COOKE obtained his B.Sc. (Mathematics and Physics)
from Mount Allison University and his M.Sc. (Pharmacology) and
Ph.D. (Physiology) from Dalhousie University. Following post
doctoral studies in Lund, Sweden, he joined the Department of
Physiology at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario
where he was appointed Professor in 1988. During his nearly 30 years
at the University, he served as Dean, Faculty of Applied Health
Sciences, Acting Director, School of Communicative Sciences and
Disorders, Professor of Physiology, Professor of Physical Therapy,
Honourary Associate Professor of Clinical Neurological Sciences
and Director, Partners in Applied Virtual Environments. He was
active in the governance of the University. He was awarded Professor
Emeritus in 2001. In addition to his life-long involvement in
academia, he found great enjoyment in reading, gardening, singing,
traveling, driving his '54 MG, restoring his family home in Wallace,
Nova Scotia, and spending time with family and Friends. He felt
blessed by the many truly great Friends he and his family have.
His greatest love and legacy are his wife and two daughters.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the James A.
Harris Funeral Home, 220 Saint_James Street at Richmond, London
where the funeral service will be conducted at 11: 00 a.m. on
Wednesday, April 5 by the Rev. J. Bruce
SMALL.
Cremation with
interment later in Wallace, Nova Scotia. Memorial contributions
to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Canadian Cancer Society
would be gratefully acknowledged.
