Peel, Durham slayings probed
Beaten Brampton man dies of injuries
In Oshawa, victim collapses near condo
By Gail SWAINSON and Amanda-Marie
QUINTINO,
Staff
Reporters
A Brampton man found beaten with a serious head injury two weeks
ago has died, becoming Peel Region's third homicide of the year.
And residents of an Oshawa neighbourhood were left asking questions
about the safety of their community yesterday after a 31-year-old
man was found dead Sunday, Durham Region's fourth homicide of
Alan MOHABIR, who was found beaten June 15 in the area of Denlow Dr. and
Verity Ct. in Brampton, remained on life support until he died
at Saint Michael's Hospital on Thursday, Peel Region police said
yesterday.
Homicide investigators are attempting to piece together the 20-year-old
victim's last hours, but a paucity of information has left police
appealing to the public for help.
"It seems like there was some sort of altercation that took place,
but we are still trying to find out what exactly happened," said
Const. Jennifer
BRYER.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Peel homicide
bureau, 905-453-3311, ext. 3205, or Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
In Oshawa, the yellow police tape that surrounded the Centre
St. S. crime scene where the region's latest homicide victim
collapsed Sunday has left local residents worrying that the area
has gone downhill.
"Eight, nine years ago, I was able to walk along the path alone
late at night, but not anymore," said long-time resident Mike
BROWN.
Durham police say emergency crews were called to a condominium
building about 9 p.m. Sunday to investigate reports that a man
had collapsed.
Sgt. Paul McCURBIN said the fatally injured man was found on
a grassy boulevard at the corner of Mill and Centre Sts.
Homicide investigators say evidence found at the scene indicates
he was killed on a paved pathway on the west side of Oshawa Creek
running north from Mill St.
The spot is just behind the low-rise condo at the corner of Centre
and Mill Sts. and within Storie Park.
"He was found with vital signs absent after receiving some type
of sharp force trauma to his body," McCurbin said.
The man was rushed to Lakeridge Health Centre in Oshawa, where
he was pronounced dead. Police are withholding his name until
next of kin can be notified. An autopsy is scheduled for today.
The area has a mix of new and older homes and low-rise buildings.
It is near the Motion Nightclub, where a 22-year-old woman was
shot while dancing last February.
The woman didn't realize she had been shot until the next day,
when an X-ray in hospital revealed a bullet lodged in her chest.

(FERGUSON)
In loving memory of my granddaughter Deanna, who passed away
on April 6th, 2004.
Time slips by, but memories stay
Quietly remembered everyday
Happy thoughts of times together
Memories that will last forever.
May the winds of love blow safely
And whisper so you'll hear
That I will always love and miss you
And wish that you were here.
Love and hugs, Grammy Claus.

In loving memory of our sister and aunt, Deanna, who passed away
on April 6th, 2004.
We thought of you with love today
But that is nothing new
We thought about you yesterday
And days before that too.
We think of you in silence
We often speak your name
Now all we have are memories
And your picture in a frame.
Your memory is our keepsake
With which we'll never part
God has you in his keeping
We have you in our hearts.
Love Don, Mary, Andrew, Stephanie and Lorraine.

Auntie Dee: You were there when Connor was born despite being
tired and worn. The short time you shared was such a delight,
watching you with him made our days bright. Without you here
it's not the same, but through pictures, stories and saying your
name, he knows how precious you are to us all. He said on his
own "I love her so much." Thank you, our angel, for watching
him from above. Lovingly remembered by Connor, Michelle and Garth.
