GOETZ,
Peter
Henry (1917-2007)
Beloved dad, grandpa and great-grandpa, passed away on Tuesday,
August 28, 2007 just shy of his 90th birthday. He was born on
September 8, 1917, in Slavgorod, Russia, where he was raised
on a collective farm by his parents, Henry and Justina. He immigrated
to Canada in 1929 along with his parents and his brother Henry.
His baby brother Siegfried was born during the ocean voyage to
Quebec City. The family then settled in the Kitchener-Waterloo
area. Peter attended Kitchener Collegiate Institute where he
met his future wife, Helena
WARKENTIN. In his thirties, Peter
pursued an accounting career with B.F. Goodrich. He was, however,
an avid sportsman, becoming recognized as a 'scratch' golfer
at the Westmount Golf and Country Club. His passion for the arts
eventually eclipsed his interest in sports. By attending Saturday
morning classes at Waterloo College, now Wilfred Laurier University
and joining the Kitchener-Waterloo Society of Artists in 1946,
Peter developed his artistic skills. He also added a daughter
Jean Margot to the family in 1946 and a son, Peter Andrew in
1949. Peter was elected to the Canadian Society of Painters in
Watercolour in 1960 and the Ontario Society of Artists in 1963.
Exhibitions include the National Gallery, Ottawa; the Rotunda
Gallery, London, England; La Scala Gallery, Florence, Italy
the Galleria International, New York City and the Art Gallery
of Ontario. During his seventy plus years as a respected Kitchener-Waterloo
Artist he received numerous rewards and accolades and was a respected
member of the community. His work is in the collection of Her
Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the City of Waterloo, the Kitchener-Waterloo
Art Gallery, the London Regional Art Gallery, the National Club
in Toronto, the Universities of Guelph, Waterloo and Wilfred
Laurier and many, many private homes. Peter was predeceased by
his parents, his brother Henry and his wife Helena. He is survived
by his daughter Jean (David)
HOOVER, his son Peter (Louella)
GOETZ and his brother Siegfried (Corinne)
GOETZ. He will be greatly
missed by his long time friend and companion Dora Melville
STEPHENS.
He is also survived by his grandchildren Jennifer (Garry)
MacLEAN,
Oliver (Alpena)
HOOVER and Travis
HOOVER, as well as his great-grandchildren
Megan and Lyssa
MacLEAN and Alexander and Stephan
HOOVER.
There
are many nieces and nephews. A viewing will be held at the Erb and
Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, on Friday
from 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Redeemer Lutheran
Church, 78 John St. W., Waterloo, Saturday, September 1, 2007
11 a.m. Interment will follow at the Parkview Cemetery. If Friends
so desire, memorial tributes may be made to Redeemer Lutheran
Church, Canadian Cancer Society or the Lung Association, all
of which he supported and these can be arranged through the funeral
home, 519-745-8445 or www.erbgood.com.
