Toronto -- The death of D.J. VERRIAN, a co-owner of Toronto-based Faces and Places, one of Canada's top talent agencies specializing in sending background extras and actors out on commercials, has stunned the local entertainment industry.
Mr. VERRIAN died suddenly on February 19, a year to the day after the death of his mother, Clibby, the long-time operator of Faces and Places. He was 30.
Mr. VERRIAN, who had helped care for his mother while she suffered from cancer in 2004-2005, died after suffering an reaction to drugs administered to treat a cut hand, his younger brother Derek said.
"It was tragic, accidental and unexpected," said Derek VERRIAN, a partner in Faces and Places, which has operated for 26 years. "He got stitches in his hand, took a bunch of painkillers and was heavily intoxicated. He went to bed and never woke up."
The VERRIAN brothers assumed control of their mother's operation a year ago, and aggressively built up the business. When their mother died, the agency had 350 clients and helped launch the careers of such performers as Sarah Polley and Justin Louis. Today, it boasts 750 clients, including 500 Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists members.
"We brought the agency into the future, technology-wise," said Derek VERRIAN, who intends to continue the operation. "Mom was hung up on a typewriter and never sent emails."
D.J. VERRIAN was born January 27, 1976 in Toronto. He died on February 19, 2005.

Passed away in his home in West Vancouver on December 26, 2006. Left to miss him are daughter, Nanci DONOHUE of California, daughter Sandra SANDER of West Vancouver, son James HULL of Victoria, and their mother Bonnie. He is survived by his beloved partner, Ursula VERTONE of West Vancouver. Bob was tremendously proud of his 10 grandchildren, Devon, Shayna, Shellbee, Hailey, Brayden, Kaid, Tyra, Milan, Troy and Jayme. He will be lovingly remembered by his siblings: Joyce LOW/LOWE/LOUGH, Marilyn STRADECKI and Tom HULL of Saskatchewan. Bob served the public and police community for 42 years. He proudly served the Royal Canadian Mounted Police for 25 years retiring from E Division as a Staff Sgt. Bob continued his commitment to the police community for an additional 17 years as Director of the Police Academy, Justice Institute. Bob was a founding father of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Emergency Response Team team. Not only did he change the face of policing in Canada he touched many lives in a profound way. He led by an example of excellence, was a leader, a teacher, and a force to be reckoned with. Family was foremost to Bob, and he was a loyal friend. He saw the best in everyone and every situation. Incredible sense of humour, quick wit, integrity, strength of character, compassion and dedication - these were synonymous with Bob HULL. Those who knew him will remember the many 'Hullisms' that made us all smile. The world was a better place with him in it. Bob will be greatly missed. At Bluewater Health Palliative Care on Saturday, April 15, 2006, Marjorie Ethel (FIELD) HARRIS, age 85 of Sarnia. Beloved wife of William E. HARRIS. Loving mother of George William (Dianne) HARRIS and Beth and the late Ray BETTRIDGE. Cherished grandmother of Greg (Kathy) HARRIS, Dan HARRIS, Shelley (Gord) McEWAN, Julie (Craig) HOLLAND, Stephanie BETTRIDGE and great-grandchildren Adelle HARRIS, Joshua, Adam, Noah and Zachary McEWAN, Alex, Christopher and Hannah HOLLAND, Abby, and Ava VERWEGEN. Predeceased by her brother Harry FIELD and two sisters Chris BURDETTE, and Jean BARWISE. Marjorie was a long time member of Dunlop United Church and a dedicated leader and board member of the C.G.I.T. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2006 at 1: 00 p.m. from Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia. Cremation has taken place. Family and Friends will be received at Smith Funeral Home, on Monday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday morning from 11: 00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of your choice. It is with great sadness that the family of Nick Verway announce his passing on October 18, 2006. Nick passed peacefully with his family at his side. Beloved husband of the late Marry VERWAY (2006), he is survived and will be greatly missed by his brothers and sisters Henk (Marcella) VERWEY, Jos▲▼ (Kate▲▼) VERWEIJ, Mieke (Steve) FLECK and Iet "Tracy" (Bill) STRONG. He will be forever loved and remembered by his children and close family; Garnet (Helene) VERHOOG, Rosemary (Jack) MESLEY, Karin (Steve) BLAIR, Jan (Sonja) VERWAY, Nick (Ellen) TAILOR/TAYLOR, Hélène (Dwayne) EDWARDS, Arthur VERWAY and his many close Friends and family members here and in Holland. Was welcomed into the waiting arms of Jesus on Monday, February 27, 2006. Gabriella was born at St. Joseph's Health Care Centre, London cherished newborn daughter of Jim and Margaret HARDER) VERWER of Zorra Twp. She will be sadly missed by her brothers and sisters Clasina, Andrea, Andrew, Anthony, Joseph, Michael, Elizabeth Ann, Gerard and Roserita. Cherished granddaughter of Clasina VERWER of Zorra Twp. and Katherina HARDER of Aylmer. Sadly missed by aunts and uncles and a special Uncle Joe. A Mass was celebrated for the intentions of the family with Fr. Thomas MOONEY celebrant at 11: 00 a.m. on Thursday, March 2, 2006. Her family gathered with Reverend Fr. Ross BARTLEY at the Saint Marys Cemetery on Thursday March 2, 2006 at 1.30 p.m. for interment in the family plot. In her memory donations to St. Joseph's Health Care Foundation - Neonatal Program would be appreciated and may be made by calling the L.A. Ball Funeral Chapel in Saint Marys at 284-1480.

Passed away peacefully at Sunset Manor, December 12, 2006 at the age of 82 years. Sya, predeceased by parents Willem and Jansje DEKREEK and son Arie (Andy) VERWEY, will be cherished and sadly missed by her husband of 58 years, Willem of Wasaga Beach, her sister, Adrie v/d VENDELOO and brother, Willem DEKREEK both of Holland; her children Bill and Marlene, Wasaga Beach, Marinus and Laurie, North Bay, Joyce and Ivan, Collingwood, Rick and Lynne, Thornhill, Mary-Ann and Tony, Calgary. Sya was a proud and loving Oma to Andrew, Craig, Melissa, Klaas, Laura, Ameila, Tasha and Tania, and will be missed by best friend Adrie Reitsma, Friends and staff of Sunset Manor. Passed away, with his loving family by his side, Richard William BEAUMONT, a lifelong resident of Tillsonburg, on Thursday, November 23rd, 2006 at the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital, at the age of 58 years. (Coached in the Tillsonburg Minor Hockey Association). Beloved son of Orton BEAUMONT and the former Alice BEATTIE) BEAUMONT of R.R.#5 Langton. Family minded, he had great love for his kids: Shawn (Bridget), Tillsonburg; Robert (Vicky), London Brian (Maggie Mae,) Tillsonburg; Crystal BEAUMONT of London. Survived by his siblings: Audrey ARMSTRONG, Calgary; Thomas (Barbara,) Toronto; Alex (Eleanor), Tillsonburg; Elizabeth BREEN, Tillsonburg Fred, R.R.#5 Langton; Kathy (Rick BROUGHTON,) Langton; Mary (Ross WARD), Tillsonburg; Patricia (Patty) (Goldy WINKWORTH), Langton Bill (Carol), Tillsonburg; and Bonnie BENTLEY, Calgary and nieces, nephews and cousins.
