WITHER, Isobel Fleming (née POTTER) (1923-2007)
Born in Cypress River, Manitoba, Isobel passed away peacefully on Friday, November 9th at Providence Health Care Centre in Toronto. Isobel lived in Winnipeg for most of her life where she and her late husband Glenn raised their family. She will be lovingly remembered by her children and their families; Joan and Tim ROUNDS (Laurel, Will, and his wife Anthea,) Bruce and Joan WITHER (Robert, John and Allison) and Don and Donna WITHER (Jacqueline.) Isobel was predeceased by her husband Glenn in 1981 after 35 wonderful years of marriage. Isobel's focus was charity work with over 40 years working for the McKinnon Guild in Winnipeg, supporting the Children's Hospital Foundation. She was a prodigious knitter, providing yearly sweaters for her grandchildren and mittens for all. She enjoyed her golf and the many Friendships she made at Southwood Golf and Country Club. Her fondest memories are of her youth spent at Fox Lake with her brother Ross and cousins David and Margaret. Despite Rheumatoid Arthritis, Isobel proudly maintained her independence in Winnipeg until last Christmas, when a fall necessitated her move to Toronto. Although Winnipeg was always her home, her close proximity to her children in her last year was a blessing to all. Many thanks to the compassionate staff at Providence Health Care Centre for their help and support, particularly in her last few months. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to The Arthritis Society or Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba. A private family memorial will be held in Toronto, followed this spring with her interment and a celebration of her life in Winnipeg.

RICHMOND, Joy (née BREFF)
Peacefully, after months of a courageous fight against cancer, Joy, at the age of 76, passed away at home on Wednesday, October 10, 2007. She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Doris BREFF of New York. Joy was deeply adored by her husband Alec. She is survived by him and by two most loving daughters, Susan of London and Nina (Martin ROSS) of Toronto, as well as two granddaughters, Hannah and Isabel who truly loved their dear grandma. Also survived by sister, Gail, sister-in-law Judy, nieces Sharon ZANE, Caroline GOODMAN and Jill BRANDES and a special cousin, Marilyn RABIN and their families, and many other Friends who have been so kind always and particularly during her illness. Joy was born in New York and soon after graduating from University of Michigan, while on a holiday in the Adirondacks, met her husband to be and within 28 days of that meeting, they were married. Skeptical Friends were sure the match would not last. They were very wrong. It lasted over fifty two years. As soon as she was wed, Joy moved to London and spent the rest of her life enjoying that city. With her high spirits, sense of humanity and delightful sense of humor, she made many, many Friends. She did not sit still. Almost immediately after arriving in Canada, she became involved as an actress with the London Little Theatre and joined various clubs such as Hadassah of which she early became president. She was a devotee of theatre and musicals at London's Grand, and in Toronto, New York, Stratford, Niagara-on-the Lake and on. With Friends she loved playing bridge and Canasta. She also was most enthusiastic about travel and spent time in many countries of the world, both exotic and otherwise. Once her daughters had grown up and flown the coop, she went to work as a travel agent, one who insisted on getting the best for her loyal clients. On her behalf, her family wishes to express deep appreciation to all of the devoted and caring medical staff at Victoria Hospital on Commissioners. Sincere thanks as well to Medical Priorities, Victorian Order of Nurses and Community Care Access Centre. Donations, if any, would be much appreciated by the Canadian Cancer Society. Funeral Service will take place at Logan Funeral Home, 371 Dundas Street (between Waterloo and Colborne St.) on Sunday, October 14, 2007 at 3 p.m. and will be conducted by Rabbi Joel WITTSTEIN of Temple Israel. Interment Restmount Cemetery. Online condolences can be expressed at www.loganfh.ca A tree will be planted as a living memorial to Joy RICHMOND.

DOLISZNY, Mary (née WITYK)
It is with great sorrow that we announce that Mary DOLISZNY (nee WITYK) left peacefully on Friday, May 25, 2007 after a life well lived. Born August 7, 1927 in Korchmyn, Ukraine, Mary, her mother, Matrona and her older brother, John, emigrated to Kingston, Ontario to join their father/husband, Hryhorij in 1937. After completing elementary and secondary schooling in Kingston, Mary completed the R.N. nursing program at the Ontario Hospital in Long Branch, Ontario. She worked as a nurse at the Ontario Hospital in Kingston, the Halifax General Hospital and the St. Catharines General Hospital. Mary met the love of her life, Benjamin Walter DOLISZNY, in June, 1946, while attending a Ukrainian Language Course in Winnipeg. They married September 16, 1950. In addition to being a loving and devoted wife to Ben, she was a caring and loving mama to Bonnie, Kathie (Dr. Stephen ARCHER) and Greg (Julie) and loving baba to Malanka, Eta, Ben, Matthew, Thomas, Anya and Luke. She was a considerate and generous sister/sister-in-law to John (Lucia), Peter (Judy) and Patricia KUCHAR. She was a beloved tsiotsia/teta to eight nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her parents and brother, John. Mary was actively involved in the Ukrainian Catholic Church. A long-time member of Sts. Cyril and Methodius Church in St. Catharines, she held numerous executive positions in the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League of Canada at the local and national levels. She was National President of the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League of Canada between 1980 and 1983. She was also a member of the World Federation of Ukrainian Women's Organizations and was Treasurer General of the World Union of Catholic Women's Organizations for ten years. Her involvement as a volunteer in these organizations reflected her love of her homeland and Church and took her to conferences/meetings around the world including Australia, Mexico, Europe and Africa. She was awarded the Pro Ecclesia it Pontifice medal by Pope John Paul II, as well as the Shevchenko Medal. She was fiercely proud of her Ukrainian heritage and, to this end, opened a shop, "Ukrainian Treasures" on Vine Street, in St. Catharines in 1980. She supplied "all things Ukrainian" to the Niagara Region and Western New York. We will miss our baba, but are comforted to know that she has gone to a place where she will find peace. Vichnaya Pam'iat. Mary's family will receive Friends at the George Darte Funeral Home, 585 Carlton Street, on Sunday and Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Liturgy will be held at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Church on Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. Panachyda will be recited at the funeral home Monday evening at 7: 30 p.m. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League Scholarship Fund or Sts. Cyril and Methodius Church Building Fund.
