ANTAYA, Stacey Leigh (February 14, 1979-April 5, 2002)
In Loving Memory of Stacey Leigh
A daughter is such a precious gift
To Love, to hold, to treasure
A very special miracle Who gives us so much pleasure.
But when that gift is taken
And our hearts are cold and torn
Amid this grief and sorrow
We're so glad that you were born,
For you left a precious legacy
Even though were far apart
The love you left behind Will stay forever in our hearts.
Deeply missed and loved forever Dad, Mom and Sister Breanne

ROWE, Percy
By Peter ROWE, Page A18
Travel writer, author. Born January 15, 1922, in London, England. Died March 7, in Mississauga, Ontario, of pneumonia, aged 84.
Percy ROWE was born in the chaotic years following the First World War, spent his adolescence and his 20s in the Depression and the Second World War, then re-established himself in the new world, contributing to and participating in the peace and prosperity of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s.
He was born a twin in a London, England working-class home. His twin brother did not survive childbirth. Percy grew up in the Thameside village of Egham, famed for its propinquity to where the Magna Carta was signed. As a boy he worked as a caddie at one of England's poshest golf courses, carrying clubs for toffs of the era. It turned him off the game; he never played a day in his life, buying into Mark Twain's contention that it was "a good walk, spoiled."
Although his father was a frequently unemployed stoker/fishmonger/fire warden/bookie, ROWE was able to get a scholarship to go to the private Strode School. He worked for a short while as an accountant (and would later put it to use, claiming to never spend more than two hours a year doing his taxes). Fascinated with flight, he volunteered for the Royal Air Force, becoming a lieutenant and navigator on the cargo planes of the war, the Dakotas. He spent most of the war towing gliders full of paratroopers, spies and returning resistance fighters into France and Germany.
His first trip overseas was to Canada, where he was part of the Commonwealth Air Training Program. He met Muriel ANTILL on a date at the Winnipeg Canoe Club. Returning to England, he flew as part of the Normandy invasion and the subsequent liberation of the Netherlands. Following victory, Muriel sailed on the first peacetime sailing of the Queen Mary, and they were married on September 15, 1945. Photos of the wedding show squadrons of Spitfires in the skies behind them, celebrating the end of the war.
The young couple returned to Canada and, in 1946, Percy began his writing career at the Winnipeg Tribune, covering local politics, the police beat and the Winnipeg flood of 1950. A fan of neither London's smoggy poverty nor Winnipeg's frigid winters, Percy moved in 1953 to the city he soon grew to love: Toronto. Working his way up to assistant managing editor of the Telegram, he was part of the city's explosion in the early 1960s, scooping the Toronto Star with stories about lake swims, the Boyd Gang and Liz Taylor visits.
He got what he considered to be a dream assignment in 1968: travel editor of the Tely, and, after it folded, of the Toronto Sun. As he says, in his completed (unpublished) memoirs, Man About the World: "It was the world's best job. I was there during perhaps the heyday of 20th century travel, travelling up to 200,000 miles a year to the remotest corners of the world -- for free!"
Throughout the 1970s and 1980s he would turn out three or four stories a week, edit the Sun's travel sections and write a restaurant review. He also published seven books: a best-selling guidebook to Canada, two books about wine, and guidebooks to Toronto, Montreal, Niagara Falls and New Delhi. His best book, The Great Atlantic Air Race, became a documentary shown on History Television the night he died. He wrote to the end (his last article was published earlier this year) and at 83, he wrote his first play (about a hooker and a dot-com millionaire), hoping to see it produced at the Toronto Fringe Festival.
Percy was an active member of the Lifelong Learning Academy at the University of Toronto, he spoke French, Spanish, Italian and Russian, was a passionate gardener, a keen canoeist and an oil painter. Perhaps most important of all to him was his involvement in the lives of his five children and nine grandchildren.
Peter ROWE is Percy's son.

Man, 60, dies in early morning collision
By Patrick MALONEY, Free Press Reporter, Tues., January 17, 2006
A Londoner was killed and a veteran trucker badly shaken yesterday in an early-morning crash in Thames Centre that police are investigating.
Joe ANTONIO, 60, was heading to work in Dorchester shortly before 6 a.m. yesterday when his van broadsided a tractor-trailer reversing into a driveway along Westchester Bourne, Middlesex Ontario Provincial Police said. ANTONIO, whose vehicle was trapped under the rig, died at the scene.
"He's a very good brother and a very good father," Adelina ANTONIO said of her brother, who had a 21-year-old stepson and two other children, ages 13 and 10. "We are trying to cope with the loss because it was so sudden."
Skip LACHARITY, the veteran trucker who was backing his tractor-trailer onto his Dorchester-area property, was unhurt in the crash but obviously upset by the tragedy in the pre-dawn darkness.
"I'm not so sure it's sunk in yet," said LACHARITY, 54, who had been delivering flowers to grocers in London and Sarnia. "It was over in a heartbeat. It was a tragic thing."
The 16-metre-long trailer was outfitted with reflective stripes and marker lights, Const. Doug GRAHAM said. It was dark at the time of the collision and investigators were still piecing together how it happened, he added.
ANTONIO had worked at the same Dorchester factory for about 25 years, his sister said, and often pledged to retire within four years.
He moved to Canada from the Philippines in the mid-1970s, she said.
