnipeg and Colin (Kristine DONOVAN) of Tampa, Florida; grand_sons, Devan and Connor WHELAN and Andrew LLOYD; mother, Girlie LLOYD of Renfrew; sister, Marilyn (Bruce LANGE) of Douglas and brother, Geoffrey (Marian) of North Bay; niece Sabine LANGE of Bastrop, Texas and nephews Stefan LANGE, London, and David LLOYD, Toronto and twelve cousins in England. It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Terry. Terry leaves behind her cherished husband Don and her much loved children Tara, Kristy and David. She will also be missed by her large family; sisters Darlene (Tom DONOVAN,) Peggy (Roy FACH,) Mary (Court STEGGLES) and the twelve Bester Brothers: Jim (Audrey), Bernie (Denise), Jerry (Sandra), Bill, Tom (Jareth), Pat (Rose), Brian (Karen), Dennis, Michael (Darlene), Dan (Patti), Mark (Kendra) and Rick (Kim) and her many nieces and nephews. In addition to family, she was enveloped with the love of a large network of very special Friends including members of 'Dragons Abreast' dragonboat team. Terry embraced the simple gifts of life. Family, Friends, community and nature were central to her world. She was always ready for a party, ardent discussions and a brisk walk. She worked for 10 years at St. Patrick's Secondary School in Toronto with special needs students whom she showered with her warmth, empathy and joie de vivre. Terry's family extends their gratitude to the wonderful staff at Sunnybrook Regional Cancer Center. Friends may visit the Jerrett Funeral Home 6191 Yonge Street (2 lights South of Steeles) on April 20th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Monday at 11: 00 a.m. in the chapel.
