Peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family, George Norman COUNTER of London in his 63rd year. Beloved husband of Jane Elizabeth COUNTER. Dear father of Richard COUNTER and his wife Anne of London, Kassandra McGAFFEY and her husband Jay of Rodney, and Victoria ABRAY and her husband Ben of Kilworth. Cherished grandfather of Randy, Stephen, Jayme-Leigh, Dylan, Jesse, Connor, Colton and Madelaine. Also survived by his sister Calista McNAIRN and her husband Ken of Clinton. George served the citizens of London as a member of the London Police Force from 1964-1975, and thereafter served as Supervisor of Building Services for Old Oak Properties. Special thanks to Ewald BIERBAUM and the wonderful staff at Old Oak Properties, Doctor Dale WILSON, Doctor Andrew BODKIN, Faye GAGAN of Community Care Access Centre and Sherri at St. Elizabeth's for your support and thoughtfulness. Visitation will be held at the Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, on Sunday, November 5th, 2006 from 2: 00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. There will be no funeral service. Peacefully following a brief illness at Lakeridge Health - Oshawa on Wednesday, February 15th, 2006. Jack DRISCOLL, in his 83rd year. Now reunited with his best friend and soulmate Mildred (Mid) née McADAM (who predeceased him on June 13th, 2002.) Beloved father of Ellen and her husband Doug BEAL of Blackstock, Beth McGAHEY- NEUBAURER and her husband Karl, John and his wife Julie, Jane and her husband Bob JOHNSON and Mark all of Oshawa and his late son-in-law Stuart McGAHEY. Dear brother of Dora WHITE/WHYTE of Windsor and Margaret REAUME of Richmond Hill. Lovingly remembered by his 11 grandchildren Laura, Wendy, Katie and David BEAL, Julie and Dan NEUBAUER, Jessica McGAHEY, Ryan and the late Sean DRISCOLL and Damien and Bretton JOHNSON. Dearest great-grandfather of Kadan and Alexi JOHNSON and Keegan D'ARCY. Jack served St. Gregory's Church faithfully as an organist for over 52 years. He was recognized by Pope John Paul II, receiving a Papal Award for distinguished service in February 1996, on the occasion of his 50th anniversary as an organist at St. Gregory's. Jack served as an accountant with General Motors for 41 years. McCARTHY, Dr. John Russell "Jack" B.A., B.Paed., M.A., Ed.D., LL.D.
Passed away at Toronto on February 15, 2006, in his ninety-first year. He is survived by his daughter, Judith Ann MANSON and his grand_sons, Scott M. MANSON and J.J. MANSON. He was predeceased by his wife, Isabelle J. (ASQUITH,) by his parents, Sylvester E. (Wes) McCARTHY and Nellie M. (McGAR,) and his sister, Rita B. MARTIN. After attending North Bay Normal School, Jack began his teaching career in a one-room rural school in Lee Valley, near Webbwood, his place of birth. He later taught in North Bay and Kingston. Upon graduation from Queen's University in Arts he was the youngest person appointed to the Inspection of Schools Branch of the then Ontario Department of Education. After service in the Welland area, he was Inspector of Public Schools in Frontenac County, North York and Forest Hill Village. He held numerous positions in the Ontario Department of Education before becoming the first Deputy Minister of University Affairs. On behalf of the government, he played an important role in the development of new universities in Ontario and in the expansion of existing universities. Later, he returned to the Department of Education as Deputy Minister, where he provided leadership in the fields of curriculum, administration and organization. Upon retirement from public service, he became an Associate Professor of Education at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (UofT). Dr. McCARTHY holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Queen's University, B.Paed. (U of T), M.A. (Columbia) and honourary degrees of Ed.D. (Nipissing), LL.D. (McMaster and Queen's). He was recently named Distinguished Alumnus of Nipissing University. In 1949, he received his Master of Arts degree from Teachers College, Columbia University, in New York. In 1952-53 he was the recipient of the William E. Pakenham Fellowship in Education from the University of Toronto which was tenable for a year of full-time study, again at Columbia. He was a member of two honourary societies in education, Kappa Delta Pi and Phi Delta Kappa, in chapters at Columbia. He served for several years as a member of the Senate of Knox College (U of T.) Dr. McCARTHY took an active interest in community affairs in Leaside where he resided for 44 years. He was an elder in Leaside Presbyterian Church, a former President of the Leaside Property Owners Association and was twice elected to the East York Board of Education, where he served one term as Chairman of the Board. Dr. McCARTHY was a skilled athlete in baseball, fastball and tennis. One of the teams he played on won an Ontario championship and was inducted into the North Bay Sports Hall of Fame. He served as President of the Canadian Education Association and was a life member of that organization. On a sabbatical leave in 1979, he attended the Institute of Education, University of London, England where he was named Visiting Scholar for that period. The family will receive Friends at the Humphrey Funeral Home - A.W. Miles Chapel, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Eglinton Avenue East), from 5: 00-7:00 p.m. Friday, February 17. The funeral service will be held in the chapel on Saturday at 2 p.m. followed by interment in Mount Pleasant Cemetery. A reception will be held in the Leaside Room of the funeral home following the interment. Thank you to the wonderful, caring staff of Belmont House and to Adella and Mayden, who participated so helpfully in Jack's life over the past year. Peacefully surrounded by her family at University Hospital, London on Thursday, March 9th, 2006 in her 86th year. Catherine HENRY was the youngest daughter of the late John Thomas McGARRELL and Mary Cecelia SHEEDY. For 61 years she was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Peter HENRY (2003.) Surviving are her four precious children, Stephen, Patrick (Betty CHRZAN,) Joanne (Bill BYRICK,) and John. She will be sadly missed by her nine grandchildren: Joseph (Marilyn BROWN,) Jason (Rebecca SCHWEHR,) Christopher (Leanne SCHAUS), Kathryn, James (Christina COMEAU), Robert, Kaitlin, Benjamin and Linsday and her ten grandchildren; Jarrett, Kaitlyn, Curtis, Joshua, Marnie, Ryan, Morgan, Jamie, Alyssa and Emily. Also surviving are her brother Patrick McGARRELL, sisters-in-law Monica McGARRELL and Noreen HENRY and brothers-in-law Bernard HENRY and Leo HENRY. Predeceased by her brothers John, Gerry, Frank, Bert, and Lawrence and her sister Mary. Also predeceased by her sisters-in-law, Marie POOK, Mary HENRY, Blanche HENRY, Nora McGARRELL, Norma▼ McGARRELL, and brothers-in-law, Frank HENRY, Ken MUNROE, and Philip POOK. Catherine will also be missed by her many nieces, nephews and Friends. She will be remembered as a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, mother-in-law, friend and a devout Catholic. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Gerald BINGHAM for the compassionate care he gave to Catherine and Joe over the years. Visitors will be received at the John T. It is with deep sorrow and great loss we announce the passing of Michael Patrick McGARRELL on June 1st, 2006 after a valiant fight with cancer, in his 55th year. Born June 10, 1951 to Patrick and the late Norma McGARRELL. Mike▼ leaves to mourn his devoted wife, Cathy, his precious daughters Julie (Louie) TZAVELAS, Kelly (Devin) McGARRELL, and Katie McGARRELL. Cherished Papa to granddaughter Eleni TZAVELAS, and dear brother of Deborah McGARRELL. Dear brother-in-law of Orrie (Marvin), Liz (Peter), Linda (Dennis) and Joy (Norm). Mike also leaves to mourn many devoted Friends, especially the "Winners Circle" and his dog Bailey. Mike was a loyal member of U.A. local 463 - Plumbers and Pipefitters, Bowmanville, Ontario. For the past 3 years Mike struggled with an Acquired Brain Injury and made great strides with his fighting spirit setting the pathway for others who will follow. "Every Day's a Good Day". May Mike rest in peace and comfort free of pain. Mike was an inspiration to many. Ed passed away peacefully and with joy in his heart on September 20, 2006 in Oakville, Ontario in his 87th year and just shy of the 60th anniversary of marriage to his beloved wife Mary, by whom he will be sorely missed. Ed has always been and remains the cherished father of seven proud and grateful children, John (Carolyn), Mary Louise (Fritz), Peter (Jennifer), Paul, Peggy (Don), Michelle (Predeceased by her husband Rob), and Martha (Doug). Suddenly on Sunday June 11, 2006 at the General and Marine Hospital, Collingwood in her 81st year. Jean of Stayner, beloved wife of the late Russel (1994.) Dear sister of the late Jack SHARPE and the late Annie WILSON. Jean will be sadly missed by her many caring nieces, nephews and their families including the McGauley family. McGAULEY, Daniel John (September 13, 1933-July 11, 2006)
It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected loss of Dan McGAULEY who died peacefully in his sleep on July 11, 2006. Dan will be greatly missed as the loving husband of Carolyn Joan, as proud father of Michael, David and his wife Angela, Gregory, and Mark, and as proud and loving Grandpa of Errigal, Mac, and Rowan. He was predeceased by his sister, Anne AKITT, and his parents, Irene and Bill McGAULEY. Dan was a dedicated family man who led a full and active life. He enjoyed golf and fine automobiles, and was passionate about his work. He dearly loved and adored his grandchildren. He will be missed. Friends may call at the Turner and Porter Butler Chapel, 4933 Dundas Street West (between Islington and Kipling Avenues), from 2-4 and 7-9 on Friday. Funeral Service will be held in the chapel on Saturday, July 15, 2006, at 3 p.m. Cremation to follow. Of Saint Thomas and formerly of Fingal on Wednesday, April 19, 2006, at the Saint Thomas-Elgin General Hospital, in her 91st year. Beloved wife of the late Gerald Roger MOORE (March 7, 1983.) She was the last of her family. Predeceased by 4 sisters Edith MYCROFT, Edna PORTER, Clara CHUTE and Annie HILL and by 2 brothers Frank and Gordon McGAW. Sadly missed by a number of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Alma was born in Saint Thomas on February 2, 1916, the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary (ROBINSON) McGAW. She was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church, Fingal and the Women's Mission. Resting at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin Street, Saint Thomas where funeral service will held Saturday at 3: 30 p.m. Interment to follow in Fingal Cemetery.
