Police call deaths of three on reserve 'suspicious' but dismiss
foul play
By Anthony
CAPUANO,
Page
A12
Three people have been found dead on a native reserve in Eastern
Ontario amid mysterious circumstances.
"At this point, we have no apparent cause of death, but are treating
it as suspicious," said Sergeant Kristine
RAE,
Ontario
Provincial
Police liaison officer for the Tyendinaga Police service.
Reserve police were called to a home on Bayshore Road in the
Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory, east of Belleville, around 10 p.m.
Thursday. There, they found the bodies of a husband and wife,
Donald and Wendy
LLOYD, both 45, and Stephen
BLANCHARD, 42. Two
bodies were found in the house, the third in a van on the driveway.
Police said no weapons or drugs were discovered in the home.
Investigators do not suspect foul play in any of the deaths after
preliminary postmortem examinations. Sgt.
RAE said further toxicology
testing was required, but would provide no details.
Several neighbours were shocked at news of the deaths on the
normally quiet reserve.
"I couldn't believe it," said Sharon
MARACLE, who lives a few
houses down from the scene.
"It's a peaceful area here. From what I knew of [the victims],
they were good people, never got into any trouble."
Located on the Bay of Quinte between Belleville and Napanee,
Tyendinaga is a 73-square-kilometre reserve that is home to more
than 2,200 people of the Mohawk nation.
