NIVIN, Mary Jean Garland
Peacefully, on Saturday, February 11, 2006 in Huntsville, Ontario, in her 90th year. Born in Toronto on October 26, 1916. Beloved wife of the late Fielden Cruso (Bunny) NIVIN who predeceased her in 1994. Loving mother of Honor Garland NIVIN and Cynthia Cruso NIVIN (Gavan BYRNE.) Dear sister of Dr. George D. GARLAND of Huntsville. Predeceased by her sister Betty, and brother Gerald N. GARLAND. Dearest " Nana" to Tanja Anne DJURDJEVIC (Moscow) and Emily Sarah VESS (Cincinatti.) Fondly remembered by her niece Dr. Mary Garland KRUYS (Rob) and her nephews Nicholas GARLAND and G. David GARLAND (Kathleen.) Jean was a graduate of Havergal College, a camper at Glen Bernard Camp in Sundridge, Ontario, a life member of the Badminton and Racquet Club of Toronto, and served in the Red Cross Transport Corps. in Toronto during World War 2. A family service was held in Huntsville on Wed. February 15, 2006. Internment to follow at St. Peter's Anglican Church in Cobourg, Ontario. The family wishes to thank the staff at Muskoka Landing for their care during this past year. Special thanks are sent to her private caregivers in Huntsville, Maggie WEST and Ruth BRENNER, for their dedication and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jean's memory to the Huntsville Hospital Foundation, 100 Frank Miller Drive, Unit 4, Huntsville, Ontario, P1H 1H7.

ELKAN, Valentina (née BLAUBERG)
Born in St. Petersburg, Russia on March 8, 1916, died at home in Toronto on September 25, 2006. Predeceased by her beloved first husband Lucas ACLIROS, and her second husband Tibor ELKAN. Mourned by her dear older sister Ludmilla DJURKOVIC and husband Vlado (Melbourne, Australia,) and cousin Karin HASBARGEN and husband Freerk (Denmark, Australia). Much missed by her sons Serge Liros (Blue Hill, Maine) and friend Kathy BEAL, Alex LIROS (Toronto) and George LIROS (Easton, Pennsylvania.) Lovingly remembered by her four grand-daughters: Nicole SIMMS and husband Jonathan and their two children Dylan and Hannah (Schenectady, New York), Christina LIROS and Joe RICHARDS (Greenville, Maine), Sara VEGA- LIROS and Janice and their family (Turner's Falls, Massachusetts), and Alexandra LIROS (Greenville, Maine.) Also missed by her best and oldest Friends: Herta and Tony HITZELBERGER (Kelowna, B.C.,) Agnes LANTOS and her sister (Toronto,) and Ludmilla SEMENA (Ottawa.) Very fondly remember by many Friends and neighbours, and by her devoted bridge partners. She was an elegant lady, a former art dealer with a keen and enquiring eye, and a generous and loving matriarch of the Liros family.
