ARTHUR,
Clarence "
Leslie," P.Eng.
(June 21, 1913-July 24, 2007)
With great sorrow the family of Les announces his unexpected
passing. He died peacefully and without pain from a sudden heart
attack at the Oakville Hospital. Les is survived by his loving
wife 'Jo' of 59 years, son Bryan (Ruth), daughter Karen (Doug),
grandchildren Kimberley (Wesley), Sean, Joch, Boone, Clint and
Sarah and great-grandchildren Seth and Dallas. Les was born in
Haileybury, Ontario. He attended the Haileybury School of Mines
from 1927-1931. He worked for 10 years as a designer draftsman
- 7 years at Kirkland Lake and 3 years in Peru. He graduated
as an Electrical Engineer in 1944 with honours. He then joined
the army and was discharged in 1946. He attended Michigan State
University and received his Civil Engineering degree, thereafter.
In 1948 he married the love of his life and the newlyweds settled
in S.W. Africa for 6 years. Both children were born there. In
1955 he moved the family to Murdockville, Quebec for 2 years.
His career then led him and his family to Brazil for 4 years.
He brought his family back to Canada to Oakville, Ontario in
1961. Les and Jo set up a private consulting company, Leslie
Engineering in the early 1960's. He retired in the early 1990's.
His career allowed him to experience and travel the 4 corners
of the globe. Les was an accomplished finishing carpenter and
had a passion for boating. He was robust and healthy his entire
life. An Irish doctor once told him that he has the intestinal
fortitude of Davy Crockett. He split firewood by hand well into
his 80's and enjoyed long walks almost every day. He was an avid
reader and loved the summer heat and suntanning. He said he was
a tropical boy at heart. Les was a loyal and loving husband and
was Jo's rock throughout her health challenges. At Les's request
cremation has taken place and a private family service was held.
