EATON, Nancy Leigh " Snubby" (née GOSSAGE)
Beloved daughter of the late Leigh McCarthy GOSSAGE and Brookes Ferrar GOSSAGE, succumbed to the lingering and unforgiving lung disease Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease at Granite Place, Toronto on August 7, 2007 in her 82nd year. Snubby was tragically pre-deceased by her cherished only daughter, Nancy (Tiger) Alice EATON, on January 21, 1985. Snubby was a loving sister to David and Michael GOSSAGE and is fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews Jane JANSON, Diana FLOCK, Paul GOSSAGE, Susan BELL, Valerie CROOK and Graeme GOSSAGE, as well as an extended family of admiring cousins. She is also survived by her beloved poodle 'Poppy' and by a number of extremely close Friends and caregivers, particularly Dr. Gerald COOK, whose love and unfailing support over the many years brought her immeasurable comfort and Snubby's many devoted caregivers, Maria Barcelos, Rhonda Castro, Myrna Loman, Evelyn Ogalesco, Magda Gombos, Melinda Gombos and Janice Auld. She was once a member of the Women's Royal Canadian Naval Service and had varied interests, insights and opinions (always to be considered seriously). She was honest, frank and funny. Her bright spark and determination helped her survive the darkest of hours and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Heartfelt thanks are extended to the many other special Friends, physicians, nurses and caregivers who devoted themselves to Snubby's care and well-being, especially as she became increasingly incapacitated. In accordance with her wishes, Snubby's ashes will be buried with Tiger in the family plot at Mount Pleasant cemetery and there will not be a public funeral. A reception for family and Friends will be held at The Badminton and Racquet Club, 25 St. Clair Ave. W. on Thursday, September 6 at 1: 00 p.m. Remembrances may be made to the Asthma and Airways Centre at the Toronto Western Hospital (Respiratory Division) (in honour of Doctor Kenneth Chapman), the IBD Fellowship Fund at The Sunnybrook Foundation (in honour of Doctor Fred Saibil) or Toronto Botanical Garden (in honour of Susan and Geoffrey Dyer). Condolences and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.

STEVENSON, Mary R. (née FLOYD)
Suddenly after a brief illness on Monday, September 17, 2007 at Saint Michael's Hospital in her 90th year, after a Muskoka summer surrounded by all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren (and dogs). Mary, the beautiful and dearly loved wife of Harry (d. 1999) for 61 years, adored mother of Cynthia CARSLEY (Scott MARTIN), Alice COOPER (Douglas), Douglas STEVENSON (Sonia) and Leigh Anne STEVENSON. Grandmother of Louis CARSLEY (Susanne,) Andrew CARSLEY, Douglas CARSLEY (Penny), Steve WALKER (Tracy), Todd WALKER (Tatjana), Joshua WALKER (Devorah), George COOPER, Rob STEVENSON (Cynthia,) Monique STEVENSON, and John Stevenson TAMES. Great-grandmother of Timothy, Reed, Eden, Nicola, Oscar, Carson and Boaz. Beloved sister of Frank FLOYD and Ruth SMITH. Predeceased by her brother Richard FLOYD.
Mary will be long honoured, remembered and dearly missed by her family and Friends everywhere. Mary and Harry's life together, living in Toronto, Muskoka, Coral Gables, Naples, Barbados, New York, Athens, London and Ottawa gave them the opportunity to make extraordinary Friends -- whom they treasured.
Mary had deep commitments to Christ Church Deer Park, The Cradleship Creche, Belmont House, and the Church of the Kettles. She was the conservator and doyenne of the Stevenson family cottage. At her happiest, she was sitting on her deck (with Harry) in Muskoka, notebook in hand, surrounded by the activities and perambulations of countless boats, dogs, and her beloved family. Writing was always close to her heart, and in her last eight years she never passed a day without setting pen to paper. Her book "The Church of the Kettles, Muskoka" published in her 86th year was the highlight of her writing career. Still to be published is her book on the history of Belmont House.
On her last night with us she recited a poem she wrote:
Muskoka -- By the way:
If ever in the night you hear,
The dove-soft whistle
of a northbound train,
Remember all the summer years
We loved, we loved and laughed
and know that now
Though wrapped in shrouds
of dream filled sleep
we hear it still.
A service will be held at Christ Church Deer Park, 1570 Yonge St. (at Heath St.) on Friday, September 21 at 11 a.m. Remembrances can be sent on behalf of Mary to Belmont House and Christ Church Deer Park.

Grandmother of Louis CARSLEY (Susanne,) Andrew CARSLEY, Douglas CARSLEY (Penny), Steve WALKER (Tracy), Todd WALKER (Tatjana), Joshua WALKER (Devorah), George COOPER, Rob STEVENSON (Cynthia,) Monique STEVENSON, and John Stevenson TAMES. Great-grandmother of Timothy, Reed, Eden, Nicola, Oscar, Carson, Beck and Boaz.
A service has been held at Christ Church Deer Park, 1570 Yonge St. (at Heath St.) on Friday, September 21 at 11 a.m. Remembrances can be sent on behalf of Mary to Belmont House and Christ Church Deer Park.
