Mississauga cyclist struck by car dies

A cyclist was killed Monday night in a collision with a car in Mississauga, Peel Police said yesterday, the second bicycle fatality in that city in recent weeks.
Police said 42-year-old Shin-Fang HO, of Mississauga, was struck by an oncoming vehicle as he tried to turn left onto Cawthra Road from Atwater Drive. Both he and the vehicle that killed him had a green signal to enter the intersection.

After a short battle with cancer, Tom passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 7, 2006, at the age of 81, surrounded by his family at the Trillium Health Centre - Mississauga. Tom will be sadly missed by his wife, Dorothy, and his three children, Peter, Stephen and Margaret. The family wishes to thank Drs. Frank and Michael WONG, William McMULLEN, William SINGER and Bashir MOSAM as well as the Trillium Nursing Staff, and Community Care Access Centre staff. HOAR, William Stewart
Born August 31, 1913 in Moncton, New Brunswick. Passed away in the early morning hours of June 13th, 2006 at Vancouver General Hospital. Predeceased by his wife Myra (Margaret) in 1996, daughter Kenzie in 1996 and his brother Gerald, he leaves behind his sister Edie OGILVIE (Cal) of Miramachi, New Brunswick, sister-in-law Laura HOAR of Moncton, New Brunswick, son Stewart (Linda) in Green Bay, Wisconsin, son David (Noreen RUDD) in Ladner and daughter Melanie GALLOWAY (Bill) in Vancouver. He was a special grampie for 7 grandchildren and great grampie for 7 who will find his departure leaves special memories. For Bill, family was important and his cousins, nieces and nephews were all a large part of this. He continued to keep alive the gatherings of family and Friends over tea or for the "Saturday Lunch" (or Saturday Lunch on Sunday evening with wine), a tradition that was started with his wife Myra in the fifties when university students and their families were frequent visitors. Bill taught and mentored many students, first at the University of New Brunswick and then at the University of British Columbia where he became the first Professor of Fisheries in 1945. After a distinguished career as a scientist during which he served on many national and international committees and for which he received an Order of Canada and Honourary Degrees from several universities, he went on to write and self publish genealogies under his own publishing enterprise called "Tangled Roots Press". He was a remarkable man who always looked for the good in others and would counsel "sleep on it before reacting". He always said he would pass on as a result of "too many birthdays" and "I'll have to watch out for natural causes". The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Arbutus Care Centre and the 6th floor A.C.E. unit at Vancouver General Hospital who provided the compassion and care he needed to preserve his independence. A celebration of his life will be arranged for later this summer. Suddenly, on Saturday, September 16, 2006 at the Lakeridge Health Centre in Bowmanville, at age 66. Doctor Ralph PRICE of Manchester, beloved husband of Patricia (née HOARE.) Loved▼ father of Kim PRICE and her husband Bruce BURGESS of Toronto, Matthew PRICE of Friedrichshafen, Germany, and Taylor PRICE and his fiancée Sylvia BIRO of Toronto. Loving grandfather of Mackenzie and Madelaine BURGESS. He had a special passion for history and for the art, furnishings, and artifacts of early Canada. He was tireless in his search for important examples across the country. He also loved contemporary art, in particular the work of untrained, naïve artists some of which he discovered and brought to prominence. SHARPE, Lavina Mae (née HOARE) (1913-2006)
Lavina Mae SHARPE died peacefully in the presence of family members in her 94th year, on December 11th after a long and gracious life. Mae was the devoted, loving wife of the late John Ernest SHARPE " Ernie" (b. 1904 - d. 1947.) She is the cherished, dedicated mother of James Arthur SHARPE. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren Jason (Tanya,) Peter (Erin,) and Kathleen SHARPE. Dear great-grandmother (G.G. Mae) of Henry, Sophia, Zoe, and Georgia Mae. She also leaves dear nieces and nephews and younger Friends. Mae enjoyed her advanced years with the frequent company of her family. She was the oldest child of Arthur Levi HOARE and Florence (née TONKIN) HOARE of Oshawa, and was predeceased by her brother Jack (Vivian) and sisters Verona (Edward) MEADES and Grace (Harold) PICKERSGILL. Most of her years (68) were lived in Brantford. Her family expresses gratitude to the tender caregivers at her Toronto residence, the Balmoral Club, to Sprint, and to the medical team and ward staff of the Toronto Western Hospital who eased the course of her final days. The family will receive Friends at the Humphrey Funeral Home - A.W.
