Dear grandfather of Erin, Colin (Maria,) and their son, Liam BARLEY Kate BARLEY; Sarah HOWARD (Tommy FERRIS), Jonathan and Mary HOWARD Roxanne FAVERO, Rich and Rogie GOODCHILD. Dear brother of Audrey McINTOSH (David) of Summerland, British Columbia and the late Donald and Kenneth SMITH. Maurice was a veteran of World War 2 serving as a radar technician with 436 Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force; speaker for the Dominion Institute Memory Project; retired professor of Apiculture, University of Guelph. His profession led him and his wife of 55 years to France, Kenya, Colombia and Peru. In retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren at the family cottage at Stoney Lake.

Doug was a former employee of Jackson Bakery, and for many years was manager of the Concession Booth at the Tillsonburg Arena. He was also a security guard at Mohawk, and Greenwood Raceways. Doug will be remembered as an outstanding baseball pitcher in the Tillsonburg Minor Ball System. Doug was also an avid sport fan of the Detroit Tigers. Upon returning to Canada she earned her diploma in Public Health from the University of Toronto and worked in Public Health in Sarnia with the Lambton County Health Unit and the Rotary Children's Centre while raising her family. Betty was a devoted and active member of Laurel-Lea St. Matthew's Church, whose congregational support and encouragement were a source of much comfort. Born in Sudbury, Ontario, Ray was a kind and gentle soul who always had a ready smile and a wonderful attitude despite the many challenges that he had overcome in his lifetime. Ray worked for many years at the Ontario March of Dimes where his compassion and his sense of humour brightened many lives. His knowledge and skills in electronics and technology were ahead of the time. Ray was an enthusiastic science and space advocate who won awards for his innovative web site. Phyllis BARNES was born to a farm family, the second of four children.
As a young woman, she spread her wings and experienced work, education, travel and living in different places. But the farm and her family remained her rock. She was pulled between the city and country for their different gifts, but happily she never had to choose one over the other.
Phyllis began her working life in the army at 18. She was a social worker for many years. At 52, she returned to school to become a United Church minister. Her farm background suited her for the rural charge near London, Ontario, where she served as pastor for nine years.
As a single woman, Phyllis had sacrificed material security to study at university. Although somewhat strapped for cash in retirement, she never regretted her decision. "I wouldn't have missed it for the world," she said. She had heard the call, and it was "Feed my sheep."
Cooking and the breaking of bread brought her into a greater intimacy with others. She loved to have people over for lunch or supper, recruiting the guest to chop vegetables and help with the dishes while chatting about the subjects nearest to her heart - the environment, social justice and her exploration of feminist spirituality. Even late in her life, when she could hardly move because of the pain in her hips, she would invite people to lunch.
Phyllis loved gardening, and although later on she didn't have her own plot, she was rarely without a garden somewhere to work. The family home in Arkona had a huge garden where she planted vegetables, but she visited too infrequently to keep giant weeds at bay. Nonetheless, at harvest time she would fill her car trunk with vegetables to share with her Friends in the city.
After her retirement from the ministry, Phyllis continued to expand her own spiritual life through the exploration of dream work, drumming and poetry. It was hard for her to settle down to focus on writing poems because she was always so busy. But thanks to her Friends' encouragement, she published a chapbook called Come Dance With Me that beautifully reflected her joyful essence.
In her later years, Phyllis was challenged by serious health issues that finally slowed her down. One of her saddest days was when she had to give up her car. Her wings had been clipped, and she needed family and Friends to take her out and come to see her.
With her health declining, she moved from her apartment into a nursing home. But she bore all her trials with grace, trusting that God and life would not let her down.

He is survived and forever rejoiced in by his wife Doris, his children Cheryle OLDROYD (Laurie), Beverly GRENVILLE- MYHAL (Allan HUTCHINSON/HUTCHISON,) Gregory MYHAL (Hoa,) and Denise PARRY (Roger,) as well as by his sisters Helen MANTON and Pauline BONYUN. He was a favourite 'Grandad Johnny' to his many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his sisters Kay ROPER, Anne BARNES, and big brother Mike MYHAL. John attended Brantford Collegiate Institute and served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during the war. After 1945, he returned to Brantford and began his cabinetmaking career on Richardson Street where he created his woodworking masterpieces for the next 60 years. Examples of his superb craftsmanship grace numerous homes and businesses throughout Brant County. In the summer, when not 'at the shop', John could be found perfecting his other passion on the local golf fair ways. He was a formidable opponent, but always a more generous friend and playing partner - he achieved his treasured 'hole in one' late on in his career at the Burford Golf Links. John will be loved and remembered by all for his bighearted spirit, his corny sense of humour, and always 'being there' for family and Friends. Please join our family in celebrating John's modest, but still remarkable and exemplary life. If a man's life can be measured by the firmness and warmth of his handshake, then John had no equal. Passed away on July 19th, 2008, at Saint_Joseph's Health Centre in Guelph, Ontario. Husband of 45 years to Diane (née FRATTINI) and loving father of Sandra BARNES (Craig,) Susan HILDEBRANT (Sylvain MAILHOT) and Catherine VARGA (Anthony.) Devoted grandpa to Genevieve and Chloe. Special uncle to many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Allan and Lillian (née WUORI,) and brother Kenneth. Harvey was a well respected Mechanical Engineer and mentor, and was recognized for his active leadership in community work. He will be greatly missed by his many Friends and family. A private celebration of Harvey's life will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 24th, 2008 at Saint_Joseph's Health Centre, 100 Westmount Road, Guelph N1H 5H8. Entered into rest at the Ross Memorial Hospital, Lindsay on Tuesday, March 11, 2008 in his 70th year. Howard was the beloved husband of Marilyn (née TAILOR/TAYLOR) for 49 years. Loving father of Mark, and Tammy. Cherished grandfather of Leslie, and Rachel. Survived by brothers-in-law Howard RYAN and George BARNES, and their families. Howard will be greatly missed by many neighbours and Friends.
