and nephews. Hieke's life began in Holland in 1932. After the
second world war, she was first in her family to immigrate to
Canada and by the mid 1950's all of her family had joined her.
One of her proudest moments was becoming a Canadian citizen.
She spent most of her life in Saint Thomas as a wife and mother,
raising a family. As an Registered Nurse Anesthetist, she was
employed by the Wilson Nursing Home and the Saint Thomas Psychiatric
Hospital where she loved taking care of her patients. Resting
at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin Street, Saint Thomas until Friday
afternoon and then to the First Christian Reformed Church, Elm
Street for funeral service at 1: 00 p.m. Interment to follow in
Elmdale Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home on Thursday
from 7-9 p.m. and at the Church on Friday from 12: 00-1:00 p.m.
Remembrances may be made to the Canadian National Institute for
the Blind.

brother Mike. Ed was born in Vegreville, Alberta, attended the
University of Alberta, then studied medicine at the University
of Western Ontario. He graduated "Class of 43B". During World
War 2 he served in the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps and,
following his release from the military, spent several years
in family practice in Aylmer before moving back to Alberta for
residency work in surgery and pathology at the University of
Alberta in Edmonton. Returning to Ontario, he practised in London,
and in 1956 moved to Saint Thomas, where he served the community
until his retirement in 1991. His marriage, family, his absolute
dedication to the practice of medicine, and his love of gardening
enriched all the days of his long life. He was a resident of
Saint Thomas and member of Central United Church for 50 years.
Though Ed has passed away, hundreds of people inhabit this earth
whom he assisted into life, and thousands of lives have been
bettered through his care. A memorial reception will be held
Wednesday, October 11, at 1 p.m. at Central United Church, 135 Wellington
Street, Saint Thomas.

Better known throughout his life as Hoff, born in Hanover, Ontario
on June 25th 1922, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, December 5th,
2006. After serving as an officer in the North Atlantic with
the Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserves during World War 2,
he went on to graduate from Queen's as a Chemical Engineer, Class
of 48½. He started his career at Procter and Gamble in Hamilton,
where he spent the next 32 years in a management role before
following up with a two year stint overseas in Germany. Following
his retirement, Hoff went on to volunteer his expertise with
Canadian Executive Services Overseas in Poland, Kuala Lumpur
and Sri Lanka. Besides his world travels he enjoyed immensely
any time spent outdoors. A member of Saint_James United Church
in Waterdown since the early 1950's, his love of music was instrumental
in he and wife Marg's participation in the choir for much of
that time. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 61 years, Margaret,
