Where they came from remains a myth
One time Chris jammed his finger
Down in the exercise room
But because Grandpa remained calm
Chris was feeling better soon
Fame caught up to Grandpa
Just a few years past
Assumed to be the famous wizard
A member of the blockbuster cast
Grandpa enjoyed many things
Fishing, golfing, sports on television
Living life to the fullest
Makes us smile with envy
Grandpa had Parkinson's
Which affected how he spoke
But he always finished his sentences
He never gave up hope
Grandpa had a great personality
Many were touched by his grace

Of Saint Thomas passed away at the Saint Thomas-Elgin General Hospital Continuing Care Centre on Thursday, March 9, 2006, in his 86th year. Husband of the late Doris (JAGOE) KITCHENHAM (1994.) Father of Kerry KITCHENHAM of Paisley, Kevin KITCHENHAM of Vancouver, British Columbia, and Aly HEBB of London. Grandfather of Cameron WHITE/WHYTE and Curtis HEBB, both of London. Also survived by son-in-law, Geoff HEBB of Saint Thomas, sister-in-law, Verna JAGOE of Kenora and several nieces and nephews. He was the last surviving member of his own immediate family, having been predeceased by sisters, Hilda BEER and Ivy POTTICARY and brothers, Frederick and Harry KITCHENHAM. Born in Saint Thomas, July 11, 1920, the son of the late John and Lilly (GILLINGHAM) KITCHENHAM. Alan was a retired Sears Canada sales manager and a member of Knox Presbyterian Church, Saint Thomas. Friends will be received at the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington Street, Saint Thomas on Friday evening from 7-9 p.m. where the funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11: 00 a.m. Following cremation, interment in Elmdale Memorial Park. Passed away peacefully with family at his side at his residence on Monday, February 6, 2006 on his 88th birthday. He will be sadly missed by granddaughter Kelly (Sergio) GAUTREAU of Windsor, great-grandchildren Candice (James) and Jody (Steve), his dear Friends Trina (Troy) and Mike (Denise), his sister Margaret of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, his nephew Kenneth, his Goddaughter Donna as well as several Friends of Stokes Bay and Windsor. He was predeceased by his wife Della (WARDROP) POTTIE, his parents, and several brothers and sisters. Pat was a long standing member of the Royal Canadian Legion and a very proud war veteran. Visitation will be at the Davidson Chapel, 71 Main Street, Lions head on Saturday, February 11th from 12: 00 p.m. until time of funeral service at 2: 00 p.m. with Father Steve LACROIX officiating. TOLMIE, Hélène Louise (née LADNER)
Died peacefully on Tuesday, 21 March, 2006 at Crofton Manor, Vancouver, aged 92. Daughter of Leon and Jeanne LADNER, Hélène was born in Vancouver, on 2 February 1914. She was in the first Grade One class at Prince of Wales Public School in Shaughnessy. In 1931-2 she completed in one year the two-year art program at the Ecole Bisschoffseim, in Brussels while her family was living there. Subsequently, she attended the Vancouver School of Art and Design. In 1936 she married Ross TOLMIE and they moved to Ottawa where Ross worked for the Department of Finance until the end of the Second World War. He then established his own law practice. They had six children. As well as being a superb mother, Hélène volunteered in a number of organizations - the Mother's Union at St. Bartholomew's Anglican Church, the Citizen's Committee on Children (art program with the Ottawa Playground Committee), the Andrew Fleck Childcare Centre, Rockcliffe Park Conservation Committee, and the Ottawa School of Art and Design. She loved to cross-country ski in the Gatineau and to spend summer days swimming in MacKay Lake and at the Five Lakes Fishing Club with the family. In later years she renewed her interest in art creating, among other works of art, a large tapestry of the geology of MacKay Lake, which now hangs in Rockcliffe Park Community Hall. Hélène and Ross moved to Vancouver in 1989. She was predeceased by her husband Ross and by her sisters Bobsie POTTINGER and Yvonne KILLAM. Hélène will be greatly missed by her brother, Thomas E. LADNER, by many nieces and nephews and by her six children - Anne (Connla WOOD), John (Judy), Ken (Patsy), Philip (Flo), Daniel and Lulu (John LEATHLEY,) as well as by her twelve grandchildren: Jeanne, Sara and Emily TOLMIE; Nicole and Fraser TOLMIE; Derek, Natalie and Carroll TOLMIE; Lizanne TOLMIE; Peter, Steven and Ross LEATHLEY; and by her six great-grandchildren: Megan and Grace TOLMIE, Lucy and MacLeod PILLING, Katelyn and Alexander WEBB. She was a marvelous mother, a loving wife, a gifted artist and an inspiration to many people. The family would like to thank Mum's wonderful caregivers: Pia, Lori, Myrna, Lourdes, Maridel, Mariesil, Marivec, and Arlene, as well as the staff at Crofton Manor. He was an active volunteer with the Liberal Party, the 48 Highlanders of Canada, St. Paul's Anglican Church, University of Toronto Alumni, past President of the Empire Club of Canada and a past Director of the Bank of Canada. It is with sorrow that we announce the passing of Jyri Erkki PALOHEIMO on March 29th, 2006. After a long struggle with cancer, he passed away peacefully surrounded by family and Friends at his home. Doctor PALOHEIMO was born in Kuhmo, Finland on June 7, 1932 to Sirkka and Major Erik PALOHEIMO. After completing his undergraduate degree in Abstract Mathematics at the University of Helsinki in 1953, he immigrated to Canada. He undertook post-graduate work at Columbia University, New York, and completed his doctorate at the University of Toronto while working as a Mathematical Statistician for the Fisheries Research Board in St. Andrews, New Brunswick and Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Upon completion of his PhD dissertation, on the Theory of Search, he was immediately appointed Assistant Professor in both the Mathematics and Zoology departments of the University of Toronto, and later in the Institute of Applied Statistics there. In 1975 he became a member of the Institute of Environmental Studies, University of Toronto. He was promoted to Full Professor in 1976 in the Department of Zoology and the Department of Statistics. A world expert on search theory, he published over 70 academic papers, including some Citation Classics, and of the textbook, Models in Ecology, as well as contributing to other books in the field. He became an Emeritus Professor in 1997. A very quiet and unassuming person, Doctor PALOHEIMO had a lifelong interest in the inner life of man. His work on himself was felt by those he came in contact with. His attainments in this regard, as well as his genuine warmth and wry humour made him a guide and mentor for many people. He left behind former wife Linda PALOHEIMO, their children Roland WATT, Lisa HUGHES (Jan HUGHES,) Sven-Eric PALOHEIMO, Thomas PALOHEIMO and Jasmine PALOHEIMO, as well as former wife Anna CARLING, who provided vital nursing care in his final months, and their children Rolf PALOHEIMO (Diana POTTS) and Martti PALOHEIMO. He will be missed by his grand children, Jan-Christopher, Ceilidh, Reese and Keelan HUGHES; Shane (late,) Erik, Alison, and Leslie PALOHEIMO; Sean Eric MELVIN, and Martina, Kayla and Luke PALOHEIMO; and by great grandchild Serenity May MELVIN. In Finland, he leaves behind brothers Matti and Juhani (Jussi) PALOHEIMO and their families. Graduated from De La Salle College "Oaklands" High School in 1948, St. Michael's College, University of Toronto in 1951, and Osgoode Hall Law School in 1955. Law partner at Manley, Grant and Armstrong until 1970; retired partner of Cassels, Brock and Blackwell, Toronto. Member, Knights of Columbus, Kingsway Council, and Knights of Malta, Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of Saint John of Jerusalem. 40-year member of Lambton Golf & Country Club. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the devoted doctors, nurses and staff of the Palliative Care Unit of St. Michael's Hospital for their care and concern for us all. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marcel Joseph Eugene on Wednesday, February 15, 2006 in his 79th year. Loving husband to Margaret Dorothy. Father to Barbara and her husband Pat. Devoted grandfather to Angela and Patrick. Cherished great grandfather to Mackenzie. Beloved brother to Claire, Lise and Jacque. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him. Friends and family will be received at the Demarco Funeral Visitation Centre (8003 Weston Road, between Hwy. 7 and Langstaff Rd. 905-850-9500) on Saturday from 6-9 p.m. and Sunday from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, February 20th, 2006 at 10: 00 a.m. at Saint Margaret Mary Roman Catholic Church (8500 Islington Ave., Woodbridge).
