LANGHORNE, Barbara Elaine (née SYME)
It is with great sadness the family announces the death of Barbara LANGHORNE age 80 on Friday, March 10th, 2006 at Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital. Beloved wife of Bill LANGHORNE (deceased.) Loving mother of Geoff LANGHORNE, Clay LANGHORNE and his partner Judy, Matthew LANGHORNE, and Pamela Langhorne KOVAC and fiancé Reg TITIAN. Predeceased by her parents John and Charlotte, sister Alberta and brothers Hugh and John (Jack) SYME. Dearly loved sister of Mary Syme LINHOLM and Doctor Paul SYME. Fondly remembered by sisters-in-law Francis and Evelyn SYME, and brother-in-law Sven LINHOLM. Cherished grandmother to Chris KOVAC and his wife Darcy and Tyler KOVAC and his wife Holly. Dear great-grandmother to Benjamin, Mikaela and Poppy KOVAC. Barbara will be sadly missed by her nieces, nephews and Friends including the many music makers teachers who taught for her over the years. Barbara began teaching piano in 1940 and after establishing the Music Makers in 1967 she directed and taught for thirty-seven years. She was a dedicated teacher of young children first and foremost, who wrote and arranged much of the Music Makers material. For three generations, thousands of children had their musical lives nurtured and encouraged by Barbara. At 14 she won the gold medal in the open age Bach competition sponsored by Western University, and was awarded a scholarship to Michigan State University. At age 15 Barbara obtained her associate degree from the Royal Conservatory of Music of Toronto. She continued with 10 years of post-graduate studies on scholarship with B. Hayunga Carmen of the Leschetizsky School and obtained her B.A. from McMaster University. Barbara volunteered at the Mayfield School and was a member of the Zonta Service Club. She was also Chairman of the President's Advisory Council on Children's Music at Humber College. Funeral Services will be held at Dodsworth and Brown Funeral Home at 2241 New Street (at Drury Lane) in Burlington on Friday March 17th at 1 p.m. Visitations are on Wednesday March 15th and Thursday March 16th from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Loving grandmother of 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Born on November 9, 1917 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and passed peacefully on Friday, September 15, 2006 at York Central Hospital in Toronto. Predeceased by her parents, Samuel and Anne TRERICE. Longtime friend and companion of the late Marjorie McINTOSH. Sister of Margaret KOVACH and the late Charlotte WILLIAMS. Aunt of Doctor Steven KOVACH and Shirley KAZANJIAN. Corinne was an athlete, scholar, Registered Dietician, with emphasis on nutrition education. She graduated in Home Economics from University of Saskatchewan. Corinne was also a long time member of Newtonbrook United Church. The funeral service will be held on Monday, September 25th at 11 o'clock in Newtonbrook United Church, 53 Cummer Avenue. Born May 13, 1916 in Toronto. Passed away after a long and courageously fought illness March 13, 2006 in Los Angeles, California. Peter began his lifelong career in the film industry in 1935. In 1940 Peter enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and served bravely as a radar specialist attached to the British Royal Air Force. Repatriated in 1946 he began his successful career with 20th Century Fox in Toronto, rising from film booker to Canadian Managing Director. In 1968 Peter was promoted to Executive Vice President of Domestic Distribution necessitating a move with his family to the Fox Headquarters in New York. In 1972 Fox headquarters were moved to the studio in Los Angeles where he and his family began a new life in Pacific Palisades. During the next several years, Peter created the Fox Classics Division, the first of its kind of which he was President. Peter retired from Fox in 1985. In 1988 he established Four Seasons Distribution Company. During his distinguished career, Peter was responsible for distributing many of the most successful films ever made including "Planet of the Apes", "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid", "Mash", "Star Wars" and "Platoon". He was a long time member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Peter is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 45 years, Elsa, his dearly loved children, Pam KOVITZ (Ron), David MYERS, Gayle PIKNA (Michael), John MYERS (Eva,) his adored grandchildren, Jay, Robin and Amy KOVITZ, Nina THOMAS and many nephews and nieces with special thanks to Barbara BURNS and Jordy SILVERMAN.
