ZYBERK, Jan Maria (June 20, 1926-December 29, 2006)
Passed away peacefully in the 81st year of his life on December 29,
2006 at his home surrounded by his loving wife and children,
after a courageous, six year battle with cancer. Born to Jan
PLATER-
ZYBERK and Maria
(TYSZKIEWICZ) in Wilno, Poland in 1926,
he was a Polish patriot who faithfully served his country in
World War 2 and distinguished himself during the Warsaw Uprising
of 1944 in the Polish home army (A.K.). In 1994, the Polish government
awarded him with the Cross for Valor. Following the war he made
his way to England where he met and married Elizabeth (née
GUZKOWSKA.)
They moved to Canada to establish a family, a home and a new
way of life. Jan had a fulfilling 25-year career as a representative
for KLM, Royal Dutch Airlines. He was fiercely proud of his
adopted country. He is survived and greatly missed by his loving
wife of 56 years, Elizabeth (Halszka); his daughters Elizabeth
(CREASE) and Dorothy
(COOPER) and his son in-law Grant; and his
son, Jan. He was the proud and loving grandfather who always
had time for his eight grandchildren; Kathryn (Hugh), Patricia
and Jeff (CREASE;)
Samantha and Jason
(COOPER;) and Nicholas,
Carolyn and Ben

ZYBERK. He also leaves his sister Barbara
and her husband Tadeusz and their children Anka and Jacek; his
brother-in-law Andrzej and wife
Zofia
GUZKOWSKI and children
Monika and Adam. Jan was predeceased by his brother Andre and
his wife Alix. The family extends special thanks to Doctor Klinghofer,
Dr. Hassouna, Doctor Jason Lee and Paula, and the nursing staff
at Toronto Western Hospital; the caring, visiting nurses from
St. Elizabeth; the support staff at the Community Care Access
Centre (North York); and the many Friends, relatives and neighbours
who showed their love. Friends may call at the Turner and Porter
Roncesvalles Chapel, 436 Roncesvalles Ave., (at Howard Park)
on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at
St. Stanislaus Church, 12 Denison Ave., on Saturday, January 6,
2007 at 11: 00 a.m. Reception to follow at Polish Combatants Association,
206 Beverley Street. If desired, donations may be made to the
Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
