COOPER,
Reed▲
T.▲ (1931-2006)
Died peacefully at Stevenson Memorial Hospital, Alliston, on
Thursday, June 15, 2006, in his 76th year. Reed's courageous
spirit enabled him to live life to the fullest while battling
cancer. As a loving husband and best friend to Jane, adored father
by his two daughters, Sheila
McCUTCHEON
(Steve) and
Lisa▲
(Richard
RITSON,) and grandfather to his 'best girls', Renée and Brenna
McCUTCHEON, he will be greatly missed. He is survived by his
brother North and sister Judy. As a child in his native Bermuda,
Reed was introduced to watercolour painting. After his move to
Canada where he attended Trinity College School and later McMaster
University in Hamilton, he renewed his interest in painting.
After graduation, although Reed pursued a 32 year career as a
civil servant for the Ontario government, art continued to be
a main focus in his life. During the 1960s he held two successful
shows at a gallery in Toronto and one of his paintings from that
decade was acquired by the National Gallery of Canada. Many of
the works from the sixties were brought to life again in a retrospective
art show in 2005 at the Dufferin County Museum and Archives.
His later art continued to find inspiration from the landscape.
Trips to England with his wife and to northern Ontario with his
extended family provided endless opportunities for sketching
and painting. As a thoughtful Christian, he dedicated much of
his time to his church, serving as a warden at St. Clement's
Anglican Church in Toronto and then after his move to Mulmur
in Dufferin County, as a faithful parishioner of St. Luke's,
Rosemont. His family and Friends will remember him for his gentle
sensitivity, genuine kindness and his understated yet profound
passion for what he cared about. You are invited to visit with
the family at the Doney Funeral Home, 318 Main St. East, Shelburne,
Ontario on Wednesday, June 21st from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral
service will be held at St. Luke's Anglican Church, Rosemont
(Hwy 89) on Thursday, June 22nd at 11 a.m. As an expression of
sympathy, donations may be made to St. Luke's Church or a charity
of your choice. Special thanks to the staff who cared for Reed
at the Cancer Clinic at the Southlake Regional Health Centre.
