Passed away at the South Bruce Grey Health Centre, Durham on Saturday, April 22nd, 2006. John Austin Sweeney, of Durham, in his 85th year. Beloved husband for 55 years of the former Isabell KIEFFER. Loving father of Brenda and her husband Allen NIXON of Shelburne, J.D. and his wife Janice of Pickering, and Marianne GRUBB of Cambridge. Cherished grandfather of Amy, Melissa (Steve,) Devon, D'Arcey, Sarah, Kristin, Lindsay and Jamie. Great-grandfather of Raeburn. Survived by his sister Mary NORTHCOTT of Jackson, Michigan, his brother Edward SWEENEY and his wife Shirley of Kitchener, and special family friend Dianne McEACHNIE. Predeceased by his brother Bernard SWEENEY. Friends may call at the McCulloch-Watson Funeral Home, Durham on Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., where members of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 308 will hold a memorial service at 6: 45 p.m. and a Vigil Prayer service will be held at 8: 30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Peters Catholic Church, Durham on Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock. KIELSTRA, Hieke " Hilda" (formerly KONING)
The family of Hieke (Hilda) KIELSTRA are sad to announce her passing on Monday, January 30, 2006. Hieke was in her 74th year and was predeceased by husbands Hank KONING and Peter KIELSTRA, children Nina and Terry KONING and brother Bill TWYNSTRA. She is survived by, and will be sadly missed by son Jeff, Phyllis and Douglas KONING, daughter Patricia, Steve, Peter and Joey LACHOWSKY; and daughter Glenda, Lindsay and Matthew BARENDREGT. She will also be missed by grandchildren Kevin, Ryan and Terry KONING and their mother Eileen and son-in-law Steve BARENDREGT. Hieke will also be sadly missed by her sister Ena KIELSTRA, brothers Rick, Clarence, George and Sid TWYNSTRA, many in-laws, and nieces and nephews. Hieke's life began in Holland in 1932. After the second world war, she was first in her family to immigrate to Canada and by the mid 1950's all of her family had joined her. One of her proudest moments was becoming a Canadian citizen. She spent most of her life in Saint Thomas as a wife and mother, raising a family. As an Registered Nurse Anesthetist, she was employed by the Wilson Nursing Home and the Saint Thomas Psychiatric Hospital where she loved taking care of her patients. Resting at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin Street, Saint Thomas until Friday afternoon and then to the First Christian Reformed Church, Elm Street for funeral service at 1: 00 p.m. Interment to follow in Elmdale Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home on Thursday from 7-9 p.m. and at the Church on Friday from 12: 00-1:00 p.m. Remembrances may be made to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind.

Beloved husband of Corry (KIELSTRA) VENEMA and loved father of Charles VENEMA of Yarmouth Centre, Grace and her husband John PASMA of Edmonton, Alberta, Renee and her husband Dick SAARLOOS of Aylmer and Carla and her husband John OUDYK of Brantford. Sadly missed by 14 grandchildren. Dear brother of Sjoerd VENEMA of Holland. Peter was born in Holland on May 19, 1926, the son of the late Sake and Riemkje FEENSTRA) VENEMA. He came to Canada in 1953 and was a retired building contractor. He was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church, past choir member and served on the Church Council. Peter was a former Chairman of the London District Secondary School Board and had served on the Heritage Foundation. Frank passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family at his residence on Wednesday, July 12, 2006, in his 47th year. He was the beloved husband and best friend to the former Tonda NICOL. His love will live on in his children: Daryl, Ashly and Brett. Frank was the son of the former Hazel KIEMELE and the late George McDONALD. beloved brother of Georgina GIRDLER and her husband Bev, Mary Lou NUHN and her husband Hugh, and Frances GIBBONS and her husband Jerry. He will be sadly missed by his grand_son Jordan. Son-in-law of Bill and Dorothy NICOL. Brother-in-law of Terry NICOL and his wife Cheryl, and Trina TRASK and her friend Brad HAAS. Of Saint Thomas on Sunday, June 11, 2006, in her 79th year after a long fight with lung cancer. Dearly loved wife of 56 years of Albert Donald McNABB. Daughter of the late Albert (1982) and May (PEARSON) GOLDRICK (1985) and loved mother of Gloria WHITE/WHYTE (GOLDRICK) Kelona, British Columbia. Loved grandmother of Michelle and her husband Daryl WOLFF of Edmonton. Dear sister of Alberta and her husband Cecil PICKARD of Saint Thomas and the late Echo (Mrs. Gordon SATCHELL) (1943) and Amy (Mrs. Ted PORTLOCK) (1995) and a sister Kathrine and a brother Johnny who died in infancy. Shirley leaves many nieces and nephews. She worked at Timken Roller Bearing Co. from 1947 to 1959, in the Office of Doctor E.W. KIERLUK from 1970 to 1985. She was a 60 year member of Knox Presbyterian Church, was past President of the Country Circle of the Ladies Aid and a long time member of the Saint Thomas Curling Club. A public Memorial service will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church on Saturday, June 24th at 11: 00 a.m. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations may be made to the S.T.E.G. Passed on while exercising his passion for gardening October 1, 2006 in his 92nd year. Beloved husband of Fay Ensley (SCARROW) KIERLUK (July 13, 2005,) with whom he shared a marriage of 60 years. Father of Peter and wife Gabrielle WALKER of London, Tom of Saint Thomas and fiancée Linda MILLS of London, John of Port Stanley and partner Latisha STOTT of Saint Thomas, grandfather of David and Samuel. He was the brother of Elsie LAST of Brampton, and is also survived by sister-in-law Merle McCLATCHIE of Simcoe, and by numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by sisters Mary and Anne and brother Mike. Ed was born in Vegreville, Alberta, attended the University of Alberta, then studied medicine at the University of Western Ontario. He graduated "Class of 43B". During World War 2 he served in the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps and, following his release from the military, spent several years in family practice in Aylmer before moving back to Alberta for residency work in surgery and pathology at the University of Alberta in Edmonton. Returning to Ontario, he practised in London, and in 1956 moved to Saint Thomas, where he served the community until his retirement in 1991. His marriage, family, his absolute dedication to the practice of medicine, and his love of gardening enriched all the days of his long life. He was a resident of Saint Thomas and member of Central United Church for 50 years. Though Ed has passed away, hundreds of people inhabit this earth whom he assisted into life, and thousands of lives have been bettered through his care. A memorial reception will be held Wednesday, October 11, at 1 p.m. at Central United Church, 135 Wellington Street, Saint Thomas.

HOFFMAN, Harris Oscar
Better known throughout his life as Hoff, born in Hanover, Ontario on June 25th 1922, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, December 5th, 2006. After serving as an officer in the North Atlantic with the Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserves during World War 2, he went on to graduate from Queen's as a Chemical Engineer, Class of 48½. He started his career at Procter and Gamble in Hamilton, where he spent the next 32 years in a management role before following up with a two year stint overseas in Germany. Following his retirement, Hoff went on to volunteer his expertise with Canadian Executive Services Overseas in Poland, Kuala Lumpur and Sri Lanka. Besides his world travels he enjoyed immensely any time spent outdoors. A member of Saint_James United Church in Waterdown since the early 1950's, his love of music was instrumental in he and wife Marg's participation in the choir for much of that time. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 61 years, Margaret, daughter Sheila BORMAN (Tom BENNETT,) sons Paul (Jane,) Scott (Laura,) daughter-in-law Susan, grandchildren Jennifer KIERS (Alvin), Stephen (Samantha), Jarret (Vonnie), Caitlin, Peter, Dallas, Rory and Kenzie; great-grandchildren Megan KIERS, Cole and Piper. Survived by sister Eileen SEIP and brother Doug. Predeceased by son Richard. Special thanks to the staff and nurses at Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital, and Grindstone Creek Manor.
