ATCHESON,
Jeffrey
Alexander
(January 1, 1941-March 18, 2006)
Professional football player, wrestler, actor, poet, lumberjack
and nurturer, our beloved Jeffrey died suddenly at home, in Guelph,
in his 66th year. Jeff grew up in Toronto, earned a B.A. at the
University of Nebraska and a M.A. at Cornell University in English
and Drama, on an athletic scholarship. After University, Jeff
played football with the Canadian Football League in Toronto,
Hamilton and Calgary where his love of the mountains and the
wilderness kept him for several more years building the Kananaskis
Trail System in Canmore, Alberta. A prolific writer and raconteur,
Jeff's uninhibited comic take on life brought laughter and joy
to every get together. In 1988, Jeff returned to Guelph to care
for his ailing father, Kenneth, until his death in 1993 and then
for his beloved mother, Florence, until her death six weeks ago,
in her 96th year. He is lovingly remembered by his many Friends
and family: sisters Barbara (Peter
GLASS) and Gayle
ROBINSON,
nieces Kim (Steve
BUCEK,)
Tracey
MOORE (Jim
ARNOTT) and Leslie
(Brian McMANUS,) and their children for his compassion, his humour
and his indomitable spirit. Friends will be received at the Wall-Custance
Funeral Home and Chapel, 206 Norfolk Street, Guelph, Thursday (7-9 p.m.).
A service to celebrate Jeff's life will be held, in the funeral
home chapel, Friday, March 24, 2006, at 2: 00 p.m. Memorial contributions
to the Guelph Wish Fund For Children, c/o 107 Glenburnie, Guelph
N1E 4C9 would be appreciated. (Wall-Custance 519-822-0051; www.wallcustance.com)
