Young mom of two killed by lightning
By Ian ROBERTSON, Sun Media, Sat., July 22, 2006
Toronto -- Angela
EXELL was hurrying to leave Wasaga Beach with
her children and other relatives when a lighting bolt killed
the young mother of two, says her grieving mom.
"It was just a family day at the beach," her mother, Brenda
HAUCK,
47, said yesterday after leaving a Barrie funeral home, where
arrangements were made for her daughter's funeral.
"It was a wonderful day, until that happened."
As the sky darkened over the popular Wasaga Beach Provincial
Park beach early Thursday afternoon, the family began packing
up.
On the beach with Angela, 26, were son David, 5, daughter Paige,
almost 2, mother-in-law Judy
SCHELL, brothers-in-law Ray and
Darren EXELL, plus sister-in-law Shannon
EXELL, 26, who was with
her sister Belinda
ATKINSON, 23.
Angela was in the open when she was struck down.
Const. Mark
KINNEY was conducting an interview about the Wednesday
drowning of Toronto teen Erfan
TARAJ when he was alerted.
The officer rushed to the beach and tried to save the young woman,
using cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, a colleague said. "He booked
off work today… it was pretty traumatic."
In addition to killing Angela, Shannon and Belinda suffered minor
injuries. The three women were taken to Collingwood General and
Marine Hospital.
Born, raised and schooled in Barrie, the victim was in the Brownies
as a girl, and "loved to paint and draw,"
HAUCK said, her voice
catching at the memories.
"She was very artistic," something her daughter was passing on
to David and Paige, their grandmother said. "She did crafts with
her kids all the time."
Though trained as a manicurist,
HAUCK said her daughter in recent
times "was a homemaker."
Angela and Michael
EXELL, a roofer, married four years ago and
moved into a home in Angus, a village near Canadian Forces Base
Borden, northwest of Barrie.
"If you asked anyone, she was the most loving, beautiful young
lady," her mom said. "She was out to save the world and loved
to help people."
Michael and the children are staying with her and husband Ken.
