MEILEN, Bill (September 16, 1932-September 4, 2006)
It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of an extraordinary human being. Survived by his loving wife Patricia, two daughters Lisa and Myfanwy (mother Rhuanedd), five grandchildren Dean, Jamie, Sophia, Max and Severin. Also survived by brother John MUDD and sister Ann CHOWN and a large extended family in Wales. Born in Cardiff, Wales, Bill served in the merchant marine, did military service with the British Army in Korea, and worked as a highly successful stage, radio and television actor, radio and television writer and best-selling novelist in Britain before coming to Canada in 1969 as a professor in the Department of Drama at the University of Alberta. He retired professor emeritus in 1998. Throughout his years in Canada he contributed broadly to the stage, radio and television arts as a skilled screenwriter, broadcaster, actor and exceptionally talented dialectician. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, September 12 at 2 p.m. at Christ Church Cathedral, 690 Burrard Street, Vancouver. RIMMER, Ralph (April 18, 1915-March 8, 2006)
Resident of Pickering Village from 1950 to 1972. Retired employee of the University of Toronto, Athletic Dept. in 1980. Ralph was an avid Squash player and coach of inter-collegiate and intramural teams at the University of Toronto and after retirement an instructor in the Whitby and Oshawa areas. In his 91st year, peacefully at Hillsdale Seniors Home, Oshawa on March 8, 2006. Predeceased by his parents William and Isabella RIMMER, his wife of 36 years Lillian (GROVES,) his sister Florence CHRISTIE (Bill,) his daughter Joyce WATSON and son-in-law Reg WATSON of Newcastle. Survived by his loving wife Joyce, his sons Bill of Peterborough, Rick (Jane) of Oshawa, his brothers Bill of Cambridge and Gord (Jane) of Seaforth, step-daughters Margot McKINLAY (Mike) of Oshawa, Heather MUDD (Graeme) of Calgary and Adrienne STRONACH of Owen Sound. Sadly missed by 19 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Family and Friends will be received at the McEachnie Funeral Home, 28 Old Kingston Rd., Ajax on Friday, March 10, 2006 from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, March 11 from 12 noon to 1 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2006 at 1: 00 p.m. at the McEachnie Funeral Home. FITZPATRICK, Jean Brown (née CARTWRIGHT)
Jean FITZPATRICK, formerly of Meaford, passed away at Sunset Manor in Collingwood, Ontario, on Friday, May 26, 2006 at the age of 95. Dear wife of the late Willson (Duncan) FITZPATRICK and dear mother of Sharon Jean HOUSSER (Harry) of Petite Riviere, Nova Scotia and Spanish Wells, Bahamas. Dearly loved and loving "Banna" to Lysia MEDEIROS (Jerry) of Toronto, Emily HIGGINS and partner Luke MUDDE of Feversham, Ontario and Nathaniel HOUSSER of Whistler, British Columbia. Great Grandmother of Nicolas Nathaniel MUDDE. Great teacher of table manners, etiquette and "doing things nicely", Jean has left an everlasting impression on her family and has shown us the true meaning of being a "Lady". Jean was a life member of the Doctor David Crombie Chapter of the Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire In London where she resided for many years. Jean's family extends a special thank you to her caregivers who made her final days comfortable. A private family interment and committal of Jean's cremated remains will take place at Lakeview Cemetery in Meaford. It is with heartfelt sorrow that the family of Betty "Maxine" COOK of Aylmer, formerly of Tillsonburg announces her passing at Terrace Lodge Nursing Home Aylmer on Wednesday, April 26, 2006 in her 78th year. Beloved wife of 59 years to her husband Walter COOK. Dear mother of Dennis (Diane) COOK of Tillsonburg Linda (Bob) COMER of Edmonton; David (Edie) COOK of St. Williams Larry (Sharon) COOK of Paris; Kathy COOK of Edmonton; Randy (Caroline) COOK of Orleans; Sandra (Tony) STAELENS of Ft. McMurray, Alberta. Devoted and dearly loved grandmother to 17 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. Maxine was a dear sister to Margaret (Glen) BARONS of Aylmer; Joan (Ozzie) KELLY of Courtland; Audrey (Roy) SHEARER of Courtland; Marylou MUDGE of Tillsonburg. Peacefully, at his residence, Wednesday, November 15, 2006, surrounded by the love of his family, after a courageous fight with cancer, Robert John ROWCLIFFE, age 51, of Grand Bend, formerly of Hensall. Beloved husband and best friend of Karrie (CONLON) ROWCLIFFE. Loved father of Chris ROWCLIFFE of Hensall, Ashley ROWCLIFFE and companion Mark HARRIS of Clinton, Ryan ROWCLIFFE of Hensall, Joey FORRESTER and companion Stephanie McCLENNAN of Grand Bend, Jonathan and Shelly FORRESTER of Hensall. Loving grandpa of Hannah FORRESTER, Preston HARRIS and Morgan HENDRIKS. MUDRY, Andrea Patricia Fawcett (May 7, 1941-July 5, 2006)
Andrea succumbed to cancer after a brave brief fight. A born Torontonian, graduate of Saint Michael's College, University of Toronto, she completed her education with an M. Litt from Bristol University. With her first husband, Ronald William FAWCETT, she became the beloved mother of Natalie and Tanya. She had careers in university public relations (where she won numerous writing awards), real estate, as special assistant to the President of the Ontario College of Art and Design, and as a writer (and member of the Writers' Union of Canada). She read and travelled widely and said herself, in her last days, that with her children and grandchildren and her second husband, Peter BRIGG, she had lived a full and varied life, although all of the many whom she touched feel it has been cut off far too short. Andrea is survived by her mother, Mary KEEFE, her brother Russell Stephen MUDRY of St. Catherines, her daughter Natalie Andrea FAWCETT (wife of John LEE) of Toronto, her daughter Tatian a (Tanya) FAWCETT (wife of Pierre Pascal GENDRON) of Toronto, and her husband, Peter Alexander BRIGG. In their griefs they all rejoice in Andrea's greatest joys, her grandchildren Pascale GENDRON and Maxime GENDRON and Sebastian LEE and Alexander LEE. Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 3055 Bloor St W, (west of Royal York Rd.) on Tuesday, July 11, 2006, at 11 o'clock. Private family interment.
