KENDALL, Edith, Marion (MCINNES/MCINNIS)
Edith Marion (MCINNES/MCINNIS) KENDALL was born and raised on the family farm August 31, 1915 on the 4th Line of Osprey Township, the eldest daughter of Hector and Mabel (Dolly) MCINNES/MCINNIS. Being raised during the depression, everyone was expected to pitch in and help, Edith as well as the rest of the children. Margaret, Duncan, Eachun, Jack, Donald, Mamie, Lois and Archie all did their share which contributed to their having a close, strong and hard working family.
Edith went to Hamilton at the age of 16 to work as a housekeeper for two lady teachers and their brother, earning room and board and $15 a month, which was often sent home to her parents. Edith then went to Toronto to work for another family, but after a year she returned to the local area to work in Harry Sipprell's General Store in Badjeros, where she worked for many years as clerk and later became the manager of the local post office in the store.
In 1945 she met Mervyn KENDALL, they courted for several years and were married in the McIntyre Church on October 2, 1948 and moved to the Kendall family farm. Edith was a member of McIntyre United Church and worked hard and untiring for the Sunday school, church, young people's groups and the cemetery.
Everyone loved Edith; she was always involved in family and with eight siblings she was always needed and very much appreciated. She had no children of her own, but had over 30 nieces and nephews and many Friends. Her home was always open and she loved to host family get togethers, bridal and baby showers, as well as church meetings. The McIntyre United Church Women was often called to cater at weddings, and their fowl and stew suppers were famous, not to be missed events.
In November 1971, Mervyn passed away and in 1976 Edith sold the family farm. She had a new home built in the village of McIntyre, beside the church, where she continued to entertain and host many of the church activities. Often during the winter months the church service was held in her living room, rather than stoking up the church furnace. When her mother Mabel had her stroke, the McInnes family were once again called on to assist, as Mabel, sole owner of the Nursing Home in Collingwood was no longer able to manage the nursing home and as Edith had no children, a lot of the responsibility fell on her shoulders. Once the business was sold, her mother remained bedridden and moved to her apartment in Collingwood. Edith and the rest of the family gave freely of their time to care for her until she passed away in 1986.
Edith's interests, in addition to family, included cooking, baking, gardening, figure skating events and travelling. She travelled from the East Coast to the West Coast of Canada and to far away places like Scotland and Florida.
As time grew on, Edith's health failed and she decided to move to Collingwood as a resident at the Bay Haven Retirement Lodge in 1998, and in 2000 she moved into the nursing home at Bay Haven.
The staff at the nursing home described Edith as a perfect lady who spoke kindly of all, and who always had a smile and enjoyed being a part of everything around her. In the 2001 Spring Edition of the Bay Haven newsletter, Edith's life story was featured under the resident spotlight where they described her as loved by all and a joy to have with them. Ever the hostess, she hosted a weekiy "get-together" in her room with tea and goodies for her Friends and visitors. "Her advice to our readers is to enjoy your family and always remember how important they are to you."

Passed away peacefully at Lee Manor in Owen Sound on Friday, June 29, 2007. In her 91st year. The cherished wife of Frank GIVEN, of Mar, for 71 years. Dearly loved mother of Ann and her husband Ted and Bob GIVEN, all of London, Gordon and his wife Janet, of Sackville, Nova Scota, and Dale GIVEN, of Victoria, British Columbia Loving grandmother of Michelle, Leah and her husband Steve, Michael, Mark and his wife Anna, Lisa, Travis, Meaghan and her husband Mark. Loving great-grandmother of Kailey, Curtis, Madison, Seth, Jake, Julia, Luke, Katelynne and Asa. Dear sister of Marjorie LEMCKE of Marathon, and Blanche BELROSE of Tobermory. Predeceased by a grand_son, Matthew, by two sisters Beatrice KENDALL and Elsie CAUDLE, and by ten brothers Victor, Russell, Norman, Raymond, Gordon, Charles, Clive, Walter, George and Elmer. Family and Friends are invited to a memorial service at the Wiarton Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses: (on Highway 6, just south of Wiarton) on July 14th at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Alzheimer's Society would be appreciated by the family. On October 12, 2007 at the age of 95, Ruth BEAL passed away at home, alert and engaged in life to the very last. Predeceased in 1957 by her husband, Major George W. BEAL, MC of the 48th Highlanders and her brother Roy WILSON. Loving mother of George William (Nancy.) Proud grandmother of David (Celia) and Robert. Retired from Confederation Life as Manager Group Life Insurance, avid golfer and bridge enthusiast. A memorial service will be held at Saint_John's Anglican Church, York Mills, 19 Don Ridge Rd. at 2: 00 p.m. on Monday October 29. A reception will follow immediately after the service at the home of Geordie and Nancy BEAL. Private interment to follow. Thanks from the family are extended to the doctors, nurses and staff at Sunnybrook Health Sciences, Odette Cancer Centre and to Doctor David KENDALL of the Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care. HERZ, Herman Carl
95 years young, died October 27th, 2007, in Toronto, after a long and prosperous life. Born July 23, 1912 in Elmira, Ontario, he went to a one room grade school learning German as his primary language. In 1929, Herm moved to Toronto, entering the College of Engineering (Mining) at the University of Toronto, graduating in 1933. He joined the Ventures Mining Company which took him to Malartic, Quebec. It was here, where after marrying Isabelle in 1935, he brought his new bride to her first home, a room above the assay office. In 1957, he moved his family back to Toronto where he worked for Falconbridge Nickel Mines until his retirement in 1967. He is remembered for his keen mind, his fondness for Chopin, the multitude of prize winning roses on Blythwood, but mostly, for his gentle loving and kindness as a father and husband. Surviving are his beloved wife of 72 years, Isabelle Margaret TEMPLE of Toronto; son William David of Toronto, Ontario, daughter Marion Louise of Phoenix, Arizona., and eight grandchildren, David, Robert, Lauren, Taryn, Vanessa HERZ of Toronto; Christopher, Gregory, Rebecca KENDALL and great-grandchild, Asher William of Phoenix. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 31, at Dresinger Funeral Home in Elmira. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Toronto Hospital for Sick Children. HOPE, Ying L.K. (September 18, 1923-November 12, 2007)
Passed away peacefully at Sunnybrook Hospital, Palliative Care Unit at the age of 84. Ying is survived by his devoted wife Audrey, former wife Alice, children Jim, Judy (Doug), Michael (Pam), Madeline (Dean), stepchildren Catherine, Gary (Kathleen), Ron (Diane), brother Mun, and his 12 loving grandchildren. Born in Victoria, his career began in aviation and he was one of the engineers who worked on the Avro Arrow. Later, he established a respected engineering firm and became the first Chinese Canadian elected to the Toronto Board of Education serving as trustee and Chairman of the Board. He served as Alderman on the Toronto and Metropolitan City Councils from 1969 to 1988. Upon retiring from politics, he took up a new career in real estate and then founded the Chinese Canadian Conservative Association. He participated in moving the government to redress the wrongs of the Chinese head Tax. The family extends gratitude to Doctor G. MORTON, Doctor D. KENDALL and the compassionate nurses at Sunnybrook Hospital. KNIGHT, Jane Roberta (née JOHNSTON)
Passed away peacefully on Tuesday November 27, 2007. Beloved daughter of the late Robert and Ethel JOHNSTON. She▼ is survived by her devoted husband of 47 years, Harold KNIGHT. Loving mother of Rob (Lisa) and David (Irene). Proud grandmother of Chloe, Ryan, and Eric. She is also survived by her brother Doctor Frank JOHNSTON (wife Terry) and her sister Anne BAILLEE (late husband Charles).
Roberta always took care of those around her and was a devoted wife, mother, aunt and grandmother. Roberta pursued a career as a teacher (primary and adult English as a Second Language) and taught in New York and Toronto. She also took a number of years off to be a "stay-at-home" Mom. Roberta enjoyed being part of Eglinton St. George's United Church and being a community volunteer.
Roberta had many interests including a strong appreciation of the arts. Most of all, she enjoyed playing duplicate bridge at the Granite Club, golfing at the Toronto Ladies Club and spending time at the family cottage in Haliburton.
Roberta was blessed with many lifelong Friends with whom she shared many wonderful experiences.
Roberta battled cancer valiantly for over two years with a positive attitude and strong determination. During this period, she maintained a strong spirit and good quality of life.
The family will receive Friends at the Morley Bedford Funeral Home, 159 Eglinton Avenue West (2 stoplights west of Yonge St.) on Saturday December 1st at 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 pm.
Memorial service to be held at Eglinton St. George's United Church, 35 Lytton Boulevard, Toronto, on Monday December 3rd at 11am.
A special thanks to Doctor KENDALL for compassionate home care, as well as the staff at Mount Sinai Hospital, for their caring dedication, support, and encouragement.

In her 97th year on Sunday, September 16, 2007. Blema MILLER, dear wife of the late Abe MILLER. Cherished mother and mother-in-law of Jack and Mary Jane MILLER, and Bob and the late Hélène KENIGSBERG. Remembered fondly by her grandchildren Alan and Shawna, Dan and Paula, Michael and as a loving great-grandmother to Abigail, Ivy and Hunter. Dear sister of the late Yetta INSKY, Fay HYMAN, and Sydney COOPER. Born in Montreal December 15, 1910 to Asher and Annie COOPER, Blema was a pioneer, the first Jewish High School teacher in Montreal. She and Abe led very active lives in Cornwall, both within the Beth El Synagogue and in the larger community. After Abe's death she moved back to Montreal. A born teacher, she taught mathematics until she retired, then tutored high school students into her mid 80's. A fine bridge player and willing volunteer of her time and talents, she had a wide circle of Friends in Montreal and Toronto, and latterly the residents and staff at the Balmoral Club as well as a very special group of caregivers. She will be sorely missed by many people. Loving husband of Rita (KELLY,) his wife of 46 years, devoted father of John, Patricia, Kevin and Robert, adoring grandfather of Andrew, Hannah and Rebekah and wonderful father-in-law of Gary and Kathleen. Fine brother of Frank. Peacefully, comfortably and with grace, Jack passed away on Friday August 24, 2007 at Markham Stouffville Hospital, in his 76th year. Jack's sense of humour, family and responsibility will be greatly missed by all who knew him, from Friends and family where he was born and grew up on Parnell Street in Peterborough, to those who shared his retirement years in Markham. Jack's patient and considerate demeanour remains a blessing for all he touched and his love of life was never so strong as when he spent time with Friends and family, be it entertaining at home, travelling to be with his children and grandchildren or participating in family gatherings and reunions. Jack's enduring spirit and character will remain a part of his family and loved ones forever. Dr. E. Jack (Retired Dentist) at Groves Memorial Community Hospital, Fergus, on Tuesday, October 2, 2007. Doctor E. Jack KENNEDY of Mount Forest in his 83rd year. Beloved father of Nancy (Kyle LAWRENCE,) Karen (John MURPHY), Pam, Jack (Janice MILLER) and Sue (Sean HARVEY.) Much loved grandfather of Craig, Steven, Aaron and Laura ZACHER and John MURPHY. Proud great-grandfather of Cole and Caitlin ZACHER. Lovingly remembered by his brother Doctor Douglas KENNEDY (Eila,) sister Norma DANYLUCK (Ralph,) nieces and nephews Warren, Sharon, Terry, Carla and Kent. Predeceased by parents William Garnet "Ken" KENNEDY and Hazel (HENRY) KENNEDY. Jack was born in Flesherton and was raised in Dundalk where he excelled in academics. After graduating from high school he continued his education at the University of Toronto, where he graduated with a Doctorate of Dental Surgery. Shortly after getting married, Jack moved to Mount Forest where his dedication and compassion to his profession earned him the respect of his colleagues and the community. Jack was also an accomplished track and field athlete, hockey player and golfer. Jack earned the opportunity to compete in the Ontario Athletic Leadership Camp where he won numerous medals. His love of hockey and competitive spirit allowed him to experience success in hockey, scoring a record 13 goals in only two periods of one game! Jack enjoyed many rounds of golf with his family and Friends and again proved to be a competitive player. Jack's name was engraved on several trophies at Pike Lake where he proudly earned the title of "Club Champion" for many years. Jack's sense of humour was evident in his jokes and cartoons. He was a professional cartoonist whose cartoons where published in several newspapers across Canada. Dad's great sense of humour, friendly supportive and loving personality will be treasured forever by his family and Friends. Good luck Dad! Friends called at the Hendrick Funeral Home, Mount Forest on Saturday, October 6 from 10 a.m. until time of the service at 11 a.m. Reception followed at the Mount Forest United Church. HUNSPERGER, Robert Allan
Robert Allan HUNSPERGER, of Hanover, passed away at Hanover and District Hospital, Hanover on Saturday, October 27, 2007. He was 69.
Robert was born in Owen Sound. He was the son of the late Melville and Viola (ARISS) HUNSPERGER. He was employed with Knechtel Furniture and Nordic Furniture until the time of his retirement.
Survived by his wife and best friend Shirley, daughter Kimberley (DALE) BECKER of Ayton, sons Randall (Debby) HUNSPERGER of Kitchener, Rob (Wendy) HUNSPERGER of R.R.#3, Hanover, grandchildren Jocelyn, Candace, Graeme, Jordann, Elias, Seth and Sadie. Also survived by his sister-in-law Doreen (Dean) PAGE of Waterloo and their family Nancy, Gwen, Tracey and Cathy. Predeceased by his parents Melville and Viola HUNSPERGER and father and mother-in-law Walter and Lenore KENNEDY.
Visitation was held at Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover, on Monday, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. where a Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, October 30, 2007 at 11 a.m. Interment in Hanover Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Doug REAY, Don REAY, Larry HEIPEL, Jack WEIS, Dennis YAECK and Dean PAGE.
Memorial donations to the Kidney Foundation, Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Hanover and District Hospital Foundation were appreciated as expressions of sympathy.

A Celebration of Dorothy's Life was held at the Durham Baptist Church on Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock. Pastor Robert LITTLE and Pastor David CLARKE officiated. Joyce REAY played the organ. The congregation sang, “Amazing Grace” and “Room at the Cross for You.” Tributes were given by Glen TORRIE, Glen McKENZIE and Valerie CLARK. Sharon KENNEDY sang two solos and The Gospel Couriers sang, “My Shepherd is Leading Me Home” and “What a Day That Will Be.&rdquo
The pall bearers were Harold TORRIE, Arthur TORRIE, Glen TORRIE, Brian TORRIE, Tom MARSHALL and Harold McKENZIE.
Committal Service and interment was held at Maplewood Cemetery, Varney. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations to the Durham Baptist Church Building Fund would be appreciated by the family.

KENNEDY, Mervin Charles
Suddenly, in the company of his family, on Saturday, June 16, 2007 at the age of 58. Loving husband of Kathy, of R.R.#6 Markdale and father of Steve (Leanne) of Williamsford and Kelly (Stephen) BRAKE of Thompson, Manitoba. The light of his life were his 5 grandchildren, Jarrid, Malcom, Alexandria, Gillyan and Kaity. Survived by sisters Audrey (Bernie) McCASKIE of Markdale, Ruby (Chuck) BALYK of Thorold, Dolly (John) DAVIS of Burlington, Brothers Jack KENNEDY (Ruby) and Gerald KENNEDY (Beryl) all of Bracebridge, and brothers-in-law Jack BEVAN of Hamilton, and Bill BEVAN of Calgary, Alberta. Predeceased by his parents Earl and Ella, brother Sonny and nephews Darwin and Jamie. Merv was 'Mr. Fix-It' to many who knew him. His first love was his family, followed by hunting, fishing, horses, camping, Florida and his motor-bike. A donation to your children's or grandchildren's R.E.S.P. (education fund) would have made him smile. Passed away at Saint Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Thursday, January 11, 2007 at the age of 101. Alma SEARLE, Born in Ripley Ontario, she moved to Saint Thomas with her family as a young girl. She became an elementary school teacher spending most of her 45 years of teaching in Saint Thomas. She touched many lives with her kindness, positive attitude, encouragement, patience, sense of humor and was dearly loved by her family and many others. She joined First United Church in Saint Thomas and was a lifetime member and sang in the choir most of her adult life. Many prizes were won by her 3rd grade student choirs. Other activities included tennis and skating as a young woman and later participation in Little Theater, Retired Teachers of Ontario and RHO Chapter of Delta Gamma Society of London. She was preceded in death by her parents William Gordon SEARLE and Jane Atkey SEARLE, sisters Elda VOSATLKA, (Frank,) Erma MacDONALD, (Alan,) brother Lloyd SEARLE, (Dallas MacKENZIE) and 2nd wife Doreen REEB. Passed away peacefully, on Saturday, June 9th, 2007 at Markham Stouffville Hospital in her 92nd year. Predeceased by her parents George and Gertrude HENDREN, her beloved husband Doctor Percival Musgrave YOUNG, her sister Ivah BRAND and her brothers Don and Ralph HENDREN. Devoted mother of Ian (Shirley) of Toronto, Roger (Kate KENNEDY) of Sudbury, and Heather (Pat PARKER) of Espanola and New Liskeard. Loving grandmother of Katherine (Ashley ADAMSON,) Karen (Todd JASIE,) Genevieve (Geoff NEWTON,) Brian (Karen,) Bradley (Jennifer LAVINIA,) and David (Michelle.) Proud great-grandmother of Emma, Megan, Tyler, Cassidy, Samuel and Eva. Mary was born on May 16, 1916 in Lakefield, Ontario. She graduated as a registered nurse from Kingston General Hospital in 1937 and married her beloved Percy in 1940. She moved to Sturgeon Falls, Ontario where Percy practiced as a general practitioner physician until 1977, when they retired to Toronto. Mary spent her life helping others and was involved in many community activities. Mary's greatest undertaking was raising her three children. She supported them in every way and always kept communications open. In more recent years she was a wonderful grandmother and great-grandmother. Mary had boundless energy and a great sense of humour that rubbed off positively on everyone around her. She loved nature and was the driving force in the family to purchase a boat, then land and a cottage on Lake Nipissing where the family still spends many of its happiest moments. This has kindled a deep love and appreciation of the out of doors in her children and grandchildren. Mary will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She touched so many lives. She will always be in our hearts with great affection. A memorial service to celebrate Mary's life will be held at the Humphrey Funeral Home - A.W. Miles Chapel, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Eglinton Avenue East), at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 21st. Mac, son of Samuel Jacob KENNEDY and Mary "Minnie" URQUHART of Cannington, Ontario, and grand_son of Robert KENNEDY and Jane TRAVIS of Uxbridge, Ontario, beloved Husband of the late Eva Juanita McMASTER of Montreal and Brockville, loving father of Doctor Samuel Michael KENNEDY, Prosthodontist, and his wife Carole GUERTIN of Montreal, dear grandfather to Jenny KENNEDY, Samuel MALCOLM and Charles Gregory KENNEDY, predeceased by his sisters, Donalda, Reta, Jean and brother Erskine. Passed away peacefully at 88 at the Grace Hospital in Toronto on July 2, 2007. Merlie joins her husband and soul mate, Gordon, but will be sadly missed by her family and many dear Friends. She▲ is predeceased by her parents, John Elijah and Mary (JOHNSTON) BUCKINGHAM, Gordon, and her sister Shirley BUCKINGHAM. Loving mother to John, Donald (Heather COLEMAN,) Douglas, (Cheryl GORMAN) and Steven (Tina.) Adoring grandmother to Erin (Greig LOVE,) Patrick (Kristie), Jordan, Joshua, Caitlin, Emily, Laura and Julia, Tara, (Charles MEARS), Michael and Ryan. Mother-in-law to Kathy KENNEDY and Ellen POMER. Merlie was born in Maxwell, Ontario on October 12th, 1918, and graduated from the University of Toronto in 1939 where she met and was courted by Gordon COLLINS. While Gordon was overseas during the war in England with the Canadian Dental Corps, Merlie worked as a social worker at the Children's Aid Society in Brockville. On a home leave, Gordon and Merlie were married on August 1st, 1942. In 1945, they settled in Ottawa where Gordon started a dental practice and they lived in the same home until Gordon's death in 2001. They took many wonderful trips to Europe, the Middle East, South America and across Canada to visit Donald and family in Alberta. Merlie was an avid bridge player and hostess, a dedicated volunteer at the Ottawa Civic Hospital, and active member of Parkdale United Church, and a member of the University Women's Club. A celebration of Merlie's life will be held at St. Philip's Anglican Church 31 St. Philip's Road, Etobicoke on Saturday, July 14th, 2007 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations to a charity of your choice or to the Art and Margaret Davis Endowment Fund, c/o the Ottawa Hospital Foundation 737 Parkdale Ave, 1st floor, Ottawa, Ontario K1Y 1J8 would be appreciated. Jeannie Louise BURTON, 48, died peacefully at her country home near Bellaire, Michigan, surrounded by family and best Friends, on Sunday, August 26, 2007, following a short but brave battle against cancer. A graduate of Havergal College, in Toronto, Ontario and of the University of Guelph, in Guelph, Ontario, Jeannie was Associate Professor in the Department of Animal Science at Michigan State University, in East Lansing, Michigan, specializing in Dairy Cattle Immunophysiology and Immunogenetics. Jeanne was a member of the Dairy Science Association, the American Association of Veterinary Immunologists and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Jeanne published over 70 peer-reviewed articles on bovine immunology and was a frequent reviewer for Canadian and American scientific granting agencies. She devoted her life to loving her family and Friends, mentoring her students and collaborating with colleagues throughout the world. Jeannie was born on August 12, 1959, in Toronto, Ontario, daughter of the late Edgar (Ted) and Jane Cody BURTON. She leaves her beloved husband Paul COUSSENS of Lansing. Michigan, and her faithful canine companions Bradley, Sammy and Cody. She is also survived by her step-children, Matt COUSSENS (Sarah,) Maria O'ROURKE (Rob,) Mark COUSSENS (Chelsea), Michael COUSSENS, and Merrick COUSSENS, all of the United States, and by her sister Nancy BURTON and brothers Lieutenant Colonel Greg BURTON (Pauline DALLAIN) and David BURTON, all of Canada. She was the loving aunt of James and Lyndsay BURTON, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Charlie BURTON of Cookstown, Ontario, and Sarah KENNEDY of Banff, Alberta. Megan KENNY was a glass sculptor, kiln-cast glass teacher and writer. On December 15, 2007 at Oakville Trafalgar Hospital due to complications produced by a previous unexpected cardiac arrest. Megan was the beloved daughter of Doctor David and Judith KENNY and the sister of Sarah KENNY all of Toronto. Predeceased by grandparents Molly and Fred BEALE of Saint Thomas, Ontario and Anne and Jim KENNY of Aylmer, Ontario. Megan was a graduate of the art program at Northern Secondary School Toronto and Sheridan College School of Craft, Art and Design Oakville. Megan was a founding partner of Glen Williams Glass Collective 1995-2000. She was currently teaching kiln-cast glass at Sheridan College. Megan has shown her glass sculpture in Canada, United Kingdom, Germany and Denmark and has published in Contemporary Canadian Glass and Glass Gazette. Megan taught glass courses at Red Deer College and Haliburton School of the Arts. Megan loved her art and loved teaching. She taught with a laid-back passion that allowed her students to test their ideas without fear of flying. There will be no funeral service. A Spring 2008 reception will take place in Oakville.
