POLLARD, George William (1913-2006)
Passed from death into life at Riverbend Place, Galt, September 17, 2006. Beloved husband for 69 years of May (née ROCHE,) also of Riverbend Place, Galt. Beloved father of Brian (Gail) of Ibiza, Spain, Judith (Rev. John SMITH), Hamilton, Ontario, and Janice (Robert ROWE,) Kingston, Ontario. Dear brother and brother-in-law of the late Ernest POLLARD and his wife Bessie, the late Gladys and the late Walter BASAINT_Grandfather and great-grandfather of Nieves POLLARD (Gaston DEZA) and their daughter Jazmin of Ibiza, Spain, Hayley Smith POST (Isaac) of Washington, D.C., Drew SMITH, Hamilton, Jock SMITH, Hamilton, Travis (Susan) ROWE and their sons Miles and Everett of Aurora, Ben (Colleen) ROWE and their daughters Peyton and Katie of Belleville, Olivia and Jeff OVENS of Kingston. George was born in Preston, Ontario in 1913 to Catherine (née GATEHOUSE) and George POLLARD. In his infancy, the family returned to England (Fenny Stratford, Bucks) and returned to Preston ten years later. He was well known as a middle distance runner in his young years in Waterloo County. He served with the Highland Light Infantry during World War 2 as an Officer (The Battle of the Scheldt). After the War, he joined the Ministry of Correctional Services. He served as one of Ontario's first Adult Probation Officers, then institutions in Galt, Guelph Reformatory and was Superintendent of Brookside School in Cobourg for 20 years. They retired in Preston. He was a lifelong member of King Street Baptist Church in Preston and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Cobourg for many years. His was a life well-lived. Our dad and grandfather will be greatly missed. "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." 2nd Timothy 4.7 A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, September 20, 2006 at Parklawn Cemetery, Cambridge, Ontario at 1 o'clock, with a reception to follow at Riverbend Place with May and her family. Passed away at home on Thursday, February 9th, 2006. Beloved wife of the late Louis LUKOFSKY, devoted and loving mother of Fern LUKOFSKY and Leonard DEZENHOUSE, Elaine and Robbie GOLDBERG, and Marla LUKOFSKY. Beloved grandmother of Suzanne and Lisa GOLDBERG. Survived by her sister Irene TEPPERMAN and brother-in-law Myer LUKOFSKY. Will be greatly missed by her nieces, nephews, cousins, and Friends. Devoted father of 3 proud sons, Fred, Peter and Gino and daughters-in-law Maria, Angela and Roxanna. Loved grandfather of Melisa and James. Brother of Domenica and late Pietro CICCOCELLI, Lindo and Maria LATINI, Santina and Vittorio TUCCIARONE, late Ida and Angelo DEL BIANCO and late Gilda and Francesco GABRIELE. Brother-in-law to Ida and late Giuseppe PICCIONI of Italy, Rosa and late Francesco TICCHIARELLI of Hamilton, late Paolo and Teresa PICCIONI of Toronto, Ermoli and Angeladea PICCIONI of Windsor. Survived by many nephews, nieces and cousins. Cenzo was a World War 2 Veteran of the Italian King's Army taken as a prisoner-of-war by the Germans. Came to Canada in 1949 to start a new life which he began with the arrival of his fiancée April 1st, 1951 and then their marriage April 28th, 1951. After many years of hard work he and his wife opened their own business in 1961 that ran for 16 years. After retiring he loved to vacation in Florida and spend time surrounded by his large family. Family will receive Friends at Scott Funeral Home, 420 Dundas St East, Mississauga (one block west of Cawthra Rd.), 905-272-4040, Thursday and Friday from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held in Sts. Martha and Mary Church, 1870 Burhamthorpe Rd. East, Mississauga, on Saturday, April 1st, 2006 at 10: 00 a.m. Entombment at Glen Oaks Memorial Gardens, 3164 Ninth Line, Oakville. Beloved husband for 58 years of Nan ROSS (née BARLOW.) Dear father of Alan ROSS, Anne WATSON (Gary), Sandy GELINAS (Mike), Glen Barlow ROSS (Michele), and Leona Ross ALEXANDER (Ron.) Loving grandfather of honorary pall bearers, Laurie RISTMAE (Robert,) Anissa VYSE (Chris,) Michael WATSON of Calgary, Michael Glen GELINAS, Tanis DEZIEL, David ROSS, Jesse GELINAS, Glenalan ROSS, great-grandfather of Jacob and Gunnar LAMONT- VYSE, Christopher and Xander RISTMAE. All of his grandchildren were very special to him. Nieces and nephews, Gail CROOK, Elizabeth ALLAN, Jim ALLAN (Sally), Marion MacMILLAN of Calgary, Jack MUNDY of British Columbia, cousins in London, and nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law in Scotland. Predeceased by his sisters, Maisie ALLAN and Elizabeth MUNDY. David was born in Glasgow, Scotland June 21, 1922, to the late John and Elizabeth ROSS. He emigrated to Canada in 1953 and retired from the Excello Corporation in 1985. Cremation has taken place. In keeping with his wishes, no visitation or services will be held. A gathering for family and Friends to celebrate Davis's life will be held on Saturday, November 18th from 2: 00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Watson residence 3986 Malpass Road, London (Lambeth). David was a loving, gentle husband, father and grandfather, totally dedicated to his wife and family.
