Peter (1925-2007)
Peter passed away peacefully in Montréal on December 27th with
his wife and children by his side. He was dearly loved by his
wife of 50 years, Diane
(HICKMAN.) He was the loving and loved
father of Jeffrey (Kara), Andrea (Rike) and Laurie (Seanna),
doting grandfather to Devin and Emmett, and cherished uncle and
grand-uncle to many.
An ardent environmentalist, he cared deeply for the planet and
instilled a love of nature in his children. He was a founding
member of Memphremagog Conservation. Peter enjoyed music, skiing,
sailing, tennis and travel. He had a zest for life and an inquisitive
mind. Peter loved meeting and connecting with people of all ages.
He was General Manager of the Montreal Gazette from 1968 to 1975 and
Publisher of newspapers in Thunder Bay and Guelph. Prior to the
Gazette, he had careers as a farm boy, a navy fighter pilot,
and Deputy Director of Operation at Expo 67.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Unitarian Church, 5035 de
Maisonneuve Blvd. West, at 2: 00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 2nd.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Memphremagog
Conservation, C.P. 70, Magog, Quebec, J1X 3W7.
