A wonderfully long and happy life came to a peaceful end on Friday, February 15th, 2008. In his 93rd year, Bud was surrounded by loving and joyous Friends thoughout his life. Predeceased by his beloved wife and best friend, Betty (née CLOUGH) in 1997. Loving and much loved father of Ann and her husband the late Colin HEUCKENDORFF, and, John and his wife Nancy (née McKERRACHER.) Cherished grandfather of Andrew and Tom HEUCKENDORFF, and, Taya, Tim and Hope CASSERLY. He will be greatly missed by his dear friend Lorraine BRYAN with whom he shared so much in recent years. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 20 at 1 p.m. at McDougall and Brown, Scarborough Chapel, 2900 Kingston Road (at McCowan). Reception following at Scarboro Golf and Country Club. HAGGINS- LAPP, Phyllis (née HAGGINS) (1936-2008)
Phyllis HAGGINS- LAPP passed away suddenly on February 12th at only 71 years old. Phyllis was best known in the community of Comox Valley, British Columbia as the Welcome Wagon Lady. Phyllis will be deeply missed by her husband, David Henry LAPP of British Columbia and her daughter and friend, Andrea Corae BRACKEN. Phyllis will be lovingly remembered by her sons: Kelly and Kevin CASSIDY and her granddaughter, Christina CASSIDY. Nanny will surely be missed by the grand_sons she was so proud of: Matthew John MEIJA and Jeffery Howard MEIJA. She is also survived by her sisters: Kay CAMPBELL, Barbara GRANT, Roberta McLEAN (née HAGGINS) and her brothers: Neville, Andrew and Wayne HAGGINS, who reside in Ontario and were born in Owen Sound. She was predeceased by her brothers, Howard Jr. HAGGINS and Charles HAGGINS, and her parents, Norma and Howard HAGGINS of Owen Sound, Ontario. Phyllis was born in Owen Sound and resided in Kitchener-Waterloo for many years. Having resided in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island for the past 15 years, Phyllis loved this beautiful community and bloomed in her position as a Welcome Wagon Representative. In 2006, she was presented with an award for outstanding performance and community service. Phyllis lived her life with confidence and energy. She was a supportive mother and a devoted wife who has left a void in many lives. A celebration of Phyllis' life will be held at Piercy's Mt. Viewing will be held at the Jardine Funeral Home, Fenelon Falls on July 11th from 2-4 and 7-9 with service July 12th at noon held at the Fenelon Falls Baptist Church, followed by reception. Special thanks to Kim (Palliative Care), Kelly, Marg and Mike (Bayshore) for their care during the last couple of weeks. MacQUARRIE, Harry " Ivan"
Harry 'Ivan' MacQUARRIE of Etobicoke, Ontario, passed gracefully at Saint_Joseph's Health Centre, Toronto on Wednesday, July 23, 2008. Born February 14, 1929 in Cape Breton Settlement, New Brunswick, he was the youngest of the late Henry and Catherine (HANINGTON) MacQUARRIE. Ivan leaves behind his second wife, H. Rosemary MOWAT, his brothers Earle of Moncton, Ronald of Saint John and sister, Kathleen SKIDD (Ralph) of Moncton. Predeceased by his treasured wife Edith Isabel (MacRAE) MacQUARRIE, brother John and sisters Gladys MacQUARRIE, Mildred KELLY, Thelma CHRISTENSEN, Beulah CASSIDY and Eileen EAGLES. His many nieces and nephews from his and Edie's families will remember Ivan fondly; as will his extended families of Michael CULVER and Laura DURANT. Ivan spent his entire career with Canadian Oil (White Rose) that was, taken over by Shell Canada. From the 40's to the 80's he started as office clerk, then to the auditing team; oh, what memorable stories he had of those days. Next he was a sales representative, and not long after the sales manager. Some of his best times were in Halifax working on the conversion from White Rose to Shell. He ended his career as advertising manager with travels to the Orient to source products for customer loyalty programs. In retirement he joined Al Kush and Associates, working on many successful direct mail marketing projects with Eaton's and American Express. During his life, he enjoyed golfing, curling, squash, boating and his partnerships in standard bred horses. He also loved his many winters in Lauderdale-By-TheSea, Florida. One of his most difficult times was being a Juror on the Bernardo trial. Come to Ivan's last Directors' meeting at the Valhalla Inn, Etobicoke, on Friday, August 1st from 4: 00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. to say goodbye. After cremation, Ivan and dog Sandy will join Edie at St. Stephen's United Church, Black River Bridge, New Brunswick on Wednesday, August 13th at noon. Born in London on December 7, 1924 son of the late Mary Oultram and Francis CASSIN, he was a former business owner and served with the Royal Canadian Navy during World War 2. He will be sadly missed by: his children, Wayne and wife Nancy of Owen Sound, Gwen PAYNE of Sarnia, and Susan BOYER of Vancouver, and their mother Marjory CASSIN, 3 grandchildren, Robert, Michael and Shelley, 3 sisters Marjorie BENNETT and husband John, Lorraine ERICKSON and Beverly HENRY all of London and a brother Kenneth and wife Gerry also London. Born in Saint Thomas on June 14th, 1934 to the late James and Janet (IRVINE) "Babe" MOODIE. He was employed by the New York Central Railroad for 9 years and then the Saint Thomas Fire Dept. as a First Class Firefighter for over 30 years until his retirement in 1993. Irv is also survived by his two sons Michael and his wife Beverley and David and his wife Darlene all of Saint Thomas; by a brother James Harry MOODIE, London and a sister Janet (Bill) CLINTON of London and sister-in-law Joyce MOODIE, Saint Thomas. Also survived by 4 grandchildren Jaimi-Lee, Kitchener, Adam, Zachary and Alexandra all of Saint Thomas; brothers and sisters in-law Jeanette (Reg) FAUBERT, Saint Thomas; Claudette (Bill) DOBSON, Clearville; Kenneth (Valerie) CASSIS, London; Philip (Lorna) CASSIS, Saint Thomas and Lynda (Ian) CHARLTON, North Carolina and nieces and nephews by an aunt Alice IRVINE, Port Stanley and by a special family friend Mary BROWN, Windsor. On February 26th, 2008, in Guadalajara, Mexico, from the effects of lung cancer. Frank, 77, was loved, and will be fondly remembered, by his wife Geraldine CASTLE- TRUDEL and her children Jennifer (widow of Brigadier-General Marc POULIOT, mother of Jessica and Nicole,) Nicholas (husband of Jennifer-Anne McNEILL, father of Noah,) Victoria NOURY (mother of David and Erik) and Mellissa (wife of Ian HOLMES, mother of Oliver.) Also bereaved are his daughters Virginia HOWARD, Susan (wife of Robin LYNCH, mother of Jessica and Alison,) Lisa (wife of Andrew FOGARASIS, mother of Peter and Alice,) Jennifer HOWARD (married to Mary SCOTT,) and their mother Patricia, as well as many other relatives and numerous Friends. When Frank retired from journalism on February 18, 1994, he was writing the Bureaucrats column in the Ottawa Citizen. As a tribute, John Gray reminisced about Frank as a journalist and friend for The Bureaucrats: Souvenir Edition. What John wrote is as affectionately appropriate today as it was then: "Many, many years ago when he was Canada's youngest city editor on Canada's oldest daily newspaper, Frank HOWARD taught me the rudiments of journalism. For this I am grateful: it has kept me off the streets in the intervening 30 odd years. Since then, however, the HOWARD scorecard is a bit smudged. Early on, he set out to save the country. He busied himself with the affairs of Quebec and talked endlessly to those who would listen about the mystic union of French and English Canada. He wanted to be, he said, un interlocuteur valable. The rest is history - the immediate birth of the Quebec separatist movement and the country's long decline into the national toilet. So much for the joys of mysticism. He was not much better outside Quebec. He travelled to Toronto to be the best man at our wedding. This was much appreciated, except that he insisted on playing the rustic, throwing himself downstairs in full view of 50 people. Two days later, at what was supposed to be a wedding party, he lectured another 50 people for 4½ hours on the evils of contraception. A lot of people still believe that I am a hideous judge of character. In the mid-1960s he persuaded me that the Montreal Star was a wonderful place to work. He left within a few weeks. And a few years later, of course, the Montreal Star died. Through long and patient effort, Frank was crucial in furthering a lifelong commitment of myself and many others to beer and related pleasures. Later he renounced the devil and all his works and he now looks upon the rest of us with sad eyes and infinite pity and superiority. My own suspicion is that this exalted moral plane from which he now views the world is his own revenge for a lifetime of short jokes. Those who know him will recognize in all this a desperate ring of truth. However, I will say this for Frank. Over the years he has resisted the temptation to teach me everything he knows about snooker. Of such forbearance is great Friendship made."
In accordance with his wishes he has been cremated, and so "Adieu kind friend, adieu…."

Suddenly while vacationing in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico on Monday, March 17, 2008. Daughter of the late Feliciana and Hugo GUTIERREZ, she is survived by her sisters, Rosa DE CASTRO and Leticia CHEN, her brothers Hugo, Cunegundo and Leonidas. Loving aunt to her many nieces and nephews including May Lyn, Sharon, Sue Lyn, Leo Jr. and Raymin. Rebecca was born on February 19, 1936 in Lubao, Pampanga, Philippines. She was a nurse for over 30 years at Sunnybrook Hospital. After retiring from Sunnybrook Hospital, she spent much time travelling the World with family and Friends and being a Sunday School teacher at Fairbank United Church. She was taken before her loving family and many Friends could say goodbye and she will be fondly remembered for her genuine caring for others, energetic personality and good humour. The family gives special thanks to Lyne Benoit, Honorary Consul of Canada and Sally Dowe Marchand, Consular Affairs Bureau for helping to bring Rebecca home. The family will receive Friends at the Humphrey Funeral Home - A.W. Miles Chapel, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Eglinton Avenue East) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, March 25. At Woodstock General Hospital on Monday, April 21, 2008, John "Jack" Frederick HYATT of Woodingford Lodge, Woodstock, in his 90th year. Beloved uncle of Marion MARSHALL and her late husband David of Saint Thomas, Don CASWELL of London, Nancy CAPERN and her late husband Dave of Ingersoll and great uncle of Mary MARSHALL of Woodstock, Margaret PHILLIPS and her husband Ray of Saint Thomas, Sherri NAIRN and her husband Doug of Thamesford, and Darryl CAPERN and his wife Lenore of Ingersoll. Also survived by many other nieces and nephews as well as many great and great great nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Frederick and Lilly HYATT and by one brother and six sisters. During the Second World War, Jack was stationed in Woodstock and served in the Rank of Corporal. Jack retired after 21 years with Allen Bradley in Galt. Jack was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion in Waterloo. Cremation has taken place. Passed away at University Hospital, London, Ontario on Thursday, May 15, 2008 in her 84th year. Predeceased in 2005 by her husband of 63 years, Ned RISSLING. Also predeceased by two brothers, James and Grant LLOYD. Dearest and most beloved mother of Elaine and Craig CASWELL (Sudbury,) Sharon and David RUBY (Strathroy,) Linda BALTZER (London), Jim and Linda (Strathroy), Shirley (Strathroy), Beverley and Doug JONES (Whitby,) Dale and Jacquie (Saint Thomas,) Terry (Saint Thomas) and Douglas (London). Loving and fun loving sister of Audrey LIMOGES (Robert, deceased,) Arden LLOYD and Carolyn and Leo ROUSSY (Sudbury.) Precious grandmother of Garnet and Joh-Anna, Neil and Elizabeth, Brent and Kami-Rae, Glenn and Lianne, Gregory and Karen, Sandra and David, Beth and Mark, Karen and Jeff, Jennifer and Richard, Sherri and Steven, Frankie, Ned Jr., Tara, Amy-Jo, Shannon and Dave, Tiffany and Kyle, Drew and Amanda, Daniel and Tasha, Melissa and Jamie-Lynn. Also survived by 28 great-grandchildren. Survived by two sisters-in-law, Eva McLEAN and Regina HOSKINS of Regina, Saskatchewan. and several nieces and nephews. This was Mom's legacy - each person meant so much to her, each one equally important. She delighted in her family's visits and kept a little stash of toys and books in her home "in case the great-grandchildren came by." Born in Toronto, the eldest child of Mildred WILSON and Edgar LLOYD (deceased.) She moved to Kagawong as a child, and later to Sudbury. Her kindness in caring for her family was always her first priority - she lived by her Heart. A spirited young woman, she learned to drive the family automobile at age 14 and shared some very humorous stories with her family. She often said she could live without many things, but not without her car. Her grandchildren often teased her with their pet names of Grandma Dynamite, Little Grandma and Diamond Lil because of her love and accumulation of fine jewelry. As a young married woman, Doreen traveled to the Air Force Bases with her husband and young child and made the best of each sometimes difficult situation. A wonderful cook, who could make "something from nothing", and learned how to cook her husbands' favorite German dishes, and took great glee in his compliments of outdoing his own precious mother's cooking. Mom was often asked for her recipes and would simply say they were "all written in her Head" as she divulged her secret style. Doreen was a partner with her husband in their Family Business before moving to London over 30 years ago, although she was sad to leave her Gatchell and Sudbury Friends. She was a great card player and also enjoyed her television game shows and could "outwit" all of us with her brilliant knowledge on many topics. For the past several years in failing health, Mom gratefully acknowledged the special help of her daughter Linda, in both her and Dad's illnesses. She continued to love the simple pleasures of life and very much enjoyed the neighbourly chit chats and especially appreciated the kind help of her good friend Bob (the neighbourhood Mayor). At The Place She Loved Best, a private celebration will take place at the Country Estate Home of her daughter Sharon and Son-in-law David RUBY. Mother loved their long winding and Lantern Lit acres of green fields, with Lilac trees and a myriad of flowers - she loved the fresh fragrances of the grass and the songbirds as they playfully whipped around. She loved to reminisce about this place that reminded her of her beloved childhood home on Manitoulin Island. A spiritual woman who showed great courage in the face of her illness, her life will be celebrated as she had wished, with her family gathered together in Friendship, loads of food, gospel music, story telling and children playing everywhere, running noisily amongst the trees. She would say "it doesn't get any better than this". The Matriarch and Hub of her family, missing her is an "understatement". Safe in the arms of Jesus, peacefully resting and "Free At Last".
