Lightning kills woman at Wasaga
Canadian Press
A lightning strike has claimed the life of a 26-year-old woman at Wasaga Beach. Ontario provincial police say Angela EXELL of Angus was with two family members when she was struck yesterday afternoon.
EXELL's relatives suffered minor injuries. The death occurred in the same area where an 18-year-old Toronto man drowned after falling off an inflatable raft on Wednesday. Erfan TARAJ drifted into deep water and struggled when he fell off the raft.

Young mom of two killed by lightning
By Ian ROBERTSON, Sun Media, Sat., July 22, 2006
Toronto -- Angela EXELL was hurrying to leave Wasaga Beach with her children and other relatives when a lighting bolt killed the young mother of two, says her grieving mom.
"It was just a family day at the beach," her mother, Brenda HAUCK, 47, said yesterday after leaving a Barrie funeral home, where arrangements were made for her daughter's funeral.
"It was a wonderful day, until that happened."
As the sky darkened over the popular Wasaga Beach Provincial Park beach early Thursday afternoon, the family began packing up.
On the beach with Angela, 26, were son David, 5, daughter Paige, almost 2, mother-in-law Judy SCHELL, brothers-in-law Ray and Darren EXELL, plus sister-in-law Shannon EXELL, 26, who was with her sister Belinda ATKINSON, 23.
Angela was in the open when she was struck down.
Const. Mark KINNEY was conducting an interview about the Wednesday drowning of Toronto teen Erfan TARAJ when he was alerted.
The officer rushed to the beach and tried to save the young woman, using cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, a colleague said. "He booked off work today… it was pretty traumatic."
In addition to killing Angela, Shannon and Belinda suffered minor injuries. The three women were taken to Collingwood General and Marine Hospital.
Born, raised and schooled in Barrie, the victim was in the Brownies as a girl, and "loved to paint and draw," HAUCK said, her voice catching at the memories.
"She was very artistic," something her daughter was passing on to David and Paige, their grandmother said. "She did crafts with her kids all the time."
Though trained as a manicurist, HAUCK said her daughter in recent times "was a homemaker."
Angela and Michael EXELL, a roofer, married four years ago and moved into a home in Angus, a village near Canadian Forces Base Borden, northwest of Barrie.
"If you asked anyone, she was the most loving, beautiful young lady," her mom said. "She was out to save the world and loved to help people."
Michael and the children are staying with her and husband Ken.

Nancy, took a job in 1957 with the Ontario Workmen's Compensation Board and had a distinguished career, until her retirement in 1988. TARKANYI, Nancy Kathleen -- Dispatch:
By Jeffrey HAWKINS, Page M6
Nancy TARKANYI loved to dance. Ballet, ballroom, stage -- you name it, she did it all.
Her elegance and determination even caught the eye of a Life magazine photographer when she was 16 and performing across England with a travelling theatre production of Snow White.
Nancy Kathleen WOODALL was born in Stockport, England, on October 5, 1930, and essentially she lived two successful lives.
In her early life, she enjoyed a career as a performer, winning numerous trophies, medals and certificates during the 1950s for her work in productions staged everywhere from London to Paris.
That was before a young waiter, Joszef TARKANYI, working at a dance club where she was performing, asked her to marry him (she said yes) -- and she emigrated with him to Canada.
Settling in Toronto, Mrs. TARKANYI left behind the theatre for a career at the Ontario Workmen's Compensation Board, where each year she helped to organize elaborate staff Christmas parties that are still fondly remembered.
"She had a way about her that everyone noticed," recalls Josephine LYONS, a cousin of hers.
"She was a very determined and opinionated woman, but she had such elegance in everything she did."
In fact, in the weeks before her death, Mrs. TARKANYI astounded the hospital staff at St. Joseph's Health Centre with her determination, as she continued her daily ritual of leg stretches.
"It must have seemed odd to them, but that's just the kind of confidence she had with herself and her body," said her cousin's husband, Bob LYONS.
Nancy TARKANYI died on February 4. She was 75.
