call Wiarton Marina. Alf was a veteran of World War 2 in the
R.C.N.V.R. and R.C.N. as leading seaman gunner with defensively
equipped Merchant Ships. He was a loyal and dedicated member
of D.E.M.S. Branch of the Royal Canadian Navy Association and
also a survivor of the sinking of the S.S. Rosecastle. Funeral

Fatal crashes spark police alert

Sparked by the deaths of 10 people on London-area roads over
the past three weeks, the Ontario Provincial Police yesterday
warned drivers to "slow down and drive more responsibly."
In a statement, police said: "All these collisions were preventable
and these motorists didn't need to get injured or killed."
Yesterday, the name of a driver killed in a Tuesday crash along
Highway 19, near Tillsonburg, was released.
Shelly EMMOTT, 29, of Ingersoll, died at the scene, police said.

Canadian soldier killed in multi-vehicle accident

Parry Sound -- A Canadian soldier was among three people killed
in a multi-vehicle collision on the weekend near Parry Sound.
Ontario Provincial Police say four vehicles and 14 people were
involved in the crash.
The soldier, identified as 21-year-old Mitchell
EMMS of Fredericton,
New Brunswick, was driving a small car occupied by six people
when it crossed the centre line of Highway 69.
EMMS, based at Canadian Forces Base Borden, near Barrie, was
killed along with two 20-year-old women from the Parry Sound
area who were passengers in the car.
Three other passengers in that vehicle -- also soldiers based
at Canadian Forces Base Borden -- suffered serious injuries.
Two people in a second car -- 61-year-old Bruce
SUMMERS and his
54-year-old wife, Martha -- also suffered serious injuries, and
six people in two other vehicles were treated for minor injuries.
The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
