OGILVIE,
Dayne
Died suddenly October 26 in his beloved garden in Nova Scotia.
He was 56. A gentle and generous spirit, he had both wit and
wisdom, and he knew how to love. He was a great editor, writer
and manager. The tributes pouring in from colleagues would have
made him blush - then he would have corrected their grammar,
cut a few lines, and sent them back for a rewrite. He loved the
marvel of language in all its forms, especially poetry. Lines
and pieces of works including whole plays by Beckett and his
beloved Tennessee would often spill out of him and transform
the familiar into something rich and resonant. A fierce and relentless
social, political and environmental activist, his pen was the
scourge of all those who stoke the fires of systemic homophobia
and intolerance. He had a spiritual life that was profound, non-religious
and an inspiration to others. He could be a smarty-pants too,
and those beautiful blue eyes would twinkle when he'd yarned
a group into gut-busting laughter. Dayne leaves his lover, best
friend and life partner Gary
AKENHEAD,
Jessica
PEGIS and Simone
the young light of all our lives; his lifelong Friends Tom Grandy,
Robin Pacific, Don Hannah, Meghan Ferrill, Mary Tersigni and
Bob Halpin, Annie Perkins and Christina Jansen, and a community
of Friends and colleagues around the world. He delighted in their
successes, suffered with them in their troubles and loved their
children almost as much as they did. Dayne is survived by his
mother Jean, Judy and Debbie the two sisters he adored, and his
brother Courtney. The last years of his life were consumed, in
part, with grief at the loss of his beloved brothers Danny, Gregory,
David and his sister Susan. In Dayne's memory give money to an
artist or institution whose work has nourished and enriched your
spirit, and plant something for peace on our earth. Puisque le
