PERRON,
Jacqueline
Emilienne
Passed away peacefully at home, 590 Huron Street, Toronto on
Friday, October 26, 2007 with her husband by her side. Beloved
wife of Paul
PERRON,
Professor of French and former Principal
of University College, University of Toronto, she is survived
by her dear sister Hélène
LACHANT and brother-in-law Michel,
her brother Jean-Jacques
MAURIN and his spouse Michèle, numerous
nieces and nephews in France and her dog, devoted walking companion
and fellow traveller, Loulou. Jacqueline was born in Aiguillon,
lot et Garonne France. A graduate of the École de la haute couture
de Paris, she began her career with Jacques Esterel and Oleg
Cassini in Paris, France. Jacqueline met Paul in Bordeaux in
1962, they lost sight of each other, Jacqueline going to Paris
to study high fashion and Paul staying in Bordeaux to finish
a PhD in French literature. They were separated for four years
and met again by chance in the 5th arrondissement in Paris in
May 1966 going to see a classical film. They saw each other again
and thus continued a wonderful and loving 41 year partnership.
As they would both say later on "Le hasard fait bien les choses"
or chance has a way of doing things. She rejoined Paul in Canada
in April 1967 where she quickly became a leader in the growing
Canadian fashion industry. In Toronto she worked as a designer
for Holiday Knitwear, National Knitwear and Dylex, where she
was co-responsible for the Daniel Hechter line. For sixteen months
Jacqueline fought a courageous battle with lung cancer with the
same grace and courage that marked her life. Jacqueline will
be remembered for her kindness and generosity, her keen intelligence
and sense of style, her warmth and compassion and for the way
she welcomed everyone to her home - whether that home was at
590 Huron Street or University College where for eight years
she and her husband hosted numerous elegant evenings. She was
greatly loved by all students, staff, faculty and alumni of the
College and will be deeply missed by all those whose lives she
touched. Following her wishes there will be no public or private
ceremonies and those wishing to commemorate Jacqueline can make
a donation in her name to the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation,
610 University Avenue, Toronto M5G 2M9 whose caring and gifted
staff gave her such personal and loving care.
