SHORE,
Patrice
Michelle
(October 17, 1953-march 8, 2006)
A woman with a crystal spirit and a fighter pilot's heart 'flew
west' at 11: 50 a.m. P.S.T., Wednesday, March 8, 2006, at Peace
Arch Hospital, White Rock, British Columbia. A winter storm battered
the windows. The ancients believed when a great soul leaves the
earth, the wind rages; the greater the soul, the greater the
wind to carry them away. It physically pushed her Friends off
the sidewalk ('That's Patrice going by.' they said.) Patrice
leaves to grieve many Friends, her devoted husband, Wayne Ralph,
and loving family, mother Anne
SHORE,
Surrey, brothers Mark (Lori,)
in Whitehorse Yukon, and Robert (Teresa), Coquitlam, and sister
Christine BLAGDON,
New
Westminster.
She was predeceased in 1999
by her father, Hugo. She was a loved and admired aunt to her
nieces and nephews, an inspirational godmother, and a brilliant
mentor. This lovely woman was a huge intellectual and emotional
force for good in many lives - an astonishing, unique model of
unparalleled energy, courage, honesty, generosity and thoughtfulness.
Born in Victoria, she attended Queen Elizabeth High School, Surrey,
and received her B.A. from Simon Fraser University in 1976. She
had a successful and distinguished career in real estate with
Nu-West Development, Feedham Realty, Benchmark Realty, and Bay
Realty. She also served as a director on the Fraser Valley Real
Estate Board, and Board of Trustees, Peace Arch Hospital Society.
With 20 years, firstly as a child, and later as an adult, living
in the world of lymphatic cancer, she epitomized the virtue of
positive thinking. She took comfort from the humanity of all
her health care professionals, particularly Drs Grace Park, Paul
Hoskins, Nicholas Voss and Derek Lowe. Her nursing and social
services professionals adored her, wonderful women like Daphne
Frost, Cathy Paul, Sarah Sample, Kaniza Ishmail, Lynne Charlesworth,
Mary Scott, Janie Brown, Gilly Heaps and Barbara Morningstar,
to name just a few. Also wonderful were the women of the Palliative
Care unit in her last 40 hours. She insisted that any memorial
not be a dirge orchestrated by strangers. She wanted her Friends
and family to remember how adventurous and fun her life had been,
and recall not only her virtues but also her foibles. To that
end, we will gather at 2: 00 p.m., Saturday, April 8, at Victory
