Passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on October 3rd,
after a full and happy life sadly shortened by a malignant brain
tumour. Doctor

Ted, son Philippe and his wife Melissa, mother Cécile, sisters
Micheline and Lise, along with his adoring in-laws, cousins,
nephews and nieces. Born in Quebec City, Doctor
BÉDARD graduated
from medical school and completed his postgraduate specialization
in Pathology at Laval University and obtained his PhD from the
University of Toronto. He was appointed as a Staff Pathologist
at Mount Sinai Hospital in 1972, where he established the diagnostic
Electron Microscopy Program and was the head of Cytopathology.
He was an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto, former
Chairman of the Examination Board in Anatomical and General Pathology
for The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and
consultant for MDS Diagnostic Services. Widely regarded as
one of the most outstanding diagnostic cytopathologists and pathology
educators in Canada, he developed an innovative residency program
which combined electron microscopy and cytopathology and stimulated
the careers of many leading academic pathologists and cytotechnologists.
He authored over 100 publications, was an invited speaker at
scientific meetings around the world, contributed extensively
to hospital, university, and international committees, and was
the recipient of numerous awards and honours. In lieu of flowers,
donations to either the Doctor Yvan C. Bédard Cytology Education
Fund, Mount Sinai Hospital Auxillary, Suite 208, 600 University
Avenue, Toronto, Ontario, M5G 1X5 or the Dorothy Ley Hospice,
170 Sherway Drive, Suite 3, Etobicoke, Ontario, M9C 1A6 would
be greatly appreciated by his family. His funeral will be held

Jewish community. Dad was a real estate developer and owner of
the House of Modern, and he lived his love of ice cream. Following
his marriage to Barbara in 1984, the expanded family moved to
Vancouver. He was an avid skier and golfer, and loved to relax
playing cards with family and Friends. Dad was loved by all for
his kind, gentle soul, and will be missed by all he touched.
