Peacefully in her sleep at Ross Memorial Hospital, Lindsay, Ontario, with her family by her side, on January 31, 2006, in her 73rd year. Patricia, beloved wife and best friend of 53 years to Bill GOSLING. Much loved mother of Robbie, David and Lois MEDAL (Carlos.) Cherished nana of Daniel and Paul. Patricia will be fondly remembered by her many Friends and relatives. Peacefully at the Hanover and District Hospital on Saturday, November 18, 2006. In his 85th year, Fredrick Ralph DAVENPORT, the beloved husband of the late Helen M. DAVENPORT (née HEMSTOCK.) Loving father of Keith and his wife Carol, Murray and his wife Pat, Joyce and her husband Carl WEBER, Audrey and her husband Dave MEDCALF, Lloyd and his wife Hilda, and Brian and his wife Susan. Loved grandfather of seventeen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Dear brother of Grace (Mrs. Jack SUTHERLAND.) Fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his five brothers Elmo, Bill, Cephus, Whitney and Harold. Fred was a member of the Ploughmen's Association. JONES (2001) and dearly loved sister of Freda HARRIS and Audrey MONTEITH both of Saint Thomas. Dear sister-in-law of Edna MEDD of Brantford, Edward and his wife Jean JONES of Saint Thomas; Lila SELLS of Saint Thomas and Bob and his wife Jean CHAMBERS of Grand Bend. Predeceased by a sister Elsie LAMPMAN. Marjorie is also lovingly remembered by a number of nieces and nephews. Marjorie was born in Langton on April 7th, 1928. She had worked for many years at Clevite and also at the Anderson's Department Store. GORHAM, Paul Raymond, B.A., M.S., Ph.D. (Caltech)
Professor Emeritus of Botany, University of Alberta
Passed away on November 9, 2006 in Edmonton at the age of 88. Born in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Paul enjoyed a career first as a research scientist with the federal Department of Agriculture (1943-1945) and the National Research Council of Canada (1945-1969) and then as a professor at the University of Alberta (1969-1983). He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada in 1961. Finding time to contribute to his community, both before and after his retirement, Paul was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Friends of the Devonian Botanic Garden (1971-2006) and a driving force behind the creation of the Kurimoto Japanese Garden. He also served on the Board of Governors of the Edmonton Art Gallery (1980-1992). He received the Centennial Medal in 1967 and the Silver Jubilee Medal in 1978. Paul's passion for life, generosity and compassion for others will be fondly remembered by his family and countless Friends. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 63 years, Evelyn; his three children, John, Arthur (Tannis Carlson) and Harriet; his five grandchildren, Katherine, Daniel (and their mother, Jennifer MEDD,) Megan, Graeme and Hannah his brother, Richard, and sister-in-law, Dori; and other members of his extended family. BOYD, Jack Ross
Peacefully at Credit Valley Hospital, in his 83rd year, Jack passed away on Wednesday, June 21, 2006. He will be sadly missed by Mae (SMITH) his "Child bride" for the past 54 years, his three children Peter (Lorraine,) Mary-Jane MEDDICK (Scott,) Steven (Kathy) and nephew Kevin O'DONNELL (Cheryl.) He was the proud "Papa" of Kendra, Adam, Evan, Brock, Myles, Taylor, Christopher and Darcy, as well as Great-Uncle to Duncan and Liam. The youngest of Abel and Rachel BOYD's ten children, he was raised in the Annex area of Toronto. A Star athlete at Harbord Collegiate, he went on to serve Canada during World War 2 in the Army and the Air Force. Following the service he obtained his B.Ph.E at University of Toronto which led to his career in education. He taught at Long Branch, New Toronto, Soest (Germany), Thistletown and retired as the Principal at Vincent Massey Collegiate. His encore was as Principal at St. Albert's Collegiate, a private school. A long time member of Caledon Ski Club and an East Bay cottager, Jack loved life and introduced the joys of cottaging and skiing to many. His sense of humour was legendary, his last witticism: "Jack is dead, pontoon boat for sale." The family would like to thank the many health care professionals who cared for him. Jack will be cremated and a private service will be held later in Muskoka. Those who wish to help commemorate Jack's contributions and impact to all our lives are invited to join his family on Sunday, June 25th at Caledon Ski Club's West Hill Lodge, 17431 Mississauga Road, Belfountain. Dear wife of the late Willson (Duncan) FITZPATRICK and dear mother of Sharon Jean HOUSSER (Harry) of Petite Riviere, Nova Scotia and Spanish Wells, Bahamas. Dearly loved and loving "Banna" to Lysia MEDEIROS (Jerry) of Toronto, Emily HIGGINS and partner Luke MUDDE of Feversham, Ontario and Nathaniel HOUSSER of Whistler, British Columbia. Great Grandmother of Nicolas Nathaniel MUDDE. Great teacher of table manners, etiquette and "doing things nicely", Jean has left an everlasting impression on her family and has shown us the true meaning of being a "Lady". In her 94th year went peacefully to be with her God and husband John on Sunday, March 5, 2006, at the Mount Hope Centre for Long Term Care, London. The daughter of the late Catherine and Joseph KNOLL, is the last surviving member of her family. She is predeceased by her brothers Joe, Frank, August, Art and John and sisters Agnes and Rita. Bernice was predeceased by her beloved husband John (1983) and her son Gerard (1952). Loved mother of Carolyn ELLIOT/ELLIOTT (Dallas), Penticton, British Columbia, Mary CASHEN (Bob), London, Paul MEYER (Kathy), London, Ann MEDEMA (Paul) Ottawa and Jim MEYER (Lorie) Edmonton, Alberta. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Veronica KNOLL and Gertrude MURRAY and brother-in-law Hugh MEYER and leaves behind 15 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Bernice is a life long member of the Catholic Women's League and the 3rd Order of St. Francis. She was an avid golfer into her early eighties and enjoyed a good game of bridge while residing at Mount Hope. She loved God and her Church and enjoyed being busy socializing and helping others. Visitation at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin Street, St. Thomas on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Prayers will be recited at the funeral home on Wednesday at 2: 00 p.m. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Anne's Church on Thursday at 11: 00 a.m. Interment to follow in Holy Angels' Cemetery. SHIPWAY, Shirley
After a short courageous battle with cancer George Kenneth Shipway passed away peacefully with his family at his side at Saint Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Sunday, February 12, 2006, in his 66th year. Loved husband of Shirley SHIPWAY for 43 years. Loving father of Heather and Mark WATSON of Saint Thomas, Scott SHIPWAY and Debbie MEDIEROS of Orwell. Proud "Papa" of Dylan WATSON. Fondly remembered by his brothers and sisters-in-law: Don and Jean SHIPWAY of Ailsa Craig; Jim and Diane SHIPWAY of London; Bob and Donna SHIPWAY of Millet, Alberta; Tom and Linda SHIPWAY of Stratford; Ralph and Laura DAVIDSON of Ailsa Craig; Stan and Elaine JOHNSON of Grand Bend; and Betty EMERICK of Hensall. Predeceased by his father William SHIPWAY (1953) and his mother Marjorie (SHIPWAY) DAVIDSON (1990;) his brother Jack SHIPWAY and his brother Buck SHIPWAY. Sadly missed by many nieces and nephews and many wonderful Friends. George worked as a pipe line welder for 37½ years and had a strong passion for stock car racing, his memory will live on with the #20 Modified at Delaware Speedway. Stephenson and son Funeral Home, Ailsa Craig on Wednesday, February 15 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, February 16 at 11 a.m. with Reverend Kate BALLAGH- STEEPER officiating. ADLEY, Ellen Rosner
In her 95th year in Montreal on May 18, 2006. Beloved wife of 57 years to the late Henry. Ellen was a loving wife and mother, and loyal friend who courageously faced persecution, war, and the difficulties of immigrant life with grace, honour, and determination. She was an inspiration and guiding light to her three loving sons, whom she was proud to point out all of lead successful professional lives: Thomas (Pamela WISHART,) David (Joy HOWSE,) Anthony (Martha MEDLAND.) She was a great and positive influence on her seven cherished grandchildren: Mark (Marie ROSE,) Darien, Allyson, Jessica, Jonah (Lorna), Theo and Trevor. Her four beautiful and energetic great-grandchildren are Jacob, Reid, Declan, and Mika. A baby girl is due June 6th. She will be missed by Carole ADLEY, her nieces, nephews, and Friends. Predeceased by her brother Fritz. Many thanks for their wonderful help to the many caregivers at the Jewish Eldercare Home. Suddenly, at home, on Saturday, November 18th, 2006 at the age of 87 years. Devoted wife of Norman. Loved Mum of Carol and Grandmum of Paul MEDLEY. Sister of Kathleen, who predeceased her in 2005. Margaret will be dearly missed by Friends and relatives for her sense of humour and devotion to family and Friends. Born in London, Ontario, Margaret lived most of her life in Toronto until our family moved to Paris, Ontario 4 years ago. She was an avid painter, bridge player and crossword puzzle devotee until her sight was gradually dimmed by Macular Degeneration. Funeral Services were entrusted to the Dwayne D. Budgell Funeral Home, Paris, Ontario where a private family service was held. At Margaret's request, cremation has already taken place. A Memorial Service will be held in Toronto at a later date.
