Our dear Lorrie died quietly at his home on Thursday March 6.
son of Pioneers and a pioneer himself, Lorenz Paul (Lorrie)
BLASER
was born at his parents' homestead in Saskatchewan where they
farmed after immigrating to Canada in the 1890's. Growing up,
his family realized that, while he wouldn't make a good farmer,
Lorenz loved mathematics, so they found the money to send him
to high school and university in Saskatoon where he became a
Chemical Engineer
first of his family ever to attend university. He began working
with British American Oil Company, digging ditches in the Calgary
refinery, rising through the engineering ranks to management.
B.A. Oil became Gulf Oil Canada and he ended his career as President
of the Gulf Canada Products Company.
Lorrie felt himself very lucky to have won the love of two wonderful
women: Marjorie
ORR of Calgary his wife for 52 years until her
passing in 1993, and his second wife
Dorothy
LIVEY who enriched
his last 8 years with love and devoted care.

business under her own label at a time when working women/mothers
were not the fashion. She turned a basement home workshop into
an awardwinning design studio, selling her styles in Canada,
the United States and Japan. She was a dynamo -- a big presence
in the lives of those around her. Her fashions are now part of
the costume and textiles collection at the McCord Museum of Canadian
History in Montreal. In recognition of her late husband's contributions,
she established the Norman Strauss Fellowship for Professional
Ethics in Business at McGill University's Desautels Faculty of
Management. Her spirit and enthusiasm live on in us all. Thanks
to the Mount Sinai Hospital Intensive Care Unit staff, and a

North York General Hospital on January 7th, 2008. Survived by
her two children Leslie (Peter
BLAYNEY) and David (Carol and
daughter Laura). Mary lived a full life of wonder, challenge,
and accomplishment. She enjoyed the varied experience life offered
and was always eager to share her views on what she had learned
so far. All would agree that she made you think, question and
participate in what life presented. She will be sadly missed
by her family and all who knew her. A family memorial will be
held in the spring at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Toronto. Donations
to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or North York General Hospital
(Toronto), where she was always well cared for, would be appreciated
by the family.
