IRWIN,
Ted▲
In loving memory of Ted
IRWIN, dear brother/uncle, and friend
to all who knew him, who passed away on March 5, 2005.
There is a bridge of memories
From here to heaven above
That keeps you very close to us
It's called a bridge of love.
As time goes on without you
And days turn into years.
They hold a million memories
And a thousand silent tears.
You were a very special friend
What more is there to say,
Except to wish with all our hearts,
That you were here today.
-Forever remembered and loved, especially your laughter. Bob,
Laura and Kevin.

ROWE,
Harold
Harold was born on Manitoulin Island December 21, 1921, son of
Ted and Lily
ROWE. He was later joined by a sister Edna and a
brother Wilbert.
In 1942 Harold joined the Canadian Army, Second Division landing
in France in 1944 to begin the fighting. He was wounded twice
during the war. His brother Wilbert was killed and is buried
in Holland. The war ended May 8, 1945, he arrived back in Canada,
November 27, 1945 and was finally discharged January 21, 1946.
He bought a truck and a small farm outside Little Current. On
February 21, 1950 he married Doreen
STRINGER. A son, Garry, was
born June 14, 1951 and Carol arrived September 1, 1952. In 1957
they moved to the 8th of Proton buying a farm from Lou
BENSON.
They bought milk cows, converted the barn adding a bulk tank
and began shipping milk. In 1967 they sold the farm and bought
the New Century Restaurant from John and Irene
MILLS.
Harold
started a job at the newly built factory Trim Trends, working
in the day time at the factory and then switching to washing
dishes at the restaurant in the evening. He continued at Trim
Trends until his retirement in 1986.
He took flying lessons from Carl
IRWIN and got his pilot's license
which had been a dream of his for years. He bought a two-seater
Cessna which he kept at Lorne
ACHESON's until they built their
present house, a hanger for the plane and a landing strip. He
attended many fly-ins, looked for lost cattle, flew back and
forth to the Manitoulin to visit his relatives and really enjoyed
flying.
They sold the restaurant in 1969 and in 1970 Greg joined the
family. Early '80s a boat replaced the plane and a trailer was
placed at Victoria Harbour where they spent many weekends fishing
and relaxing.
Harold had many hobbies. He loved to read, listen to music, and
watch horse racing on T.V. He was an avid bird watcher and had
many visitors at his feeders. He loved to travel and had taken
many trips to the American West, Canadian West, East coast and
Florida. He was overseas twice, once in 1984 with Doreen and
Carol and again in 2004 with Allan
SMITH. He visited Germany,
Holland, France Belgium, Luxembourg and England. While there
he visited his brother's grave and many other interesting places.
He took pride in his huge garden always trying to outsmart the
birds and keep them away from his strawberries. He had a passion
for teaching his children, their Friends and grandchildren to
love the sport of fishing, a tradition that hopefully they will
pass on to their children. Some days his line never got in the
water as he was too busy taking off sunfish and small bass for
everyone else. He went on many fishing trips with his sons and
grand_sons. He loved to fish and even liked it better if he caught
something. He was also a very good cook and was always looking
for new recipes to try. You could always count on there being
cookies, squares, donuts around for the grandchildren and the
candy dish was always full.
He was a great Dad supporting and helping his children. He built
his own home and helped build Garry's and Greg's homes. He was
always there to answer any questions and offer advice. He spent
endless hours helping at Lorne and Carol's farm, ploughing, cultivating,
baling, drawing grain, fixing things and doing any little jobs
that needed to be done. His truck could be seen daily spring
and fall heading towards the farm. He was a cherished and special
grandfather who was always there whether it be to babysit, or
teach them to ride their first bike, or read a story or remove
that sunfish from their hook. There were always some treats somewhere
in the house for the grandchildren when they popped in after
school.
Harold passed away peacefully at home on April 13, 2006, and
will be sadly missed but lovingly remembered by his wife Doreen,
son Gary and Barb, daughter Carol and Lorne, son Greg and Kelly,
his grandchildren Don and Stacy
ROWE,
Theresa and Sandy
YOUNG,
Janette, Denise, Lori, Andrew, Kati
RIDDELL, Connor and Meghan
ROWE and great-grandchildren Avery, Jared and Jordon
ROWE and
Carter and Abigail
YOUNG.
To live in the hearts we leave behind, is not to die.

O'NEAL,
Barbara (née
SWANN)
Passed away, peacefully, at Unitarian House in Ottawa on 15 March 2006,
at the age of 82. Barbara was born in Chungking, China, the first-born
child of the late Doctor and Mrs. H.F.
SWANN, missionaries with
the United Church of Canada. She leaves behind brother Neil
SWANN,
of Toronto, and sister Carol
IRWIN, of Sun City, Arizona. She
was the loving, caring mother of sons Deems, of Surrey British
Columbia, and Brian, of Gatineau, Québec. Barbara was also the
much loved mother-in-law of Maggie
O'NEAL, and Marthe
VARY.
Barbara's
grandchildren, Noah and Aidan of British Columbia, Simone of
Alberta, and Arielle and Caroline, of Québec, were her pride
and joy and will miss her dearly. Barbara also leaves behind
a great-grand daughter, Lucy, who has inherited her joyful and
determined spirit. Barbara had a lifelong involvement in the
visual arts. She and her husband, the late John
O'NEAL, ran an
art gallery in rural Nova Scotia that provided exhibition space
for many young artists at the beginning of their careers. When
the family moved to Ottawa in 1961, Barbara found work at the
National Gallery of Canada where she was able to share her profound
understanding of, and love for, art and artists with visitors
to the gallery. She derived special pleasure from showing the
Gallery's collections to young children who were the source of
unrestrained enthusiasm and opinion about art, willing to say
what adults could, or would not, say. Barbara also had an endless
fascination for stimulating ideas, good writing and books, and
people. Canadian Broadcasting Corporation radio and the New Yorker
magazine were valued companions, and she encountered people who
interested her wherever she went. Her interest in people was
rooted in compassion and a desire for social justice for all
in retirement, she did volunteer work, and was a staunch supporter
of the New Democratic Party. In the remaining years of her life,
Barbara lived at Unitarian House where she developed a close
Friendship with Ray
COOPER, who will miss her dearly. The family
is profoundly grateful to the staff of Unitarian House for the
care and support they gave to Barbara, and to Ray for the love
and Friendship he provided. Barbara's Friends are invited to
join her family in celebrating her life at a memorial service
to be held at the Unitarian Church, 30 Cleary Avenue, at 4 p.m.,
Sunday, March 26, 2006. In lieu of flowers, donations in Barbara's
