It is with deep sorrow and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Apolonia 'Pola', peacefully and quietly in her 88th year. After a brief but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, she succumbed to its effects early in the morning of Thursday, September 06, 2007 at York Central Hospital. Cherished wife of 57 years to Waclaw MONIK, loving mother of Grace (Kent PARIS) and Dorothy (David BLUE.) Much loved grandma (Babcia) to Connor, Alexander and Matthew. Loving Aunt to the Jastrzembski family. Predeceased by her siblings in Poland - Staszek, Wincenty, Zofia and Marianna. Pola was a woman with strong faith and will be deeply mourned and missed by her extended family in Poland, her many Friends here in Canada, and by the Saint Mary Immaculate Church Choir. Peacefully, after a brief illness, on 12 June 2007, in Portsmouth, England, aged 82. Born in Portsmouth on 10 June 1925, Edwina trained at Salisbury Teachers' College after the war and later graduated from Queen's University (B.A. and M. Ed.). World traveller, cat-lover, and keen gardener, she had a long and eclectic career as a teacher, first in England, then in Ottawa, at various schools in the Kingston area, as Education Officer at the Prison for Women, and overseas in Zambia, in London, as well as in Nigeria and Lesotho. Edwina is survived by Dennis, her husband of 58 years her children Oriel (George MacLENNAN) in Halifax, Megan (David CAMPBELL) in Kingston, Charles (Carol PARKIN) in Glasgow and Mark (Birgit EGGERS) in Berlin; her granddaughters Georgia CAMPBELL, Charlotte EGGERS, and Emilia EGGERS; and her nephew the Rev. Clive CLAPSON (Katie CLAPSON) and her great-nieces Lucy CLAPSON and Cecilia CLAPSON in Scotland. She was predeceased by infant twin grand_sons Benjamin and Daniel CAMPBELL in 1985. A memorial service and interment will take place at noon on 19 July 2007 at the Church of the Resurrection in Drayton, Portsmouth, England, with a reception to follow. In Edwina's remembrance, donations may be made to Domino Theatre in Kingston, to Oxfam Canada, or to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Loving mother of Harold TORRIE and his wife Mabel of Barrie, Phyllis and her husband Harold McKENZIE of Guelph, Leone and her husband Tom MARSHALL of Oro Station, Arthur TORRIE and his wife Marylen of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Glen TORRIE and his wife Gwen of Orillia and Brian TORRIE and his wife Elizabeth of Stayner.
Fondly remembered by her 19 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
Predeceased by her parents Robert and Mary KENNEDY, her brothers: John, Fred, George, Jim, Ken and William KENNEDY; and her sisters: Mabel WALKER, Violet McEWEN and Roberta KENNEDY.
Visitation was held at the McCulloch-Watson Funeral Home, Durham on Monday from 2: 30-4 p.m. and 7-9 pm.
A Celebration of Dorothy's Life was held at the Durham Baptist Church on Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock. Pastor Robert LITTLE and Pastor David CLARKE officiated. Joyce REAY played the organ. The congregation sang, “Amazing Grace” and “Room at the Cross for You.” Tributes were given by Glen TORRIE, Glen McKENZIE and Valerie CLARK. Sharon KENNEDY sang two solos and The Gospel Couriers sang, “My Shepherd is Leading Me Home” and “What a Day That Will Be.&rdquo
The pall bearers were Harold TORRIE, Arthur TORRIE, Glen TORRIE, Brian TORRIE, Tom MARSHALL and Harold McKENZIE.

Peacefully at home with family, our beautiful wife and mother succumbed with grace and dignity after a courageous and feisty battle with carcinoid cancer on Tuesday, October 23, 2007. Lee Anne STANLEY (née THORNTON,) loving wife of Dennis. Loving and caring mother of Jason and Sara and her husband Steve SYMONDS. Daughter of Al THORNTON and his wife Evelyn, of Red Deer, Alberta. Sister of Allan THORNTON and his wife Edie, of Tees, Alberta. Lee Anne had an extensive career of over thirty-seven years with Bell Canada, retiring in 2001 as the manager of operator services in Owen Sound. She gave countless time and effort to local charities and special organizations including as a board member with the Grey Bruce Regional Health Centre, the Grey Bruce Regional Health Centre Foundation and the Arthritis Society. Lee Anne had a love and passion for the Owen Sound Figure Skating Club demonstrated as a skater, teacher and judge. She acted as a past member of the Owen Sound Golf and Country Club and the Grey Granite Club. Passed away on his favourite day of the entire year, December 25, 2007 at the Grey Bruce Health Services in Owen Sound. William Henry CLARK, born July 3, 1922. Loving and devoted husband for twenty-five years of Sheila (née WILSON.) Remembered lovingly by his children Karen LEBLANC and Lionel, Jan and her husband Tom McCUE, Catherine CLARK- ARMSTRONG, Judy PACE and Finn, Bill CLARK and his wife Renee; as well as twelve grandchildren: Sean, Josh, Victoria, Tyler, Matthew, Michael, Emma, Zachary, Nathaniel, Emily, Daniel and Alexa. Whitaker and Company in Peterborough from 1941 to 1956, with the exception of four years, 1942-1946, when he served with the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals in the Second World War. He proudly served in Canada, Great Britain, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. Mr. CLARK left accountancy in 1956 to become Deputy-Clerk of Peterborough for nine years until coming to Owen Sound as City Clerk in 1965. He retired from the position in 1984 after nineteen years of service. A former director of the Owen Sound Rotary Club, Mr. CLARK was also past Treasurer of the Grey Bruce Dufferin Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases Association. He served as an Elder of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Owen Sound for many years. He was also a member of the Grey Granite Club and the Owen Sound Golf and Country Club. He was the Number One fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Blue Jays. From all the grandchildren, thanks for the wonderful memories. “We won't say goodbye, we'll see you again.&rdquo

Jack, a resident of Manitoulin Centennial Manor and a life-long resident of Gore Bay, died Saturday, January 27, 2007 at the age of 83 years.
Jack was born in Ice Lake. He was the son of the late John C. and Mary Ann (BAILEY) WRIGHT. Jack was the Past Master of the Gore Bay Masonic Lodge Branch #472 AFAM, of which he was a member for over 50 years. Jack worked in construction for many years. He was happiest when he was in a truck, ice fishing or on his lawn mower. Dearly beloved husband of Wilda (Atkinson) Wright for over 59 years. Loving and loved father of Doug (Mary), Glen (Marilyn), and Pat (Alan). Loving Poppa to Michael, Aaron, Shelley (best girl in the world), Danny, Cory, Julie and Alicia. Peacefully, At his home on June 15, 2007, surrounded by his family. John was the son of the late Caroline Anne and Howard Allan George FLETCHER. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Jean. Trained as a physician at the University of Toronto, John graduated in 1936. In the early stages of his career John pursued a research career with Charles H. Best, co-discoverer of Insulin. When World War 2 began, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Medical Corps, where he served for five years with distinction, winning the Military Cross and the St. George Cross for his courage during t he Battle of Jelsi in 1943. On his return from Europe in 1945, John returned to medical research with a special interest in pediatric medicine. He felt ever more drawn to the practice of pediatric medicine and in the late 1940s left research to pursue this interest. The family moved to Ottawa in 1956, where, because of health problems, he became a corporate physician with Bell Canada. With his health restored and missing the experience of working with children, he returned to private practice in 1962. He retired in 1986 at the age of 75. He is survived by his three daughters: Mary, Susan and Frances; three sons in law, Robert HUDGINS, John▼ FREEMAN and Edmund CLARK; eight grandchildren, John and Alan RAMUNAS, Delbert, Jean, Hugh and Caroline CLARK, and Lauren and Jessica HUDGINS; as well as five great-grandchildren. Peacefully, At his home on June 15, 2007, surrounded by his family. John was the son of the late Caroline Anne and Howard Allan George FLETCHER. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Jean. Trained as a physician at the University of Toronto, John graduated in 1936. In the early stages of his career John pursued a research career with Charles H. Best, co-discoverer of Insulin. When World War 2 began, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Medical Corps, where he served for five years with distinction, winning the Military Cross and the St. George Cross for his courage during the Battle of Jelsi in 1943. On his return from Europe in 1945, John returned to medical research with a special interest in pediatric medicine. He felt ever more drawn to the practice of pediatric medicine and in the late 1940s left research to pursue this interest. The family moved to Ottawa in 1956, where, because of health problems, he became a corporate physician with Bell Canada. With his health restored and missing the experience of working with children, he returned to private practice in 1962. He retired in 1986 at the age of 75. He is survived by his three daughters: Mary, Susan and Frances; three sons in law, Robert HUDGINS, John▲ FREEMAN and Edmund CLARK; eight grandchildren, John and Alan RAMUNAS, Delbert, Jean, Hugh and Caroline CLARK, and Lauren and Jessica HUDGINS; as well as five great-grandchildren. b. July 9, 1910; died peacefully at Kiwanis Care Home in New Westminster, British Columbia on June 25, 2007, two weeks short of her 97th birthday. She is survived by her loving family, sisters Margaret (Ed) HOGG and Maisie (Charlie) CARNCROSS, nieces and nephews Catherine GUNTER, Bill HOGG, Elizabeth MUNROE, Pat BUNNELL, Gord CARNCROSS, Barbie CARNCROSS and their families; cousins Margaret MANN, Tom STEELE and Marion BRYCE. Tibbie is predeceased by nieces Barbara (HOGG) MacPHEE and Nancy (CARNCROSS) CLARK. At age six, Tibbie emigrated from Scotland with her family, taking up residence in New Westminster, where she lived for most of her life. She will be remembered for her gracious manner, her inquiring mind, and her lively interest in the lives of her family, Friends, and former students. Tibbie began her long teaching career at age 19, in a 1 room schoolhouse on Gabriola Island, moving to Courtney and returning during the war years to teach in New Westminster, where she remained until she retired in 1973. Her determination and love of learning, particularly history, led her to gradually complete both Bachelors and Masters degrees at University of British Columbia. In her active retirement years she continually sought out ways to pursue her intellectual, social and spiritual interests (University Women's Club; Philanthropic Educational Opportunity Chapter "P"Sisterhood; St. Aiden's Presbyterian church), and spent many enjoyable months each year at the family summer home at Gower Point on the Sunshine Coast, where she made lifelong Friends among the summer resident families there. The family wishes to thank the staff of Kiwanis Care for the kindness and love they showed towards Tibbie, and for the excellent all-round environment of both peaceful care and stimulating activity which made her last years so enjoyable for her. A family Memorial Service will be held for Tibbie at Kiwanis Care Centre.

Dr. Robert▲ M. CLARK passed away peacefully in his sleep August 11, 2007. He and his wife Merle were blessed with five children and ten grandchildren: Rob and wife Heather (Jennifer, Michael, David, Jamie, Jonathan); Hilary and husband Bruce REID (David, Tim, Iain); Alison; Rosalyn; and Jeremy and wife Nicola (Joshua, Noah). Born in Vancouver February 23, 1920, Robert attended Lord Byng High School, graduated from University of British Columbia (B. Comm. - Kiwanis Gold Medal, 1941 and Honours B.A. - Economics, 1942) and Harvard University (M.A. and Ph. D. - Economics, 1944, 1946). As a member of the University of British Columbia Economics Department (1946-1985) and Director of Academic Planning (1965-1977), he especially enjoyed teaching government finance. His writings include The Municipal Business Tax in Canada (1952) and a two-volume report, Economic Security for the Aged in the United States and Canada (1959). He served on three provincial commissions of inquiry on public finance issues. A conservative in philosophy, Robert was passionate about contributing to a just and united Canada, and to the betterment of society (consultant to Conservative, Liberal and even New Democratic Party governments; served on the Senate and Board of Governors at University of British Columbia, the Vancouver School of Theology, Regent College, and the Vancouver Board of Trade). He was awarded the Confederation Medal by the federal government in 1992 for outstanding service to the people of Canada. In retirement Robert remained actively engaged in civic affairs and enjoyed spending time with his family. The highlight of his week was attending First Baptist Church, where he appreciated the outstanding sermons and choir music. The family wishes to thank Dillon Lazaroff, Terry Chan and Greg Adkins for providing Dad with such a high quality of life in his later years. Proud grandfather of Katie, Sara, Griffin and Ethan. son of the late Theodore CLARK and Dorothy AYER. Dear brother and brother-in-law of the late Dorothy and Willem AUER, and of Graham ROSS (Susan.) Much loved uncle and great uncle of many Auer and Ross nieces and nephews. Dear friend since childhood of Henry Humphrey Moulton and Fred Pillsbury, and of their wives Betsy and Bina.
Thanks to the staff of the Griffith McConnell Residence and the Aylmer Must agency for their friendly, cheerful care.
Lew lived a full life: boyhood in New England; education at Milton Academy and Harvard College; service in the South Pacific as an officer in the U.S. Navy; employment with Dewey and Almy in Cambridge and Montreal, with Alcan in Montreal, Ross Cutter in Waltham, and Cambridge again with Harvard University Press; and outdoor pursuits including sailing, cross country skiing and walking. He retired in Montreal, spending time in voluntary activities in the community and learnt to curl at the Royal Montreal Curling Club. Lew's happiest moments were in the company of his family and Friends.

WILSON, John Reginald " Reg"
Rauni's 'Big Boy' slipped away quietly late Monday night at Mount Sinai Hospital. It was the way Reg would have wanted. No fuss. No bother. No unnecessary sadness. Born January 13, l919 in Tilbury, Ontario, Reg was shy of his 89th birthday. There were no surprises in store for that celebration because he would have hated that. What would have been there is the beautiful love he inspired in all around him. His special love of 20 years, Rauni GILLESPIE was always at his side. Their life together was one of enjoyment and shared experiences. Theatre, walks, Friends and travel (Australia, Turkey, Caribbean… you name it). They were a handsome couple. From Tilbury Reg moved to Saint Mary's where he was raised by an aunt and uncle and savoured the life of one of Canada's special small towns. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1940 and served overseas returning in 1944. After moving to Windsor in 1947 he began his long and admirable career with Seagram's. He soon became V.P. and sales manager, ultimately advancing to Toronto to the position of District Sales Manager of Calvert Distillers. His Windsor Friends will remember him as one of the city's most active and dedicated citizens. The Windsor Jaycees, AKO fraternity, the Windsor Kiwanis Club, Ad and Sales Club, Branch 94 of the Royal Canadian Legion and Beachgrove Golf Club all benefited and were served by his energy and loyalty. Married to the former Jean CLARK, they had two children, Richard (Gloria SMITH) and Barbara (Terry O'MALLEY) to whom he was devoted. After his wife's death Reg continued his residence in Toronto. Reg is survived by Ms. GILLESPIE, his children and half-brother Alexander WILSON (Georgina) and a large array of Friends gained through his passion for curling, tennis, bridge and 45 years at his alternate home St. George's Golf Club. His presence is gone but his memory will be with us forever. His was a wonderful life. And as he would say 'I love you, too'. A funeral service will be held at the Humphrey Funeral Home - A.W. Miles Chapel, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Eglinton Avenue East), on Friday, November 30 at 12 noon. Private internment will be held Friday, November 30. THOMPSON/THOMSON/TOMPSON/TOMSON, Catharine (1915-2007)
On December 5, 2007 Catharine left this world to join her much loved husband Rhys. With support of daughters Carol and Brenda (and her husband Barry), the help of kind caregivers, wonderful neighbours and the Grace in home Palliative Care Program, Catharine achieved her wish to die in her own home. Her final years were enhanced by her loyal canine companion Mandy.
Catharine was a devoted friend, enjoying an active social life with many Friends and neighbours. One needed to book early if you wanted to go to a movie or lunch. The Leafs, Argos and golf have lost an avid fan. Catharine and sister-in-law Aileen kept the rest of us up to date on all the scores.
Catharine will be remembered by her seven grandchildren, Cathy CRAVEN (John), Nancy CLARK, David CLARK, Karen Clark LE POOLE (Chris.) Michael, Christopher (Jennifer) and Rebecca YOUNG-as the quiet, strong, determined lady that they loved and respected.
The addition of great-grandchildren Julianna, Joshua, and Jasper brought Catharine much pleasure. She anxiously waited for the birth of the newest great-grandchild Finn.
Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners with smashed carrots, apple pie and dingle cake, will all evoke good memories of family times together.
Nana you will live on as Cathariine the Great our beloved Mother and Nana whose quiet nature, and sound ethics have endured life's many tests. You have set the bar high through the example of your life. We are proud of you Nana. We aspire to make you proud of us. We will honour your wishes-we will remember and miss you, but we will let you go.
At Catharine's request cremation and burial have taken place.
