ENGLISH, Hilde M. (1945-2006)
Surrounded by the love of her family and Friends, Hilde died at her home in Kitchener, on Thursday, June 29, 2006. Beloved wife of John ENGLISH. Loving and devoted mother of Jonathan. She will be lovingly remembered by her mother, Barbara ABT of Kitchener, sister-in-law, Linda ABT of Dundas and father-in-law, Jack ENGLISH of Waterloo. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and cousins in Canada and Germany. Her father Josef and her brother Joseph predeceased her in 2005. Hilde was born in Chemnitz, Germany on February 27, 1945 and emigrated to Canada in August 1953 where they settled in Kitchener. Hilde attended Saint Mary's and Eastwood high schools, the University of Waterloo, and the University of Western Ontario Law School where she graduated on the Dean's Honours List. She practised law in Waterloo from 1976 to 2006 and was Counsel for Sutherland Mark. Hilde was active in her community and her profession. She has served on several boards including the Kitchener-Waterloo Community Foundation, C.O.D.A., the Canadian Clay and Glass Museum, the Waterloo and later Kitchener-Waterloo Chamber of Commerce, the University of Waterloo Board of Governors, and the Grand River Conservation Foundation. She also served on the board of the Advocate's Society, the Canadian Bar Association (Ontario), Opera Ontario, and was the founding chair of the Ontario Liberal Party Women's Commission. She was named Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest Woman of the Year in 1999 and received the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002, and the Tim Fitzpatrick Community Service Award in 2005. During her long battle, Hilde's many Friends baked and cooked for her and her family, and drove her to many medical appointments. She had a gift for Friendship, which was returned in abundance. The family would like to thank all of these Friends and especially Angela GRANIC, who was always there when needed for 13 years, Kathie FAHEL, volunteer nurses Marg STRONG and Nancy TELEGDI, Nat and Hajo HELTKE and the CarePartner staff who allowed Hilde to die in peace at home surrounded by her treasured garden. Special thanks to the superb medical care from Sunnybrook and, especially, Doctors Kathleen PRITCHARD and J-P PIGNOL. and, in Waterloo, Doctor Janet ZETTEL. Friends are invited to share their memories of Hilde with her family at the Erb and Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo, from 2-4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, July 3 and Tuesday, July 4, 2006. A private family service will be held, followed by cremation. Interment will follow in Woodland Cemetery, Kitchener. A service for relatives and Friends to celebrate Hilde's life will be held on Sunday, July 9, 2006, 3 p.m., at the Centre For Intern ation al Govern ance Innovation, 57 Erb Street West, Waterloo. Born in Woodstock, July 23, 1924, daughter of the late Arthur William HOWARD and the late former Erie Mae Argent (CULLODEN.) Marjorie was a dedicated former employee of Fleck Mfg., Tillsonburg and a former clerk at the former Pantry Mart on Sanders Street, Tillsonburg. Much loved mother and mother-in-law: Doreen and her husband John TELFER of British Columbia; David SIZE and his wife Carol of London; Douglas SIZE and wife Debbie of British Columbia; and Dianna KRAFFT of London and her late husband Merle (1994). Proud and loving grandmother of eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Survived by two sisters: Anna BARRIAULT of Tillsonburg and the late Joseph; Dorothy DRYER of Woodstock and the late Patrick DRYER Sr. and a brother Jerry HOWARD and his wife Lillian of Burford. Daughter of the late Beatrice and Fred BINKLEY, predeceased by her brothers Gordon, Clifford and Howard. She was married to her late husband James of the Governor General Horse Guards Regiment. Marjorie leaves her loving son David and daughter-in-law Joy, her granddaughter Kim TELFORD (Jeff) and grand_son D.J. (Julia) and her two great-grandchildren Holly and Ryan. With heavy hearts but loving memories, we announce the passing of a kind and respected man on Friday, April 28, 2006. Stan BODALY leaves to mourn his loving wife of 60 years, Betty (Elizabeth HEATH), his dear daughters, Gail SWAINSON (John), Susan LITTLE (David,) Donna TELL (Randy) and Anne GUARD, his wonderful Grandchildren: Simon (Susan), Tracey (Andre), Jim (Elizabeth), Jarrett (Julie), Jeffrey, Corinne, Steven, Tara (Jason), Matthew, Katie and Brittany and three precious Great Grandchildren: Kylie, Cohen and Bronwyn, his sister Joan EVANS (Royce,) sisters-in-law June BODALY and Margaret ELLIS and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brother Fred. Stan was born in London, Ontario in 1924. During World War 2 he served in the Royal Canadian Air Force, Squadron 433 and flew 36 "ops" as a gunner in a Halifax bomber. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. Stan worked for C.N. Rail for 39 years in London and Toronto. His first love was his family but he was a man of many interests, woodworking, carving, fishing, history and traveling to name a few. A celebration of Stan's life will be held at the Falconer Funeral Homes Ltd. -- Bluewater Chapel 201 Suncoast Drive East, Goderich on Saturday, May 6 at 2: 00 p.m. with visitation commencing from 12:30 noon until time of the service. With a great sense of loss we announce Mom's passing at Bonnie Place Senior Care in Saint Thomas, Ontario. Predeceased by her first husband, Jack Dewitt SHAINLINE; 2nd husband, Chris; parents Blosh JOSH (father;) Ilo MAY (mother;) brothers Marvin, Alvin and Vern; Sister, Edna. Left to mourn her passing are: daughter, Mary (SHAINLINE) STRICKLER, Vancouver, British Columbia; Sons: Mike SHAINLINE (Marilyn), Botwood, Newfoundland; Jim SHAINLINE, Saint Thomas, Ontario; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was a woman of great strength and determination with a sense of humor that she generously share with anyone in her company.
