SITTON,
Margaret
Eva (née
BENNING)
Peacefully at Saint Vincent Hospital in Ottawa on Friday, July 20,
2007. Eva was born on August 30, 1922, daughter of James and
Isobelle BENNING of Glenhurst (Ayrshire cattle farm) in Williamstown,
Ontario. Predeceased by her brother Forbes (Royal Canadian Air
Force), sister Jean and brother David. Survived by David's widow
Aline, their children Lynda and Forbes and his children Chloe
and David of London, Ontario. Eva's cousin Douglas Benning
MacDONALD
and his wife Margaret of Kemptville, their son Christopher (Carla)
of Ottawa and daughter Blythe of Toronto will miss her deeply
as will Eva's many Friends and colleagues. In 1944 Eva
BENNING
graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Royal Victoria Hospital
Training School for Nurses in Montreal. After 'specialing' from
Kingston to Victoria, she worked as a nurse for the Toronto Transit
Commission in Toronto. Returning to Montreal and the Royal Vic,
she became Director of Nursing for the Ross Pavilion. On retirement
to Kemptville, she continued to enjoy international travel, repeating
earlier trips to the Edinburgh Festival in Scotland, vacations
in Indonesia and New Zealand and cooking class in Tuscany. Eva
and Friends annual pilgrimage to Ontario's Stratford Shakespeare
Festival was a yearly highlight. Eva was an active participant
in her Kemptville book club, a member of Saint_John's United Church,
the Ottawa Women's Canadian Club and Probus. She was also Past
President of the Royal Victoria Hospital Nurses Alumni Association
(1971-1973). Eva was a generous and enthusiastic hostess to Friends
and neighbours and with them enjoyed a rich and fun filled retirement
until a stroke in October 2002, followed by residency at Saint
Vincent, seriously restricted her life. Nonetheless, Eva remained,
to Friends and family, an optimistic and witty entertainer who
endured without complaint. 'Her stories are remembered, her spirit
is embraced'. A memorial gathering will be held at Saint_John's
United Church, 400 Prescott Street, Kemptville on Saturday, July 28th
at 11 a.m. Inurnment will be held at a later date at St. Andrew's
Churchyard in Williamstown, Ontario. Those who wish may make
