SCHEEL, Dorothy Florence (KNOTT)
Of Wilson Avenue, Delhi passed away peacefully at the London H.S.C., Victoria Hospital on Sunday, February 26, 2006 in her 79th year. Dorothy was a loving partner and wife for 62 years. She was born in Dorchester and married at 17. In childhood, she is remembered as the one always on the go and 78 years later it was still challenging to keep up to her. Dorothy was a devoted and loving mother to Jan and Michael who learned the meaning of determination, fun and integrity. She was a very proud grandmother of Abby and Kate, and was always delighted by their visits. To Dorothy's many dear Friends, her sense of fun and humour, her loyalty, common sense and honesty were always appreciated. With her sharp mind, intelligence, keen sense of business and financial affairs, she and Mike were successful in all they endeavoured. Her love of life showed up on the dance floor, playing a vigorous game of cribbage or euchre, creating a beautiful flower garden, spending a weekend with her sister Audrey, celebrating special occasions with joy, reading a favourite new book, creating delicious meals, spending time alone or taking a drive to Port Dover for a foot long hot dog and some people watching. After retirement one of Dorothy and Mike's favourite things was to jump into the car and go for a drive. It didn't matter where or for how long. But you can be sure it would always be Dorothy in the driver's seat! Throughout her 78 years, Dorothy touched the lives and hearts of many. She was deeply loved and will be deeply missed. Former Dorothy Florence KNOTT. Beloved wife of Michael SCHEEL. Loving mother of Jan SCHEEL (Margie COGILL) and the Late Michael SCHEEL Jr. (1999) and his wife Jane SCHEEL. Cherished grandmother of Abby and Kate SCHEEL. Dearest sister of Audrey McGUGAN and Jean SMITH (Verne.) Also survived by her sisters-in-law Dorothy THOMPSON/THOMSON/TOMPSON/TOMSON (Lee), Anne SCHEEL, Julie SCHEEL and by her brother-in-law Fred MERZ (Evelyn) and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her sisters Velma ROBBINS (Hap) and Millie WEYMOUTH (George,) her brother Allan KNOTT (Ann) and by her brothers-in-law John McGUGAN, John SCHEEL, Fritz SCHEEL (Peg) and Andrew SCHEEL. Friends may call at the Murphy Funeral Home, Delhi for visitation on Wednesday from 2: 00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Thursday, March 2nd at 11: 00 a.m. with Pastor Larry LABATT officiating. LAVERY, Kenneth Reid, B.A. (U of T,) C.M.A., C.M.C., F.C.A.
Quietly and with dignity, Ken ended his long battle with skin cancer at Ian Anderson House in Oakville, on Tuesday, April 18, 2006. Ken is survived by Joan (LANGFORD,) his loving and caring wife of 48 years and his children, Shawn, Joanne (Jim KARAISKAKIS,) Stephen (Terri LAVERY) and Kathy (Ted LABRANCHE.) 'Papa' will also be missed by his devoted grandchildren Jennifer, Alexandra, Joshua, Joffre Reid and William. Ken only wishes he could have enjoyed them when he was younger. Born in London, Ontario in 1930, the only child of Ernest Anderson LAVERY and Norma Loretta REID, Ken began his multitude of careers as a deckhand. This experience led him to realize the importance of education so he took on a job as a tobacco primer to finance his future education. After his service in Germany with the 27th Infantry Brigade and working as short order chef, Ken continued his commitment to lifelong learning as he worked through careers as teacher, devoted husband, author, proud father, managing partner of Touche Ross and P Ross. S. and Partners, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Brewers Association of Canada, and caring grandfather. Finally, Ken initiated a successful class action suit in the United Kingdom versus Cuthbert Heath, 418 Merrett Insurance Syndicate and Ernst and Whinny leading to Lloyd's of London making an offer for 'final' settlement of all outstanding litigation accepted by over 35,000 Names; but not this one. Well travelled and a member of many professional associations and societies, Ken had Friends and colleagues all around the world. Regardless of the many international places he visited, Ken's favourite places were found in his own backyard: Hardy Bay, Mississauga Golf Club, Saint_James Oyster Bar, Royal Montreal and Ottawa Golf Clubs, Rideau Club Billiards Room, Caledon Mountain Trout Club, East India Club, The Ocean Club (Stuart, Florida) and fishing for sail off the St. Lucie Inlet. Other favorite passions included the Forum for Young Canadians and Trudeau Liberals. Visitation to be held at P.X. Dermody Funeral Home (www.pxdermodyfuneral.com), located on 7 East Avenue South in Hamilton, on Thursday, April 20 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A service in celebration of Ken's life will take place at St. Andrew's Church, 47 Reynolds Street in Oakville on Friday, April 21 at 11 a.m. with burial to follow at Holy Supulchre Cemetery.
