GRANT,
Doreen
Violet (née
COWAN) (February 21, 1924-June 3, 2007)
In her 84th year, as a result of a debilitating stroke, Doreen
passed away surrounded by her family and under the compassionate
care of the staff at Sunnybrook Hospital. Even though she was
paralyzed and without speech, Doreen was able to communicate
expressions of her love to the members of her family and Friends
at her bedside with a smile and a squeeze of the hand. She was
predeceased in 1983 by her husband of over 40 years, William
(Bill) A. GRANT, an executive of Philips Electronics. She leaves
behind her family: daughter Margaret, daughter Karen (Larry
JACKSON,)
daughter-in-law Carol
GRANT and son Hugh (Sheri
PURCELL.)
She
is lovingly remembered by her four grandchildren, Scott (Liz
PLATTS), Tracey (Dave
PENDER), Joni
BRUNTON (Andrew
LAMORE),
and Kate JACKSON; and one great-grandchild, Jessica
MacDONALD
and many beloved nieces and nephews. Her two remaining brothers,
Bert COWAN
(Sue) of Vancouver and George
COWAN (Lena) of Port
Colborne also mourn her passing. She is predeceased by her siblings:
Het NURSE,
Boyd
COWAN and Mary
JOHNSON. Doreen remained vigorous,
vibrant and independent until her stroke. She lived in her own
home, carefully tended her own gardens and played bridge with
a number of groups. 'Granny' was a welcome and active participant
in the lives of her children and their families. The day of the
stroke she was taking pleasure in the warm spring sun from her
seat on the front porch swing of her home. Through her life Doreen
was an active force in everything in which she became involved.
Through the fifties and sixties, summers at the 'Lake of Two
Rivers' cottage meant all the Algonquin Park staff knew her by
name. She was also active in the Progressive Conservative Party
at both the federal and provincial levels, participating in many
election and leadership campaigns. Following cremation, a visitation
will be held at the Pine Hills Visitation, Chapel and Reception
Centre, 625 Birchmount Road, Toronto (416-267-8229) on Sunday,
June 10, 2007 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Memorial Celebration of

Passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer. Rita was with
her children, Ted (Connie), Dianne (Michel) and Louise (Bill),
until the end, where they spent hours listening to the Big Band
Music of the 40's and Scottish Piper tunes. Rita was a member
of the KW Scottish Country Dancing Club which she enjoyed and
was passionate about until she no longer could remember the steps,
but always enjoyed the sound of the music until the end. She
will be missed by her grandchildren Jason, Justin, Scott, Tanya,
Andrea and Tess and her closest friend Skeeter Budd. Rita retired
from the University of Waterloo, where she showed her skill of
working with Budgets, but best known for working with people.
Rita enjoyed golfing, curling, dancing, bridge and especially visiting
with her brothers (Jimmy and Peter) and her sisters (Jean, Dot,

By request of Rita, a Cremation was completed and a private family
remembrance was held June 16, at the home of her son, 422 MacKay
Court, Burlington, Ontario L7L 5M8, where a Scottish Piper played
for the enjoyment of all as we lifted a glass to the wonderful

FERRIS,
Francis
Grant
(October 31, 1940-December 23, 2007)
Passed away on Sunday December 23, 2007 at the Saugeen Memorial
Hospital in Southampton. Francis (Grant) of Port Elgin was in
his 68th year. Grant was an enthusiastic outdoorsman who worked
diligently over his lifetime to protect and preserve the environment.
One of his great loves was fishing on the Saugeen River where
his motto was “catch and release”. Another love was motorcycles,
and he spent many happy days riding his Gold Wing along county
roads with his motorcycle buddies from Guelph. He was a proud
member of the Grey Bruce Motorcycle Touring Club, Outdoor Writers
of Canada, the Sydenham Sportsman Association, Ontario Federation
of Anglers and Hunters, Lake Huron Fishing Club, Friends of MacGregor
Point Provincial Park, Blue Ridge Sportman's Club, Ducks Unlimited,
National Wild Turkey Federation, co-founder and writer for the
Grey/Bruce Outdoors Webpage, and many others. But his greatest
love was for his family. He will be forever missed by his wife
of 38 years, Gloria
(FARYON,) and his children Frank, Russ (Manie)
of Milton, Lara
INNEO
(Vito) of Guelph, and Alyssa (Shawn
MacPHERSON)
of Cambridge. He was a proud and loving Papa to Olyvia
INNEO
and Talia FERRIS. He is also survived by his dear sisters Dianne
DOEKES
(Charles) and Donna
WARNER (Ralph,) nephews Lee and Steve
COWTAN, Daryl
WARNER, and nieces Cheryl
KLIMM and Jen
WARNER.
Also surviving are the many lifelong Friends he loved as brothers
and sisters. He truly cherished them. Grant was predeceased by
his parents Frank Cyril
FERRIS and Olive Ada
COLLINGRIDGE, and
also an infant daughter, Jessica. Cremation has taken place and
a private committal will take place at Woodland Cemetery, Guelph,
at a later date. If anyone wishes, donations can be made to any
of the environmental groups listed above (cards available at
the funeral home 519-822-4731 or send condolences at www.gilbertmacintyreandson.com).
A battle bravely fought, a sense of humour that never quit, and
a story for every occasion. Ride free now, Grant.
