Peacefully at home on Sunday, January 8, 2006, Doctor Howard Calvin FRIESEN of London in his 83rd year. Beloved husband of Mary (TOWNSHEND) FRIESEN. Dear brother of Leona FRIESEN, Eleanor (Art) WILSON, Colin (Muriel) FRIESEN and Douglas (Doreen) FRIESEN. Predeceased by his parents Abram and Elisa FRIESEN, sister Luetta SHARPLEY and brothers Alfred and Gordon. Cherished uncle of several nieces and nephews, especially Bill SHARPLEY. Dear brother-in-law of John (Ruth) TOWNSHEND, Betty TOWNSHEND, Robert (Pat) TOWNSHEND, Betty (Bob) FOSTER, Barbara (Gordon) ULLERICK, Peggy UTTING and Nancy LOUGHEED. Predeceased by his father and mother-in-law Bishop William and Mrs. Kathleen TOWNSHEND and sister-in-law Eleanor MONTURE and brother-in-law Bill and Jim TOWNSHEND. Howard was a graduate in medicine from University of Western Ontario. He served in the medical corps for peaceful duties in Italy. Howard practiced in the field of psychiatry in Cleveland and in Woodstock. He retired from active practice in 1978. Friends will be received at the Logan Funeral Home, 371 Dundas St. (between Waterloo and Colborne St.) on Wednesday, January 11 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at St. Paul's Cathedral, 472 Richmond St. at Queens Ave. on Thursday, January 12, 2006 at 11 a.m. with Bishop Robert TOWNSHEND officiating. With her families' love surrounding her, Elsie A. SMITH passed away at Port Perry Hospital on Tuesday, May 9, 2006. A resident of Oshawa and formerly of London. Wife of the late Gordon SMITH (1992) and companion to Ken HARDY. She will be sadly missed by her children Jeanie (Ray) ZAVITZ, Karen SMITH, and Myles SMITH. She was adored by her grandchildren Daniela SORRENTI, Julie ZAVITZ and her partner Rob BUCKBOROUGH and Lyndsay ZAVITZ. Loving sister to Jean (Stan) MacNEILL, Marion GIRARD and Leslie JEFFERY. Loved dearly by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by a sister Edith TOWNSHEND and by brothers Ken, Roy, Harold, and Lloyd JEFFERY. Peacefully at University Hospital on Monday, May 15, 2006 in his 87th year. Beloved husband and best friend of the late Dorothy BUCHNER. Loving father of Bill and his wife Elaine, John BUCHNER all of London, Anne and her husband Ken CHENEY, Joan and her husband Bill ACKEHURST, all of Barrie-Innisfil, Jane and her husband the Rev. Peter TOWNSHEND of Waterloo. Grandfather of William BUCHNER, Ken, Tim and Cynthia CHENEY, Allison ACKEHURST, and Anna, Christopher, Andrew, and David TOWNSHEND. Brother of Ross (predeceased) and his wife Marion BUCHNER of Durham, Palmer WESTGATE and his late wife Elaine of London, the late Andy and Annette BUCHNER of Fort Wayne, Indiana and predeceased by his brother-in-law Bernard and his wife Emma LOVERIDGE of Toronto. Bill graduated from Stratford Collegiate, attended the University of Western Ontario, and served in World War 2 as Forward Observation Officer, 23rd Field Regiment (S.P.) at Caen, Falaise Gap, Kapelsche Veer, the Rhine and Hochald Gap. After attending Osgoode Hall, Bill commenced the practice of law in London in 1948. He was Past President of the Middlesex Law Association, Past Chairman of the London Board of Education, Past President of the Corps of Commissionaires, Founding Director of the London Bar Admission Course, proud Commander of the Seventh Field Regiment of Wolseley Barracks London, author of "Canada Ours to Defend", caring and active member of the Church of Saint_John the Evangelist. Friends may call on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the James A. Harris Funeral Home, 220 Saint_James Street at Richmond. Died suddenly at University Hospital on Thursday, November 2nd, 2006. Beloved and loving wife of John Elliott TOWNSHEND for 60 years. Dear daughter of the late George and Miriam Fry. Loving mother of John and Rosemary TOWNSHEND, Paul and Marta TOWNSHEND, Peter and Jane TOWNSHEND, and Jennifer and Robin LYONS. One-of-a-kind and fun-loving grandmother of: Katie and Brandon LAWRENCE, Matthew and Kayte TOWNSHEND, and Jordan TOWNSHEND; Larissa, Alexander and Michael TOWNSHEND; Anna, Christopher, Andrew and David TOWNSHEND Jonathan, Gregory, and Timothy LYONS. Passed away, at the Village of Winston Park, Kitchener, on Wednesday, October 11, 2006 at the age of 96 years. Dear husband of Kathryn. Father of Barbara SYER of Toronto and Lindsey EMBERLEY and her husband Paul of Wayne, Pennsylvania. Grandfather of David EMBERLEY and Sarah BERNSTEIN. Great-grandfather of Katherine EMBERLEY, Jack EMBERLEY, Emily BERNSTEIN and Lauren BERNSTEIN. Harry was a longtime member of the Church of the Holy Saviour, Waterloo. Honoring Harry's requests cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. Passed away with his family by his side on May 20th, 2006, in his 54th year after a courageous battle with brain cancer. Kelley has taught us to laugh and live each day to its fullest.
