Evans (1948-2007)
Michael ENZLE,
Ph.
D., was born in Charleston, West Virginia,
U.S.A. on May 5, 1948 and passed away September 26, 2007 at the
Edmonton General Hospital from a brain tumour diagnosed in October 2006.
Michael, a dedicated teacher and mentor, served as a faculty
member in the Department of Psychology at the University of Alberta
for 30 years, where his academic research focused on voluntary
consent, privacy issues, and power relationships. In 2004, he
was appointed full-time Director of the University's newly-created
Human Research Protections Office. Michael contributed to the
development and implementation of research ethics boards on campus
as well as the University Committee on Human Research Ethics.
He chaired the Education Committee of the National Council on
Ethics in Human Research and was a member of the Health Canada
Research Ethics Board and the Society for Experimental Social
Psychology. He was appointed as Chair of the Canadian Institutes
of Health Research Stem Cell Oversight Committee in 2003. Michael
is survived by his beloved wife, Monique
MARTINEAU; his mother,
Mrs.
Jean
Enzle
HOGAN of Wapakoneta, Ohio; his brother Mark D.
(Shirley) ENZLE of New Bremen, Ohio, as well as nieces and nephews.
Michael was predeceased by his father, Bill C.
ENZLE and his
stepfather Harold E.
HOGAN.
