LOPER,
The
Reverend
Brant
Phister
Died suddenly in his home on Tuesday May 29th 2007, at the age
of 77 years. Brant Phister
LOPER was born in Cincinnati, Ohio
on July 17th 1929. He was a graduate of Hanover College in Indiana,
and completed his theological studies at McCormick Seminary College
in Chicago in 1962, after which he served several pastorates
in Ohio. Brant was then program director at the Yokefellow Institute
in Richmond, Indiana. Brant and his family moved to Canada in
1975, where he served eleven years as the Parish Planner for
the Board of Congregational Life with The Presbyterian Church
of Canada. In 1989, Brant began his work with the United Church
of Canada. His pastorates in Ontario over the years included
Knob Hill United Church in Scarborough and Binkley United Church
in Hamilton. Rev.
LOPER was most proud of his work with Saint_John's
United Church in Georgetown, and Glen Williams United Church,
where he served as Minister to both parishes simultaneously.
Brant always had a positive outlook on life, and attributed this
mentality to helping him beat cancer and remain cancer free.
In his retirement years, Brant was able to enjoy his many different
hobbies and interests. He was an avid supporter of the arts,
in particular the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony Orchestra. He attended
his Sherlock Holmes group "The Main Street Irregular's", the
Halton-Peel Canadian Club, and was a member of the Ontario Black
History society with particular interest in the studies and education
of the Underground Railroad. He was a Minister Emeritus and a
member of the Glen Abbey United Church congregation from which
he drew much inspiration. Brant was proud to be a Canadian and
was an active member and supporter of the New Democratic Party.
A true "people person", Brant was always upbeat and was happiest
when surrounded by people where he could engage in stimulating
conversation and the sharing of ideas. Brant is survived by his
sons Christopher Brant

Kylie and
John
Calvin
