Peacefully at the Montfort Hospital, Ottawa, Edith Norine (nee MacHAM,) a dear and gentle soul, slipped quietly into the presence of the Lord Thursday morning, July 13, 2006, at the age of 102. Beloved wife of the late Delmont Ray McROBERTS (predeceased in 1996;) Cherished mother of Patricia Ann FANCY and Robert Allan (Marylyn); "Gram" will be sadly missed by grandchildren Peter FANCY (Natalia), Robin FANCY, Rebecca (Giff SHEARER), Steve McROBERTS (Michelle) and Phil McROBERTS (Libby,▼) and by great grandchildren, Jared, Laura, Ethan, Jennifer, Victoria, Katie and Grace. Also will be missed by Rick FANCY (Vista,▼) Eleanor▼ COX and all Edith's Red Hat group. Born on a farm near New Lowell, Ontario before the time when automobiles, electricity, indoor plumbing and telephones became common household amenities, Edith was blessed with wonderful memories and stories from a bygone era. She lived by the deep values and qualities of that era in a godly way before her family and Friends. Edith taught in several rural one-room schools in the 1920s and 1930s, and then in Ottawa area schools after her marriage and while raising a family. She retired in 1968. She was a member of Dominion (later Dominion-Chalmers) United Church for 60 years and was an active member of their Unit 8 ministry group. In her latter years she was known as the oldest member of the Royal Flush chapter of the Red Hat Society and enjoyed many outings with them up to her 102nd birthday in March. Having taught and memorized much of the poetry from the old Ontario readers, she knew well the words of Alfred Lord Tennyson, "The old order changeth, yielding place to new, and God fulfills Himself in many ways, lest one good custom should corrupt the world." This one good custom -- Edith -- has left an indelible mark on all those she touched. Born August 29, 1943 in Derbyshire, England a son of Frank and Hilda (née HOWE) CAVE, Dick CAVE passed away peacefully, at La Farm in Duncan, Ontario with family at his side on Sunday, February 26, 2006 at the age of 62. He is survived by his much loved wife and partner of 18 years, Sally LEPPARD. Loving father of Emma (and Brian,) Steve (and Kerry,) Kate (and Kris,) Liz NIELD (nee McHARDY, and Jim,) Louise (and Chris,) Jamie McHARDY, and sadly missed by his beloved granddaughter, Sarah Grace. Dear brother of Sue and her husband Dave WHITEHEAD of Cornwall, England. Also remembered as a dear son-in-law by John and Jocey LEPPARD, and as a special brother-in-law and uncle by their families. Dick emigrated from Derby, England as a Civil Engineer in 1969. He worked with Kilbourn Engineering until 1984 when he founded the Ontario-based R. Cave and Associates Engineering Inc. There he nurtured a tradition of creative, pragmatic and holistic engineering solutions to Canada's waste management and ecological problems. He finished his career with Trow Consulting in Brampton. A memorial funeral service in remembrance of Dick will be conducted at Bethany Church of the Nazarene, Trowbridge Street West in Meaford, on Monday, March 6, 2006 at 1: 30 p.m. A private family disposition of Dick's cremated remains will be conducted at a later date. Peacefully, at La Farm in Duncan, Ontario and surrounded by his loving family and Friends, both at home and abroad, both with us and in heaven, our amazing husband, dad, guardian angel, grand-dad, uncle, cherished friend and valued colleague, passed graciously into a space filled with beauty, light, energy and peace for safekeeping, until we are all reunited. He leaves his adoring wife, Sally LEPPARD, partner of 18 years. By his side, throughout his 4 year battle with cancer, and for always, are his treasured and adored children - Emma (and Brian), Steve (and Kerry), Kate (and Kris,) Liz NIELD (née McHARDY, and Jim,) Louise (and Chris,) Jamie McHARDY, and his precious and beloved granddaughter, Sarah Grace. His sister Sue and husband Dave WHITEHEAD came from Cornwall, England to be by his side. There he nurtured a tradition of creative, pragmatic and holistic engineering solutions to Canada's waste management and ecological problems. He finished his career with Trow Consulting in Brampton. Our family's grateful thanks go to those who cared for Dick in his last stage of life - the Collingwood General & Marine Hospital, the Owen Sound Community Care Access Centre home care team and nurses Lorraine, Royanne, Sue and Laurie, and "spa lady" Sharon, Dr. and Mrs. Tony ROWLINSON, Joyce STRAITON, Dr. Jennifer KNOX and Bettina of Princess Margaret Hospital, and Dr. Marwan FAKIH of Roswell Park Cancer Institute. Howard was a retired employee of Bell Canada, an honoured member of Boy Scouts Canada and a member of the Triple "C" Woodcarving club. Cremation and private interment has taken place. On Friday July 21, 2006 at his late residence in his 72nd year. Dearly loved husband of the late Catherine (McGRAW) McHARG (1999.) Loved father of Jim and Frank McHARG, both of Saint Thomas. Dear grandfather of Sharon, Katie, Sarah and Jim and great grandfather of Jacob, Justin and Rece. Also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. James was born May 18, 1935 in Scotland, the son of the late James and Elizabeth McHARG, he came to Canada in 1974 and retired from Canadian Timken. Born January 25, 1919 in Toronto, died May 21, 2006. Predeceased by her beloved husband Alexander Primrose Grahame JOY in July 1996 cherished mother of Dorothy (Peter) LOTHIAN, Catherine MacHATTIE and Susannah AMES; loving grandmother of Edith (MacHATTIE) FARTHING, James MacHATTIE, Alexander LOTHIAN, Nina LOTHIAN, Marina (AMES) DE LUNA and Patrick AMES. B.Sc. from the University of Manitoba in 1941, M.A. from the University of Toronto, Peggy worked with Dr. BANTING at University of Toronto doing blood research. Married in 1944, she gave up her physiology to raise her family with Alec. She was President of the Humewood House Association and of the University Women's Club of Etobicoke (1968-1969). She was an active member of the Church of St. Wilfrid, and an enthusiastic owner and breeder of Cairn Terriers. She was a long-term resident of Etobicoke, (Chestnut Hills Parkway 9 years and Rivercove Drive 44 years) and ended her days at Lakeshore Lodge. The funeral service will be held at the Church of St. Wilfrid, 1315 Kipling Ave., Etobicoke on Wednesday, May 24, 2006, at 1 p.m. The family will be at the Church for visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial following the service is at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. If desired, memorial donations may be made to Humewood House or a charity of your choice.
