Passed away on January 8, 2006 at Etobicoke General Hospital, in her 84th year. Loving sister to Lil EVANS, Margaret DAVIS and Allan DAVIS. Hilda will be missed by her children Eleanor GETCHEL, Donald JONES, George JONES, Deborah SYMINGTON and two sons-in-law. She will be fondly remembered and cherished by her ten grandchildren. Family and Friends will be received at the Bernardo Funeral Home (855 Albion Rd., one block east of Islington Ave.) on Thursday, January 12, 2006 where a memorial service will be held at 1 p.m.

Of Caressant Care on Bonnie Place, Saint Thomas, passed away at the Saint Thomas-Elgin General Hospital, on Sunday, May 21, 2006, in her 96th year. Wife of the late Carl FREEMAN (July 20, 1994.) Mother of Ray FREEMAN and his wife Marilyn of London. Grandmother of Heather NEWTON and her husband David of Strathroy, and Paul FREEMAN and his wife Sheila of London. Great grandmother of Daniel and Lindsay NEWTON of Strathroy, and Taylor and Carter FREEMAN of London. Sister of Raymond GETLIFFE and his wife Lorna of London. Sister-in-law of Mac FREEMAN and his wife Donna of Nanticoke, and Florence FREEMAN of Saint Thomas. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Born in Blaby, England, November 22, 1910, the daughter of the late John W. and Eunice (REST) GETLIFFE, she came to Saint Thomas from London, Ontario in 1930. Winifred was a member of Central United Church and a member of the Wo He Lo Unit of the church. Friends will be received at the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington Street, Saint Thomas on Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. where the funeral and committal service will be held on Wednesday at 1: 30 p.m. Interment in Elmdale Memorial Park. Memorial donations to Central United Church gratefully acknowledged.

At L.H.S.C. University Hospital on Saturday, November 11, 2006, Joan Margaret APPLEBY, in her 89th year. Re-United in Heaven with her husband William James APPLEBY (1998.) Survived by her 3 sisters Louise VERNILLE, Betty DAHL, and Olive GETSINGER. Dearly loved by daughter Gloria APPLEBY. Cherished by granddaughter Susan MOORE and 2 great-grandchildren Nicole and Damien MOORE. Joan will also be missed by several other family members and Friends. Friends will be received at the Evans Funeral Home, 648 Hamilton Rd. (1 block east of Egerton) on Friday, November 17, 2006 from 12: 00 noon until the time of the funeral service at 1: 00 p.m. with Rev. Brian McKAY officiating. Interment in Mount Pleasant cemetery. Peacefully in his sleep at the Orillia Soldier's Memorial Hospital on Friday October 13th, 2006 in his 82nd year. Thomas McKEAN of Orillia formerly of Brechin much loved husband of Elizabeth (Betty) McKEAN (née LEITH.) Loving father of Heather McKEAN (Edward GETTINGS) of Toronto, Gail (Brian PIGGOTT) of Orillia, Shelia (Michael MILES) of Marchmont. Loving grandfather of Jennifer, Jack, David, Amy and Laura. Survived by sister Betty (James McCABE) and family of Glasgow, Scotland. Thomas was a veteran of the Royal Navy in World War 2. He was a member of the Royal Arch Masons; a Life Member of Free Masons of the Masonic Lodge; a member of the Royal Canadian Legion currently in Orillia, previously in Brechin. By Tom's request there will be no visitation or services at this time. Cremation has taken place. Peacefully at Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital on Wednesday, July 12th, 2006, Samuel "Ted" GREAVES of Caradoc Township at the age of 91. Beloved husband of Agnes for 66 years. Loving father of Marie (Bill) CARRUTHERS of London, Terry (Nancy) of Ridgetown, and Ted (Jane) of Mount Brydges. Ted was born in Dunley, England on June 6th, 1915 and is predeceased by his parents George GREAVES and Bessie HICKMAN. He is survived by brothers Roland and Harold of England. Predeceased by his sister Elsie and brothers William, Stanley, and George. Grandfather to Brenda (Jeff) Scott, Kevin SMALL, Alan (Tina) SMALL, Dennis (Margaret) SMALL, Michael (Noreen) SMALL, Bonnie (John) GETTY, Geoffrey GREAVES, Ted GREAVES Jr., Paul GREAVES, and Jillian GREAVES. Also survived by 11 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Ted was a Barnardo Homeboy. He arrived in Canada at the age of 12, and spent the rest of his life on the farm which he came to work on. He was a major player in the film about the Home Children "Nobody's Child". Passed away peacefully after a short illness at Grey Bruce Health Services, Wiarton on Saturday, November 25, 2006. Sue LIGHT of Wiarton at the age of 63. Loving wife of Bob. Survived by her sister Jane HARRIS of Middletown, Connecticut, her brother Gordon GETZ of Largo, Florida and her niece Liz HARRIS of Flagstaff, Arizona. Predeceased by her parents John and Dorothy GETZ. Cremation has taken place. Distinguished public servant.
Died peacefully at Ottawa, February 27th, 2006, aged 86. Deeply mourned by sons David of Brockville and John of Toronto, daughter Kathie GETZ of Ottawa, son-in-law Richard GETZ, daughter-in-law Meg SALTER, granddaughters Jodie and Carly GETZ and Jackie and Claire GRANDY, brother Thomas of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, and sisters Mary Anne WATSON of Oliphant and Pat STEWARD/STEWART/STUART of Toronto. Predeceased by his loving wife of nearly sixty years, Alex (SHAW) GRANDY, and by his sister Betty BROWN. Jim was born at Fort William, Ontario, 1919, son of the late Clarence and Annie (ADAM/ADAMS) GRANDY. Educated at Alliston High School, University of Western Ontario (B.A., Economics, 1941) and at Christ Church, Oxford University (M.Phil., P.P.&E., 1948). Volunteered for Canadian Army, 1939 saw active service in Europe; was Mentioned in Despatches. Decommissioned with rank of Major, 1946. Rhodes Scholar, 1946. Joined Canadian civil service 1948 and served in the Departments of External Affairs, Finance, and the Privy Council Office. He participated in all of Canada's major trade negotiations. In 1967 he was appointed the first Deputy Minister of the new Department of Consumer and Corporate Affairs. He retired in 1975 as Deputy Minister of Industry, Trade and Commerce. Subsequently he worked as a business consultant with his colleague Simon REISMAN, and was also a Director of several public companies, including Canadian Marconi Company, where he served as Chairman of the Board. He chaired several dispute resolution panels under the Canada-U.S. Free Trade Agreement, and chaired a commission to reduce inter-provincial trade barriers. He was also Chairman of the Royal Ottawa Hospital Foundation. In 1989 he was named a Commendatore nell'Ordine al Merito of the Italian Republic. His career in goverment was characterized by dedication, intelligence, and integrity. He was regarded with great respect by all those who worked with him. To his family and Friends, he was generous, considerate, and loving. He will be greatly missed.
