ABNEY)
Kate was born October 15, 1915 near Napton, Missouri and died
December 1, 2006 in Toronto, Ontario. Both sides of her family
had come to America in the late 1600's and the family spirit
for adventure was one Kate embodied throughout her life. She

After college, Kate taught English and music in several small
towns in Missouri during the late thirties and early forties.
In 1942, Kate married Otho
PENCE who was in the U.S. Army Air
Corps and was killed in action in 1943. After his death, Kate
joined the American Red Cross and was sent to India. In 1944,
she met Jim
MALCOLM, an English officer, and they married in
Brantford, Ontario in 1947. In 1950 they moved to Toronto. Kate
and Jim had four children, Douglas, Victoria, Keith and Nancy.
Kate returned to teaching in 1963. She taught kindergarten at
Daystrom Drive Public School until she retired in 1981. In retirement,
Kate pursued her hobbies of painting, playing the piano, gardening,
and travelling. Kate was past president of Ryerson's Recollections
group. In 2004, Kate self-published her memoirs based on the
Recollection's stories. She died in her apartment surrounded
by family and Friends. She is predeceased by her husbands, her
